It's obviously very important for the rest of the planet not just China. China needs to lead by example.
To show that China are being responsible - (not just propaganda) - how they respect the planet and are committed to clean air, rivers and the sea and repairing the damage done by industrialization.
Equally as important - that they treat animals humanely and with respect.
This will go a long way in changing western perceptions of China and ultimately improving relationships and trust.
Much like Bernie, you can lead by example but the rest of the country still ignores you.

It comes as part of China's plan to plant at least 84,000 square kilometres (32,400 square miles) of trees by the end of the year, which is roughly equivalent to the size of Ireland. My name is The People’s Republic of China. I'm 70 years old. My house is located in Southeast Asia along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean, and I am devorced. I work as an employee for The United Nations, and I usually work 9 hours every day and 6 days in a week. I don't export revolution, but I occasionally crack down domestic terrorism. I'm in bed by 12PM, and make sure I get 6 hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of Trump’s blood and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a good communist, I wake up without any hesitation or fear in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a country who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose development at night. That is how I deal with other countries, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
