- This is a speed run of Super Mario 64 done on a wii with a gamecube controller. No glitches or tool assists of any kind were used. The time starts when the player takes control of Mario and ends when you hit the final star after defeating the third bowser. Please Like and share! Now this is a REAL speedrun.
I feel that this is what the people that made the game intended when they thought of a speedrun of this game. No glitches, no save states or freeze frames, and 70 Power Stars, the intended minimum. It took a while for me to find this.
I just looked up “Super Mario 64 speed run no glitches” and this was the first result.

@@skillsergeant4885 That works. Glitching the game and still being considered as a legit speedrun seems a bit off-putting. I want a real run, one that doesn't involve manipulating the game.
@@DCul It really depends on your definition of speedrun. If you define it as simply beating the game as quickly as possible, then glitches are not only understandable, but quite respectable- a lot of them are much harder than playing the game normally. However, I do agree that glitchless is a more pure speedrun and should be considered separately.

I can't believe this video is already 10 years old.
Otherwise I couldn't understand how somebody uploaded this anyway considering all the other speedruners who improved several of the moves in the runs. But this is not necessarily the problem of this video. The real issue is that the guy started all well, but then his concentration obviously went downhill. He started to do almost more mistakes than he did things right.
Such an amazing speedrun! And it is even more satisfying after seeing the Super Mario Movie. Well done. ;)

This was my first video game that I played at 5 years old, because my dad was in long term hospital care for a spinal cord injury. They had a room in the hospital that had this game on one of those McDonald’s machine type setups and I would spend at least 4 hours a day there.

The real way to do a speedrun
i mean the purpose of a speed run is to do it the fastest which is why people glitch. Also there are multiple categories of speedruns the main one being any% and then this is glitchless
@@brettedgeworth5606 Speedrunning should never include glitches. The original point of speedruns is to beat the game as fast as you can using your skills at the game. Exploiting glitches feels like cheating in a way. They should just rename the any% speedruns to cheating the game speedruns. Glitched speedruns definitely aren't as bad as TAS though. That's literally hacking the game to get a good time.

Since mario 3d all-stars is basically a week away, I wanted to start speed-running glitch less mario 64 and sunshine, mainly because Ive never done a glitch in any mario game besides Odyssey

Can I tell you a secret about blast away the wall glitch less? If you aim the cannon just right, you’ll bounce off the corner of the wall and onto the spinning platform. After that just grab the star

Imagine you're 8 years old in the 90's and it took you weeks to beat the game, and then your cool 20 something uncle or cousin who you see only a couple times a year comes to visit and notices you have Mario 64. He tells you it's his favorite game and he's really good at it, so he bets you he can beat it in under 2 hours. Queue this.

do what, as it without glitch and get all70 star required should just be play game normally but constantly use long jump while taking shortcuts with such moves,i do think is a good idea get familiar with the levels and mario moves before try

I HATE to be that guy but immediately an invalid run. In order to be accepted to src you have to play on file 1 preferably after resetting the game...

What does TAS stand for?

The reason why some people use TAS, is because of human limitations and sometimes there's very unfair design in games. For instance, in Sega's "Revenge of shinobi", there is this harbour area, and there is this ridiculously huge gap between two platforms, and you have to perfect-double jump and it takes A LOT of retries, hence why save states are so helpful for unfair design.
At least in Mario games, there's very little unfair design.

Not so much a speed run as just quick ways to attain stars. Lots of minor mistakes you'd never see on an actual speed run.
