- Watch Byomkesh Bakshi's second episode 'Rastey Ka Kanta'. Byomkesh Bakshi is a fictional detective in Bengali literature created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. He is one of the most successful and popular characters in Bengali literature.
Doordarshan now brings to you the entire series of this literary classic which was televised back in 1993 directed by the brilliant Basu Chatterjee. Actor Rajit Kapur played the role of Byomkesh Bakshi, for which he was highly praised. Ajit was played by K.K. Raina and Satyaboti was played by Sukanya Kulkarni who was the first actress to play the character.

Earlier DD national was like Netflix, Various producers used to release their content exclusively on DD.
DD National in the 1980s and early 90s had the best content...none of the channels today can match that stuff.

I'm a 20 year old from Kashmir and I like Bengali culture( potrayed in this series) and how Bengalis are gifted with acting, directing and writing skills. Of course, this serial was always close to my heart as a kid. Now, I'm going through all the episodes once again.

I am always amazed to see how such a great quality detective serial could be made from such a poor production values. Bengali producers/directors like Basu-dada and Satyajeet Ray (not linked to Byomkesh Bakshi) are the finest professionals on small screen or big screen. Just look at Thank you Bengal!!

This is one of the many examples of intellectual contents produced in India, unfortunately at that time very few people had access to TV. Now when most of people can afford TV, contents are brain rotting. In fact contents of today's Indian television has given a reason to call TV 'Idiot Box'

All stories are linear, simple and from one person's perspective - Byomkesh Bakshi. No character development, no subplots, no cross questions, bare minimum laughable logic and simplistic approach. Still, I used to love them as a kid. They hold some very nostalgic memories for me. Thanks DD for uploading them.

Such good performers! It's like they're both living the characters. Rajit Kapoor is so on point. The mannerisms, the obnoxious yet genius hand movement, that goddamn winner smile. And the most freaking amazing part is, it's all 1 shot. Beautiful!
Watching this serial brings back peace in this extra tension life... Rooms and all look realistic , one can relate to... Moreover these serials showcase some good intelligent things which we as Indians had made and shown to the world.

This episode made me fall in love with this series. I went on to read all Byomkesh stories. This is by far the best detective series that has come out of India.
For someone like me who has read the entire Byomkesh Bakshi in Bengali . This story on paper and ink was a different experience all together when i was a kid.It has so many undertones of not just a murder mystery but the many facets of human emotion and its fragility.It was beautiful.
