  • A character analysis concerning my Nathan Prescott theory in Life is Strange. This clip looks at Nathan’s mental health, characteristics and even his bedroom. There are layers of behavioural psychology attributable to these facets of his character along with underlying psychological reasons for her temperamental attitude and antagonism throughout the game that propel much of the story forward.

I sympathise with him so much, he's a great representation of mental illness and while he is guilty of his actions you must take into consideration that other factors went into his actions and that he was a kid who's vulnerability was used against him. He probably saw Jeffershit as a father figure given how utterly crappy his actual dad is and Jeffershit used it against him and manipulated him.
I'm not excusing Nathan but I cannot look at this in a black and white manner where Nathan is the bad guy. Because the mentally ill and the emotionally vulnerable are manipulated everyday and it's not their fault that they are victims of other people and even their brain. Nathan's dad is clearly an abusive dick head whether it be emotionally or physically and that definitely contributed to his mental state. It wasn't Nathan's fault that Jefferson twisted Nathan's admiration for him and made him a pawn in his sick scheme. But what is Nathan's fault is the girls he hurt and that cant be excused.
I kinda wish in the end, instead of him being killed off they cut to a scene with him getting help. whether it be in prison or in care idk. it sucks that he was killed off.

Why can I relate so much to Nathan? Except for me being way less aggressive than him

There's a lot of development ish with his character in life is strange before the storm who I see as the basic rich kid Who has a legacy and a name that their parents in this case his father wants him to live up to and regardless of how he feels socially it's all about what his father wants and the Prescott name and I feel that that type of control his father is trying to have over him is where his mental health began to deteriorate and there is an option when you're at the hospital to listen to a conversation well there are two the first one is during the play when you see his father saying he has to be involved in this play and live up to the Prescott name and not be weak even though he is afraid everyone will laugh at him and all that pressure gets to him and in another episode the third one I think it is when you're in the hospital there is a final room at the back where you can hear a conversation between a doctor and Nathan's father about Nathan's mental health issues which is in a sense designed to help but the way his father went about it wasn't about helping him it was about controlling him to fall in line and as we see in life is strange the main game when he says in the bathroom he's sick of people trying to control him just years of being told how to be he wasn't given the opportunity to discover his own self and all he had was anger and rebellion so when Chloe was blackmailing him for cash that was the final straw it weren't about being exposed drugging her but more about the control that he feel is being placed and taken away from him Which came to its conclusion when he shot her I mean yes there was the shady stuff with the vortex club but Nathan has an issue with people trying to control him and the more people do the more antisocial his actions become but by the end of the game when he sends that message to Max we see who he really is he didn't want to hurt anybody but he was manipulated by Jefferson to think he could feel free and have choices outside of everybody else's self interest which is why he went along with it and probably another reason for his emotional troubles and another point I could use for references when he shoots Chloe he panics and tries to wake her up and I think he's the sort of person that will take things too far but won't understand the ramifications until he's done it he walked in there with a gun to scare Chloe but took things too far when he shot her and that again is the biggest moment for his character because to an extent he tries to see if she's still ok and wake her up almost like he doesn't know what he's doing or understand the consequences of his actions until he's done the action if that makes sense what do you think and I have to say your videos are awesome you really get into the psychology of these characters and I think it's pretty cool I hope I haven't said anything you've said in the video but I only say that because I'm like one minute into it and I just wanted to say this before I forgot

Haha, no worries I think there's some good observations there. I haven't played BtS yet, but I figured it would give a lot of background into some of these characters... I'm particularly interested to see Prescott Senior, because he hardly features in the first game and is more like someone in the background who's influenced his sons behaviours. I agree that Nathan's health issue stems from not only an actual mental problem, but the fact his father is content to ignore these problems and control his decisions and trajectories through life, which makes them worse and gives him a sense of powerlessness.

I wonder what his relationship with Sean from LIS2 would have been like since he wasn’t above attacking Max or Warren

Nathan sure fooled me with his "Puss in Boots poor-kitty eyes" in Before the Storm. 😂

I'm 90% sure Nathan would have eventually shot up Blackwell if he wasn't tried for murder in the first place
