Brother I have got to tell you that I have followed your advice from the very beginning. This is June 15th and I will have ripe tomatoes by the end of this week. My tomatoes plants are over 8 feet tall and absolutely loaded with tomatoes. My potatoes are growing so big that they are actually pushing out the sides of my container's lol. Okay I do have one question is my peas supposed to be dieing off now that the hot weather has gotten here? Can I replant more peas in the fall? Gary I can honestly say that you have been a wonderful teacher you really should open up a gardening class for beginners to experts on how to manage a garden correctly. The time for people to learn how to feed themselves again without running out to the supermarket everytime you need something. We need to get back to were we can grow and preserve our foods like they did back in the day. Especially we Christian people really need to get proficient in growing our own food as in the end of days we wont be able to buy or sell anything because of the mark of the beast. The bible says that a loaf of bread will cost a man a day's wages just to buy a loaf of bread. That's not going to be a good time for the non Christian people. See we Christian folks won't have to worry as the word says that we won't go hungry and that we will even prosper during this time. This is The lord's promise to us. So don't be afraid of what is happening it's all got to happen before Jesus Christ can return to earth and finally bring an end to these evil creatures called humans.
So good to hear. And yes peas start dying when temps stay in the 80's. Ill be removing mine soon.

So I googled this video because I got those same exact seeds in the mail as part of my free seed packet. 😅
Unfortunately I just got the seeds and it’s already mid April so not sure if I want to start them this year and just wait for next year so I have time to cold stratify. But maybe I can just keep it indoors longer and not worry about fruiting this year. I already have a lot of strawberry plants.
The alpines take a long time to germinate but you could start them indoors and just put them out later. They could still produce as they grow tinier strawberries.

I started my strawberry plants from seeds from store bought berries. I just have a question. The plants are currently bearing fruit, in central Florida, what NPK do I fertilize with at this point? Those seeds took forever to germinate. After this video I now know why, I didn't stratify them. Thanks for sharing that tip with us.🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
I dont have a fertilizer recommendation. I would just go with a balance NPK water soluble. Or less nitrogen and more P and K.

Hello Gary, if your short on time for the stratification process , can you do winter sowing as a stratification process with the strawberry seeds?
You can. If you dont stratify you still get germination, it just isn't as robust.

I’ll be winter sowing some Regina alpine strawberries later on today 😄 After seeing this I may go on ahead and grow a couple 6 cells this way just to compare. I’d rather have em outside to make more space for my other starts indoors, but it may be worth it to go this route.
Good video on the theoretical growth of strawberries from seeds. Any update regarding how long it took to germinate, transplanting the seedlings, fertilization, and growth? Follow-up of what actually happened for your videos would be helpful. I would like to more than your selling fabric pots, fall & spring seeds, seed starting supplies, peppermint oil, neem oil, TRG merchandise.
So up to 28 days. I talked about them in different videos. General diluted fertilizer about 2 weeks after germination. They are grown up and in containers now. They were talked about in a Friday Rambling series.

So helpful!! We went strawberry picking today and I want to try to plant seeds from the berries we picked since I know they grow well in my area. Do I still need to stratify the seeds since I live in an area where it’s warm most of the year with a handful of frosts? Since we picked the berries today, starting the process from seed may be ill timed, they would be early even with the time of keeping them in the fridge. I wouldn’t plant them til Oct. could I simply save the seeds I dry until I’m ready to plant in time for Oct? Not sure how that works with trying from seed on berries… sorry for the loaded question
You know I dont know for sure but a cold period is probably needed for better germination but doesnt mean they wouldnt otherwise.

I’m confused. You make an early point to use media that is fluffy and then you triple pack it. I’ve been growing strawberries from seed for 35+ years. Packing the soil makes it difficult for the roots to penetrate the surface and establish a root system. Also, seeds should be preconditioned by freezing for 3 - 4 weeks before sowing. This is not considered stratification. Stratifying is chilling the media with the seeds in a refrigerator. BTW: I retired from the strawberry plant business here in Delaware several years ago. I continue to save and sell seeds of gourmet types like the ones in your demonstration, Fragaria vesca, wild strawberries also known as fraises des bois.
Well if you pack a denser starting mix you get like a brick. If you pack a fluffy peat based mix it is solid with lots of air space. All I can say is stratification works.

New gardener here. It’s September and I’m in Georgia. Can you plant without chilling now, let them go through winter outside and have th ready to fruit next Spring?
@@Ret2Play I wouldn’t advise it. Warm soil may get the seeds to germinate which may seem to be a good thing. When a frost comes the new seedlings will be killed. In addition, I don’t advise sowing outdoors. Wind, rain, etc. can displace the seeds since they need to be surface sowed. I have not heard of anyone having success sowing outdoors. I tried it several times and was disappointed each time. I have the intention to winter sow some seeds in pots or gallon milk jugs during winter (like late November). The seeds then will be exposed to natural conditioning of freezing temps and will sprout when the soil warms. This more natural approach may work. Better yet, sow indoors at this time and transplant out after the last frost. You will have a more predictable crop earlier than if sown outdoors. Keep in mind, strawberries take about 4 months from sowing to first fruit. Temperature and day length can affect this but it is a good rule of thumb.
Did you stratifly them?
Hi Gary. Thanks for the tips.I did this but after germination my seedling are turning yellow? Too much water? Too much light? I have 2 -5500 lume shop lights 2.5 inches above seed trays.
Well take notes and adjust. Raise light to 4 inches and you should let the tops of the seed mix dry to a light brown before watering. If its that early, it is not a nitrogen issue.

I just planted mine. The nights are still cool to cold here. Should I let them grow in the greenhouse instead? To stratify them and let them germinate with the cool nights, sun during the day and protected from the wind? Or is it better to grow them inside?
Either one really. They still germinate without stratification. I like indoors as I think the controlled conditions help best overall for speed of germination

Hi Gary going to attempt this first time as I went and bought the seed pack.. I am gardening in the UK London, where winter is milder than other parts.. 9B I think we are.. .. However did I miss the boat, as you mentioned we should have had 4-6 weeks stratification in the fridze🤔🤔 I have hoop house over one of my raised beds where I am trying to over winter some plants.. Would that be a place to keep my sown seed trays where they remain colder than in the house? Or should I sow in milk jugs and leave them out in open?? What would be the best route pls?
Love connecting with gardeners around the globe. Stratification is not a must it just really helps. There is a good chance you seed pack got shipped around and sat in the cold. Anyway... start some and then chill some. I think the hoop house would be perfect for winter sowing.

Hi, I want to say thank you for sharing how to grow strawberries from seed, not too many are showing exactly how this is done. I just got my seeds now 8/20/2022 and I am wondering is it too late for me to grow inside and transfer outside into the bed? Please let me know. Thank you.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN I am sorry, Albuquerque, NM (7B).
Should they be planted after the last frost? Or can they be planted out before that?
The occasional light frost is okay. They can take a frost and manage in temperatures below freezing. But new plants going out should go out in like April one here in Maryland.

What about for tropical zones is it the same with stratification or are the ones we use (since ours are also annuals) different? TY

Containers, raised beds
I have videos on planting strawberries. The same way. Just make sure you acclimate your indoor plants to the outdoors, slowly, over weeks time. Best to plant when frost wont show up. Cold is okay.

Can the seedlings stay in the same starting pot for all 14 to 16 weeks?
It depends on how large the containers are and how fast the grow. The small cells in the video are probably too small. I sell larger ones at my store and they can hold strawberries the whole time. Or you can pot them up.

I dont know but 50% or less isn't far off the mark. But it really is about germination speed. Those that dont germinate in 2-3 weeks sometimes germinate at 5 weeks.
