    Certainly the Taurus TS 9 is the most controversial weapon here in Brazil, due to the belief that a product is only good if it is well accepted in the USA. However, we can see that in the production and production optics categories of ipsc Brasil, the TS9 is always in the first place. placements coming in front of many glock, sig Sauer and Beretta, it is worth remembering that in Brazil we upgrade the ts9 by installing 1 mm fiber optic sight mass and firing pin polishing

    Uso ela nas minhas instruções e hoje minha TS-9 está com um pouco mais de 18mil disparos..
    E zero problemas 🙌

    I just bought a Taurus TS9 (made in Brazil, imported by Taurus Georgia, USA) with the Wilhelm Bubits mechanical design, 4" compact barrel, full size 17rd capacity, similar in dimensions to the Glock 45 9mm, two 17rd 9mm mags, very good trigger, excellent grip texture, reduced barrel tilt due to rearward barrel-to-slide lockup for better feeding, 4 different back straps, uses affordable easy to find Taurus TH9 17rd mags, fully ambidextrous mag release and slide release, unusual foreign manual safety deleted in US model, metal 3 dot sights, tactile loaded chamber indicator, 3 slot accessory rail, no optics cut, tallest extractor claw I have ever seen, perfect extractor tension, great grip feel, very low bore axis, deep trigger guard undercut, easy unique take down, no “Glock gap” between slide/frame or slide end cap, dual captured recoil spring, passed a 20,000rd torture test and was adopted as a Philippines service pistol. Limited release in US from a government contract overrun. Bought the only one in my area. $399 new. Outstanding value and high quality throughout. The mag’s top round points at the chamber due to the reduced barrel tilt (although not quite as good as a Beretta rotating barrel system). The smooth feeding geometry and controlled extraction/ejection means this design has reliability advantages. Probably Taurus' best pistol, but not generally available. Buy one if you get the chance. TH9/TS9 17rd mags are in stock online both at the Taurus website (with the same SKU#) and other online venders.
    You are wrong about TH9 mags not fitting and being too short. The only TH9 you reviewed is the Compact version. My Taurus TH9 17rd mags from MidwayUSA came in (SKU: 358-0009-01) and they fit and feed perfectly in my Taurus TS9, are reasonably priced (I went with Midway out of familiarity but have seen them for less elsewhere), are made in Italy by Mec-Gar (considered the best), are identical to the two mags that shipped with my new TS9, and are made with snag-free seamless tube construction. This is good news because TS9 pistols are new to the US market and hard to find, but compatible 17rd TH9 mags have been generally available online for several years.

    I have had a G3 first years, and it’s in my rotation in the winter. One of my favorite guns! I bought the TS9 only cuz it was a Taurus, and I was curious. I love it, but it’s a little too big to carry. Reliable, and I am still using up my steel ammo from Covid era. Both are awesome. To actually carry, G3 is more polished and designed to be carried daily. Summer- G3c!

    Firstly, congratulations on the video.
    I've had a Ts9 for 3 years, I'm really in love with the gun, I believe it's the best gun from the Taurus brand currently, in championships and range shooting, shooters are having better results with the Ts9. I know some people who changed their gun like Glock Gen5, Sig sauer, Beretta for Ts9.

    Watched this review again .. after doing some research on the TS9 .. seems like a Duty pistol.. built for Law Enforcement and Military use .. 4 in h Barrel 17 rd capacity .. heavy.. well built.. I read of 20,000 round tests with no cleaning , just a dunk in a bucket of water to cool it off .., size wise reminds of a Beretta APX-1 fullsize and similar to my AHSS PXS -9 ( which is amazing)
    Again I appreciate your review of this pistol ..

  • @JD-tn5lz
    @JD-tn5lz Před 6 měsíci +3

    Good video.
    As for your comment regarding "pull-through" technique and triggers vs "stage" triggers.
    One of the important reasons (another one is perception of safety/liability) why duty guns traditionally "pull-through" style instead of "stage" is because that's how most people shoot a handgun under real stress.
    Hence the Glock trigger, HK LEM, original M&P, etc.
    Light and crisp short reset triggers? Certainly more enjoyable and certainly gtg, but a $2000 handgun usually doesn't do any more for it's user in a real life "contest" than a $500 pistol.
    Good video. Interesting firearm, easy pass for me, but I can certainly see it's charm for some.

      I agree with your assessment that when the dreadful need arises that you use a firearm to protect yourself the purchase price of the firearm used is not going to make any significant difference unless it is taken into evidence and never returned regardless of legal exoneration of any wrong doing. Frequent training and proper maintenance of the firearm are what will make all the difference when it is all said and done.
      It is not like the person who you sent to the afterlife for their violent trespass is saying damn don’t that beat all my criminal career was ended by a $250.00 Taurus, why couldn't I have been taken out by a $4k John Wick model 2011? The fact of the matter is your budget pistol did what it was supposed to when it was supposed to and you lived to tell the tale because you trained with and maintained that firearm often.

    I've owned one of these for about 2 years now, so I'll share some of my observations:
    1 - Never had a malfunction with factory ammo.
    2 - If you're shooting reloads try to keep the OAL under 29mm as the freebore on these guns is tighter than usual.
    3 - The coating on the barrel and the slide will wear out pretty fast (mine started to show wear after 1000 shots or so).
    4 - The slide stop is not at a very good place so if you have bigger hands like I do you will activate it by mistake with your thumb even with the larger backstrap.
    5 - The sights are not very good for precision. I replaced mine pretty soon.

Overall, mine shoots well. The limitation is definitely the shooter in my case. I really hope the 17 round TH9 magazines that I ordered work. I wear XL sized gloves and never had slide bite with my G3c in 500+ rounds. But I may not grip always grip on any handgun as high as I can and should all the time when draining from a holster quickly. I do have the same issue with the trigger on the G3 series that Chris from Honest Outlaw mentioned in his review this year or the G3 Tactical. The G3 series have long travel resulting in trigger breaking far back. Being right handed I pull the first 4 or so shots low and left until I relearn the precise trigger pull required. Someone handed me their S&W Shield Plus to try at the start of range session. All 5 shots were one the center of the target. Next I pulled the first 4 or so shots with my G3c. Then I finished with all the shots from my Canik Rival on the center of the target. Now that I know what triggers work best for me I don't want to buy anther more like the G3 series that don't. I considered replacing the G3c with a Canik MC9 but I decided after seeing all the issues reported in the Canik Reddit group to just hold off until Canik improves their quality control on newly released firearms. Their new Rival-S also has had many owners report over insertion issue magazine causing the slide to fail to go forward.

    • @GBGuns

      What are the MC9 issues? We own two and aside from them needing to be oiled they run fine. Two of our mags have followers that bind sometimes.

    • @JD-tn5lz
      @JD-tn5lz Před 6 měsíci +1

      Glove size does not usually translate well into grip size.
      My gloves are always either XL or XXL. I work with my hands and I lift. My hands are "beefy" so more material is required to cover them. Hence, very large gloves.
      Those same hands require medium to medium-large handgun grips/backstraps. My grip radius is smaller because my hands possess more muscle than most, yours may also.
      I shoot M&P and HK better than most of my other firearms simply because of the grip customization and length between grip and trigger.
      Some firearms are just the "right" size and that usually contributes more to effective shooting than a fine trigger job from a custom smith.
      Also try guns on for size...AT THE RANGE, not just the gun counter. If it doesn't fit under recoil, don't buy it. If you bought it already and have to throw out fundamental mechanics to make it work, sell the gun and find one where you don't have to damage your fundamentals.

    I think Taurus has been steadily improving their line. I bought a PT 111 Millennium when they first hit the market, and it cost only about 200 bucks. A lot better gun than a High Point or SCCY. I liked it, shot it well enough, and was going to carry it. THEN, the magazine release spring/rod FELL OUT of the gun, onto the ground...at the range. If that were to happen in a self- defense scenario- well, it could cost me my life... a stupid design flaw. I sent it back, and Taurus fixed it- but it is currently relegated to being my desk gun. Even though it seems totally reliable now- once trust is lost in ANYTHING, from a spouse, the government, a friend, or a critically important tool like a gun- it's almost impossible to restore that trust.

    You didn’t mention that the TS9 has an extraordinarily tall extractor claw which must aid in smooth controlled feeding (along with the low-tilt Bubits barrel lockup design) and aid in reliable and consistent extraction and ejection. Might be why it passed the 20,000 rd torture test (that you didn’t mention either).

  • @killacoiler1707

    I think the TS9 borrows a good deal of the GX4 frame design cues which isn't a bad thing IMO. I think as time goes on the days of the G3 line of firearms as we know them is going to come to an end. It has had a good run for sure but Taurus has got to move on ergonomically speaking. With the TX22 and GX4 frames offering far better in the hand feel, it only seems sensible to revamp the G series to meet its newer siblings ergonomics.
    The TS9 is a testament to the notion that Taurus is making moves in designing new duty/carry sized striker fired firearms that fit into the same segment as the current G series, does this mean that the G series is going to make an exit and become an obsolete and archived design; only time will tell. I think its days are numbered because the industry is advancing at such a rate that such designs won't maintain market relevance. Heydays come and go and the G series of pistols heyday, IMO, is quickly coming to a close.

    • @JD-tn5lz
      @JD-tn5lz Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thing is, unless it's for an agency that mandates officers BYOG, Taurus will never get into the duty gun markets of the USA, Canada, and Europe. Taurus brings too much baggage and any sane officer would rebel.
      Over twenty years in I have yet to see any LEO carry Taurus. I have seen very few Springfields also, those have also only been in low-budget, low-respect BYOG agencies.
      Taurus's LE market is South America, Asia, and SW Asia. Anyone with real budgets won't touch them for LE work.

    • @rbm6184
      @rbm6184 Před 6 měsíci

      @killacoiler1707 Ummm. Not that. The TS9 or maybe noted the T series pistols have been around for long time since 2018. The G series beyond the G2c in 2018 are newer G3 in 2019 and G3c in 2020 though not to be confused with the Millennium series 2013 that is older and was discontinued even though both Millennium and G series are Model PT111. The newest TX22 in 2019 borrows from the TS9. The GX4 in 2021 is not part of the G series pistols and is of a new and different design from any of the previous pistols. I believe but am not certain that the hammer fired TH series started in 2019. The TS9 may be new in the US but it is not a new pistol so your thinking that the G series are old is flawed since you don't seem to know the dates of introduction of these pistols. There will only be a limited number of TS9s available in the US because these are over production run pistols from Brazil. @@JD-tn5lz I doubt that Taurus will ever shake the stigma that looms over the brand due to the quality control issues of its past. Even with the success of the PT111 platform and all the iterations that spawned from it and the uptick in quality they have shown in their 1911s in recent years, they still çan’t shake the ill reputation of past failures. That alone prevents general consumers from giving the brand any serious consideration never mind police or military.
      Unfortunately, I fear that Taurus will always be seen as a low cost truck or cabin gun. There will always be a need for reliable low cost firearms as there will always be those people who will need a firearm for personal or property protection that simply cannot afford the asking price of Glock, Walther, FN, H&K, and countless other more premium brands. Taurus fills this niche market's need well and seems to be comfortable hanging out in this segment.

      @@rbm6184 well seeing how education is your goal the Millennium platform is 26 years old as the release date was in 1997 and just like the Glock model 19 has several generations with each gen having some sort of upgrade so has the Millennium series pistols. In the Millennium series the PT-111 model number referenced that it was chambered in 9mm. I bought both a Millennium PT-111 (9mm) and a PT-140 (40 cal.) in 1999.
      In 2013 Taurus launched the Millennium G2 which had some upgrades to the frame such as stippling of the grip, a Glock style takedown, incorporation of the Millennium Pro DA/SA trigger as standard equipment, and adjustable 3dot sighting. I bought one of these as soon as it dropped.
      The same thing happened with the G3 it had a refined DA/SA trigger with a better reset, the slide was upgraded to accept Glock patterned sighting, and later runs offer the T.O.R.O optics cut slide.
      The G3 also brought about the first full size poly-striker pistol available for the American market since the PT-24/7 was cancelled.
      You claim the T series pistols has been around a long time but seeing how they were soft released in 2017 and went into full production for the 2018 model year, they are a meager 5 years old and unless the TS9 model goes into full production for the US market, the only T series pistols this country has is the TH series hammer fired models.
      Seeing that the TS9 was never released in America I did not have the knowledge of it and made a comment on observation of design similarities between more recent releases of models available in the US. So maybe the TX and GX borrow design cues from the TS-9. Either way, Taurus is making strides in ergonomics and feature sets that are making them desirable and competitive in the market. I also believe that the Millennium "G" series of pistols is on its final stretch for the existing platform. In my original comment I was merely trying to convey that I feel the newer Taurus models are far more ergonomic and that those design cues need to be adopted into the Millennium series of pistols as a means of refreshing it.

    Trigger grittiness can be eliminated by lightly polishing the top of the triangle-shaped projection in the trigger bar that engages the striker safety plunger. This is literally the first thing I do to ANY semi-auto pistol that I have purchased in the last 25 years, eliminating grittiness and bypassing trigger break in period in almost all cases. Explains why this went away with your test firing, but shocked you didn't know this. Don't know what you mean by pulling thru the trigger. That's how triggers work. Not sure if you mean overtravel. Your terminology is lacking. My TS9 doesn't have any discernable overtravel and has a normal trigger pull weight. Also 17rd TH9 mags that I recently ordered and received from MidwayUSA are identical to those that shipped with my new TS9 and function perfectly. They are ultra high quality seamless no-weld tube construction made in Italy for Taurus by Mec-Gar (just like the stock supplied mags). They are NOT too short as you claim. The only TH9 pistol you reviewed was the TH9C Compact with 13rd capacity mags. And yes, 13rd TH9C mags will be too short. Duh! Not too impressed with your gun knowledge gaps.

      @sammyg4806 Honesty I thought the same way about the gx4, so many youtubers touting how Taurus has come such a long way, how the gx4 is completely new. I fell for it.
      1. Would not chamber rounds reliably from day 1. 5 different types of ammo including fmj.
      2. Would not chamber at all with a fully loaded magazine. Worked ok with 8 or 9 rounds.
      3. Two failures to feed in 50 rounds. Factory ammo.
      4. Around the 80 round mark, trigger started getting harder to pull. Then it locked up, trigger couldn't be pulled. Cleared the gun and it fired another 20 rounds fine.
      5. Slide lock was more of a suggestion, would release slide just by looking at it wrong.
      6. Magazine release was super light,barely touch it, out comes the mag.
      7. Poor build quality overall in my opinion.
      Was really comfortable to shoot and very accurate,perfect size for me. I really wanted to keep it but couldn't live with the above.

      Ideally, you want to apply gripping pressure inline with the pistol barrel - from front to back.
      If you are a right-handed shooter, and your finger tips press too firmly into the left side of the pistol grip,
      you can accidentally twist a gun to the left. For left-handed shooters, it would be the opposite direction.
      The support hand can also steer a gun off target. If you are not careful, the support hand can either
      push or pull a gun off target while you are pressing the trigger.
      Poor trigger finger placement can also steer a pistol off target.
      Too little or too much trigger finger can steer a gun off target.
