Alright so you see this, imagine losing like this in the super bowl. That happened to my Saskatchewan Roughriders back during the 2009 grey cup, i watched it live on TV as a kid and i still have flashbacks to this day, at the same time we also blew a massive lead in the 4th quarter

That twelve men on the field call feels like something a veteran coach like Payton pulls off, being very situationally aware and understanding the outs you have. I think Payton was acutely aware that operating under time pressure would increase the chance that the defense gets an operational penalty.

As a Vikings fan, I have to point out that this was one year to the day after the Bills' previous Week 10 last-minute disaster.
Thank you for saying that its the dumbest penalty in football. I think out of all the benefits offenses get defenses should get the benefit of no penalty if the ball is underthrown and the receiver has to slow down.
That was ... an amazing game. And I hate to say this with my dad looking down on me, a 29 year AA man by the time he passed away, but that game drove me to drink. Then again I was doing a perfect impression of him circa mid-80's watching Notre Dame football. I never got so volcanically pissed off at the refs with zero legit reason (well probably not zero, but on the curve of 2023 officiating? Yeah, rounds to zero) or at Russell Wilson for not playing great _technical_ football but playing great _winning_ football. It was like watching Madden and the AI was bullshitting me into apoplexy. (Like oddly enough me in Superstar mode in this year's game playing as the Lions QB at Lambeau, where I think Douglas was ironically the guy batting all my third down passes in overtime until the Pack hit a field goal.)
The end to that game was fun to watch. Didn't know who was going to shoot themselves in the foot to lose the game last.
I really didn't think it could get more weird (this nfl season) after that KC game, but yet here we are.....

The most broncos thing was to intentionally lose 5 yards, then rush and miss the field goal, then get bailed out by a penalty and get to re kick, that’s just gold
4D chess by Sean Payton switching the units quickly so that Buffalo wouldn't substitute properly lol. Not really, but that's the story Perna should stick to.
I don't see this as a tough loss for the Bills given the way they played. Josh Allen has regressed back into his rookie self and into the flaws of his draft scouting report (although that Gabe Davis butterfinger-turned-pick wasn't his fault). They absolutely deserved to lose that game.

The ending of this game gives me flashbacks to the 2009 Grey Cup (Canadian football League's equivalent of the Super Bowl). This exact same scenario happened on the last play of the game. Missed field goal by Montreal, 12 men on the field for Saskatchewan, and the kicking team wins on the retry.

I remember that. I was a neutral for that game and still felt super bad for the Roughriders. They had so many chances (including a blatant PI no-call that went their way) to close out that game and never managed to do it. The players must have some PTSD from that experience.

Did....you actually watch the game? We missed 2 extra points, had 4 turnovers, and only won because of 2 lucky penalties.....
This looked like it would be a classic Broncos bad-mojo loss at the end after blowing another extra point and leaving the door open for some Josh Allen craziness, which happened on cue. But then, the new Sean Payton mojo took over and reflected the bad juju back on Buffalo in the ultimate switcheroo of pigskin fate. 12 men on the field? Awesome!

My faith in Sean Peyton is restored. He calls an under thrown ball to get pass interference, then rushes the field goal team out while Buffalo still has their 3d down squad out there hoping they screw up and have 12 men on the field during the change to a 4th down squad. Should have had the 4th down squad out during 3d down so they would just stay on the field.
That actually calling Go routes against a Blitz. If WR gets past the defender the defender will often get right behind them allowing the underthrown ball penalty. As the penalty the result of a defender screw up I have no problem with the penalty. If the defender does not try to catch up you throw long and get the Touchdown.
