- Using Microsoft software can be quite an adventure. It's especially fun when your previously activated copy of Windows or Office decides to de-activate itself!
Sometimes, the usual official routes of re-activation are useful. Other times, not so much... Isn't there a way to re-activate your legal copy of Windows EASILY?!

I never thought that an activation could be done in 30 seconds! Now I only have one doubt. Should I get OEM keys or retail? I was also wondering what place you would recommend.
The safe option will always be retail. At least with all my years getting keys. BNH-software is where you will have the least problems. OEM keys are usually very problematic in most cases.

It's good that you say it. They have long wanted to pass off OEM keys as better than retail keys. This is not true, I can confirm that retail stores are the best option.

Only changing the motherboard does this since the key is stored there
@@iDeparture sometimes the key could still work even if you swap out all components one at a time including the motherboard if it can pick up any of the same hardware signature being transferred.

Also its ok to not activate it. I have used not activated windows 10 on computers for years, everything works except for some appearance customization and there will be a persistent activate windows message on the edge of the screen.

A Windows license is tied to your MB serial number. A MoBO change is the only hardware change that affects that license. With a new Win install, it might take a few days to re-activate, but it will if the MB is the same. You do get one or two migrations to a new MoBo with the retail license. They even have a changed hardware app in activation that let me activate Windows 11 on a new MB with my old license. I have a Win 7 (or XP?) license that I am still using on a new machine I built last year. I think that makes 4 MB's for that license, though the first two probably were not counted, as they used a key.
@@RalphUnger That is true! A non-Pirated Windows needs to re ties License and Hardware back, whenever you upgrade or replace a CPU or Motherboard. Memory upgrade, replacement or downgrade, HDD (if cloning) no need to
@@FelixLantiguaCamacho Only a motherboard change will trigger a permanent rejection of the license. MS has a command you can run that forces a active or not check, but it only sometimes works. Waiting a day or two always works if you have an active internet connection.
If it does run the scrip and just active it again, and it only would if you got a new Motherboard, keys is stored there
I purchased a Legit copy of Windows 10 OEM System build and after using it for 2 years I did a reformat no hardware change,and then it wouldn't active I try the automated phone crap that didn't work,then I got to talk to an agent and he was East Indian and kept saying of no so sorry sir key not Vindows 10 key it's Vindows 7 key and all I can say is the prick didn't do a dam thing for me.
The sticker said as plain as day Windows 10 not Vindows 7 that idiot kept trying to convince me it was,that day I felt the old commercial where I think it was AT&T that used to say reach out and touch someone,I was so made because I was flat broke at the time and I wishing it was the future that day where you can reach throw the phones and choke someone,I said to the guy this is BS that I can't even send in a picture of my key so you can see it is a Windows 10 key.

Being an Indian myself, we really don't care about what piracy is... Its either simple ways from the manufacturer of any product, or we instantly resort to "side" ways of getting the same thing done WITHOUT the manufacturer...
That's why most of the products made by Indian companies, are bare minimum, reliable, and simple... Because they know if they try to pull any complicated stuff, we are just gonna resort to other ones, which are more simpler...

You forget to mention one thing. They don't care if you use Windows so long as it will not involve businesses where you profit using their product. If it's a small printing shop, they won't care. If it's a small internet cafe, they won't bother. But if it's already a chain of internet cafes, believe me, they will go for you.

i wonder how many people actually looked at the script carefully before running it with full Admin rights on their PC. Just taking someones word for it is never a good idea.

@@ScottiesTech I don't need a fucking script to activate windows. If you don't have any hardware glitch and your PC hardware is perfectly updated to meet all the requirements of windows 10 PC or windows 11, after you check with PC health software, just ensure that your licensed copy of windows was linked to the Hotmail account. After that even if you reinstall a clean copy of windows of same version it will automatically get activated online. No script is required.

That's like saying "i wonder how many people read the terms of use or terms of service for insert whatever here" very few people. This scripts been around for ages other programmers that DO know would've found something and this would cease to exist once that caught on. most people don't know how to read code which you know

It's also the reason why a license from W7 W8 W8.1 W10 and W11 are the same thing. And indeed i always used MS support after a hardware change to reactivate, but this script saves me some time. And if enough people diy the reactivations when it breaks it saves them money because then they need to hire less Vikram's at the support desk.

I can flash over the exact same Firmware and Windows will deactivate.
I've flash thousands of PCs and Laptops at work with OEM Windows installs and this has never happened but when it came to my personal PC, it gets buggered.

If anyone is interested, it's a Gigabyte Z690 Gaming DDR 4 motherboard. I know this has happened to at least one other person on reddit with a different motherboard.

the curse of dave plummer strikes again. i just repaired a failing industrial pc on a factory machine. windows xp sp2 non-oem and updating breaks the servo control board drivers... imagine hand cracking xp with no network and no scripts in 2024 because a hard drive serial changed. when will the suffering end? seriously
Never buy Gigabyte Mobo, always try to buy ASUS or MSI or ASROCK MOBO. Gigabyte sucks and that is because they earned enough money to keep up their quality and don't need it anymore.
@@dipankarpal8054🤣 people said I had an MSI bias, and i had a bad experiences with ASUS so i gave Gigabyte a chance....I can endorse MSI as they mostly did not overvolt the Intel processors. I guess ASRock get the next chance.

I worked at charity work place that refurbished IT equipment for shipping to Africa for schools ect. We had an agreement with MS and we put Windows on them perfectly legally. I don't know the ins and outs of the agreement but no money changed hands. This was some years ago.

Most off lease refurbished PCs from corporate environments are already linked to Microsoft via their motherboard serials, so loading Microsoft OS, especially say Windows 10 Pro is a moot point and a non-issue.

Went to the Mac environment back in 2010 after 15 years of the MS circus. Haven’t looked back since - the Apple eco system just lets me do my job.
So why are you here? Windows isn’t a circus, not to those that know what they’re doing anyhow.
Some still *need* at least one Windows machine running to do their job (often with an older Windows version, maybe as a virtual machine - where activation problems are as annoying as they are on real hardware). I'm glad I stumbled upon this video, as I currently do have the task of getting a Windows 8 installation activated to run some old software that doesn't run on Win10 and 11. The Apple ecosystem is nice, but not suitable for anyone (I'm not talking about prices, just the technical side).
That's nice of you to say, but a lot of device-specific software doesn't run on the Mac. The business world and much of government enterprise systems run on MS platforms.

For command processing in PowerShell in Windows 11 it means a Microsoft it's like you paid for a lifetime license and it's done unlocking your Windows 11
Windows activation is locked to the computer's motherboard, when you use a Microsoft account you can see the Windows license and its status. You can download the USB installation media from Microsoft's website if the hard drive is broken and the installation of Windows 10 or later is automatically activated on the same PC. I've done the same less than ten times when the hard drive was broken or messed up and at the same time I'm checking if the windows installation is still visible in my Microsoft account. The worst problem is when the motherboard is broken or the motherboard is already broken when it is a new part. In the Windows XP PC, the motherboard broke and Microsoft agreed to reactivate the OEM license in the phone. I found a completely identical refurbished motherboard, but the activation detects that it is not the same motherboard.
My 10 Pro licence says Permanent. Great vid as I have zero idea that MS could deactivate a licence.

MAS is pure genius. It has more or less defeated microsoft with it's own weapons. No more crippled kms #beep!# or "funny" cheap keys from overseas ( that are not as legal as you might think they are ... )
Yeah, those "buy a cheap key" are usually NOT legal. That's why they tend to disappear after a short time.

Thanks for this. I've swapped my hardware enough times to deactivate my Windows key years ago. I never felt compelled to give them more money to reactivate, especially because upgrading to Windows 11 will require me to reformat my hard drive, or replace it. This solution worked for me. Cheers.

Windows licensing is based on the motherboard hardware ID. If you swap out the motherboard or plug in the hard drive in another computer - that would trigger activation.
Yep! I've used MAS scripts for some time, also great to activate Windows I am running in VM's or just testing on hardware.

I activated one machine over the phone 4 years ago, allowing me to use a single license on both a local computer without internet access and another computer that's always connected. 😅
I;m happy I don't have any of these problems. I switched to Linux 15 years ago and haven't looked back.

No driver for 5Ghz Wifi + Bluetooth.

I hope Microsoft doesn’t yeet your video. I can’t confirm nor deny that I’ve been using this successfully for years, and it stays activated even after formatting your drives, as long as the hardware stays the same and you choose the same edition of Windows.
Tip: The IoT Enterprise LTSC versions have a lot less bloat if you want the cleanest, official Windows for personal use. While normal Windows 10 will be End-of-Life in 2025, the IoT Enterprise LTSC version is supported until 2032. Also, 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC does not have the hardware/security requirements of normal 11, so all those older laptops and desktops won’t become huge e-waste! I know the requirements could be bypassed with tools like Ventoy or Rufus, but I heard they are working to patch that.
Tip 2: Just try Linux.

I recently did a major hardware upgrade, activation failed. But I used the activation troubleshoot functionality, which revalidates your key on the new hardware and it worked.
And no your treatment starts as who is treated as lifetime key of Windows 11 is not legal was illegal because it is programmers who were paid to put it on the Microsoft site
And at the same time you say that there was a word processor for PowerShell in Windows 11 to enable it there is someone who paid for the command processing either there on Microsoft
Thanks for the tip! An older computer build I have died during a severe brownout. I figured that it was time to upgrade from the fourth generation i7 to something newer. New motherboard, AMD Ryzen 5 - 5500 and RAM. I am expecting that it won't activate windows for me since a major amount of hardware was changed. I looked on my Microsoft account, this computer was not listed. It had Win10 Pro running. In fact, I have two more Windows based computers that aren't shown in my MS account, even though I've activated them.
Anyway, looking at the website the script originates from, is it correct that all this really does is use a generic product key for activation? If so, why couldn't I just use that generic key shown and register the product normally?
FWIW, I have never had an issue upgrading any of our computers to SSDs from HDD and keeping the activation valid. Of course, in each case the HDD hadn't completely failed, and I used my licensed copy of Acronis (came with external HDD/SSD tray) to duplicate the drive.
Just install a windows insider version and you are good to go

You should legally be able to install whatever software/OS you want on your PC especially if you paid for the computer with the understanding that it would come with a particular OS pre-installed & activated.

Interesting and useful info for sure! Never had this happen to me but then again, to my best knowledge, only motherboard replacement is likely to cause this with Windows 7 & up. If Windows was activated before, future Windows reinstalls should automatically reactivate digitally once you are connected to the Internet. If you bought a used OEM machine, the only exception I have seen is if they were used at a company that had a Windows Activation Server or they were using volume licensing.
So if i have working OEM motherboard, it should have the code included ?
Gonna have to try this out, couse i do have some oldies just waiting for activation.
