  • @Chileanseaweed

    When I bought this pedal, there weren't many reviews of it around. Had to cruise forums finding details about it besides the typical "this pedal is great" or "this pedal sucks" type of comments.
    I was looking for a definite solution to carrying amps and to sound the same throughout different gigs and backline amps.
    You are reassuring my purchase with your detailed review: this pedal does what it's meant to do, and it's so good at it that it's stupid. I play it directly to the FX Return of my Laney LC30, decent power amp but flobby Celestion 30 speaker (cab sim helps a lot).
    I've recorded with it directly to my interface and so far I feel it does a better job than the Positive Bias amp simulator plugin I've got.
    I've got to thank you for this review, I had completely forgotten about the parallel-series option of the FX loop, and was trying to find options to blend my input signal with the FX signal. I'll use that blend-pedal money I had in mind for a volume-pedal for the fx.
    PS: You forgot Chile. It's sold in a store called Imported Goods.
    PS2: Any marshall-type pedal you'd recommend to put in front of this beauty?

    • @MaxSoloMusic
      @MaxSoloMusic  Před 7 lety

      Buenos dias! Thanks for your feedback. Probably AMT's M-Drive will do the job. But I don't think it has a lot of gain though. There's a cool pedal from Xvive - the golden brownie. If you have a chance to try it somewhere, it may be the right one. It has a broad range of tones and a typical Marshall vibe

      Rianolf hey there. Still use it, for recording and live performances. No, I am not currently looking for a marshall-type distortion to use with it. In my current set up, I've got an EQD Arrows driving the F1 to the edge of break up (full volume on the Arrows, gain by 9 o clock on the F1). Before the Arrows, I have the Malekko Sloika mkii and the Nobels ODR-1 for gain

    • @Chileanseaweed
      @Chileanseaweed Před 5 lety

      I don't think its bad at all, I find it very usable and more than just good. Yes, we can agree that it is a fixed sound, and that you could match the F1 with a good cab simulator pedal or rack unit or plugin that would have more control and depth and quality. But on it's own, I use it straight into a PA/Interface and I'm very satisfied with it. Adding an external cab sim is only upgrading from something already good, to me.

    Great video Max. I must have a look at your vid on the AMT V1 now. I actually bought the AMT F1 last year and I must admit that I'm not using it on my pedal board at the moment as I found it had too much bass, even with the bass knob dialled all the way down. I had read that a Fender Twin had quite a scooped clean sound with lots of bass and treble, but I wasn't prepared for how much bass the AMT F1 had. I think I'd need an EQ pedal or a high-pass filter to cut the bass more. As I remember, a tube screamer helped to tighten the bottom end, but that introduced a bit of dirt.

    • @MaxSoloMusic
      @MaxSoloMusic  Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks! I'd say it sounds appropriate with that amount of low end, at least for clean sound. I was recording some stuff lately and ended up using F1 with all tone controls set to 12 o'clock. If i think of fender twin, it has an opened back. So, it needs some extra low end in the amp itself to keep things balanced. I was using F1 with AMT TrueCab FE 65 impulse, it sounded pretty authentic. Can it be that whatever you're pluging it into causes that huge bass to come out?

    • @ForViewingOnly
      @ForViewingOnly Před 7 lety

      Thanks Max. I'm using two Marshall 1x12 closed backed ported cabs and a Mesa 50/50 valve power amp. I've been using a Dumble-style clean preamp pedal as my main preamp, which gives a flat frequency response (or maybe a very subtle mid boost), so the F1 was sounding extremely bassy when I switched from the Dumble-style to the F1. I just couldn't tame the bass on the F1 enough using the bass knob. I'm sure its a great pedal, but maybe it is too much of a contrast to be used on the same pedal board as my other preamp.

    - Можно ли использовать Lead/Drive канал подключенного к F1 другого преампа от АМТ (R2, или С2 например) вместе с петлёй эффектов на F1?

    So you got some AMT SS preamps? I am really really loving my SS-20 crunch channel as you seem to be doing. Lately I just crank the gain in the crunch channel then use my guitar volume pot to control volume/gain from clean to dirty to lead, any classic rock I have been trying to play so far with my band seems to find a place in the SS-20 crunch channel so far.

    • @MaxSoloMusic

    • @Javier-qk7ms
      @Javier-qk7ms Před 7 lety

      By the way, do you have any plans on comparing real speakers and when to use which? For example I am using a Fender HotRodDeluxeiii extension cab with an ISP Stealth power amp and the SS-20. For clean crunch channel but whenever I want to play high gain rythm with the lead channel I really have to tweak the EQ with a Boss GE-7, cut a bit on the 800 hz and boost a bit on the 1.5 khz and above, makes it more usable for my taste but maybe some aducation on how to use which speaker for different kind of music genre would be great. I mean, lots of people claim the AMTs can be used live but almost never hear what speakers they use with them, other than pangea or other cab IR.

    At 09:30 you said that we can have 3 channels , to do that i have to push the switch on the F1 an then push the switch on the R2 ? Putting effects in the FX loop of the F1 means that are always processing in the R2 or there is a case where the effects are not processing in the R2 ?

    • @MaxSoloMusic
      @MaxSoloMusic  Před 5 lety

      Yeah. On its own F1 has only one channel but any additional LA2 preamp may add two more channels to the signal chain. F1's FX loop is post channel switch. Which means it affects all three channels. There's a way to have effects on R2 with F1 being dry but not the opposite. Unless you use an external loop selector instead of a built-in channel switch

      I'm not sure about what you're trying to achieve. Any of LA1 or LA2 preamps is meant to replace your amp's preamp. Going into the front of the amp and having another preamp in the FX loop makes two preamps running in series, which probably is not a good solution

    • @slash2808
      @slash2808 Před 5 lety

      Not both at the same time, I want to have the opportunity to have 3 separate preamps . Playing a F1 coupled with a O2 means i'm connected to the return . As long as you're using a clean power supply, and a line input (not the Hi-Z one) of the interface everything should be good. V1 is relatively low gain and won't pick up much noise from the power supply anyway. What happens if you connect any other preamp the same way? What happens if you connect V1 the way it is supposed to be used - into a power amp input of a guitar amp?

      @@MaxSoloMusic I just realised, the gain is coming from when i have switched to AMP mode and not CABSIM on the side....
      I am struggling to pull a proper clean tone with the V1 tho! Do you have any tips on getting a really clean tone?

    The comparison with the real Fender Twin Reverb at the end seems a little bit misleading. The video demonstrates that the F1 pedal *with specific settings* does a pretty good job of mimicking the Fender TR *with specific settings*. That's interesting, no question. But most people who use the preamp in an actual Twin Reverb have particular settings they like, a setup for the amp that hits their own personal sweet spot. The question is, can the F1 pedal sound like *that*? Obviously that's impossible for a video like this to answer: the reviewer can't set the TR up every conceivable way that other people use it, and for each one test if that sound can be reproduced by the F1 somehow. But it would have been more instructive to at least explore the TR's parameter space a little more, rather than one specific setup (and one that seems a long way from how I usually hear a TR configured, at that).
    Mind, this is a minor quibble, and is intended as constructive criticism only: this is probably the most comprehensive gear review I've ever seen, and I wish I could give it more than one thumb up.

    I bought the pedal 2 months ago. To be honest, this was a waste of money.
    My pedal produces a hell of white noise. The service was not supportive at all. The noise is so bad that I even can't resell it - so it goes straight to the toilet.

      Harald Engels what's your signal chain?

    • @HaraldEngels
      @HaraldEngels Před 6 lety

      The noise is not signal chain dependent - even when using alone in front of my amps (or in the FX loop) the amount of white noise is quite annoying. The concept of the pedal is great (like your videos) - I wish I could use it.

    • @MaxSoloMusic
      @MaxSoloMusic  Před 6 lety

      Harald Engels you do realize that connecting one preamp's output to another preamp's input is generally a bad idea, don't you? F1 is not meant to go into the front of the amp. It is supposed to go into a power amp or fx loop return bypassing your combo's preamp. What happens if you isolate F1 and connect like Guitar->F1->soundcard (or headphones)? Enable the cabsim switch
