If it works for some people, then let it go. I am 25 years without a drink ( I drank a 750 vodka a day). I needed the help of AA to get me to understand that wasn't the only person in the same situation. I learned from others, learned from the principals of the 12 steps and moved on with my life. I didn't like the all-or-nothing mentality of the groupies. I found it repulsive and judgmental. Your level of defensiveness makes me believe you're being forced into something. Your anger is a real turn off. Suggest alternatives, if you have any. Party on, Dave.

@davidconroy8554 The biggest problem you can't seem to see is that YOU are the one ranting like the victim always does. Your stubbon pride will take away everything in your life, and the only ones that will put up with you are the same as you, and from experience, no one wants to be with you.
So when one day you're sitting in your pit of hatred and self-pity, do the world a favour and don't get onto social media looking for self justified validation.

  • @debbieplaister979
    @debbieplaister979 Před 23 dny +2

I have no idea why you have come onto my feed this morning, but what a rant!
I can hear what you're saying and wonder if your dependence upon MAN for an answer is the problem.
You pointed out every failure of man's input regarding treatment centres, church, and 12 step groups. And I couldn't fault your criticism of all three.
However, if you truly wish to stop drinking, you need to look at how your 'mind' works.
    Alcoholism is a two-fold illness.
Like me, you don't look like a bottom drinker. You can leave it alone for a few days or weeks, maybe. So you don't need help to stop.
My bodily need for alcohol only takes place once i've put a couple of drinks into it. It sets off a chemical reaction that needs more, and I end up in blackout or pass-out.
I can wake up the next morning, groggy, and get on with my day.
However, if I don't sort my thinking (my mind) out, sooner or later, I'd be picking up a drink again, and I did that for years.
Thankfully, eventually, I asked someone to help me understand the book alcoholic anonymous. Sod the phone calls and the 90 meetings in 90 days! It's not about that.
Sponsorship is about understanding the 164 pages of text and applying it to your life. It should be a process of a few days or weeks. The more you put in, the more you get out. Once you've done the work, cause it's all about action, you start it all over again with someone else, anyone else that wants to learn or go through it too. The drunk- a -logs in meetings and the therapy sessions (the poor me ) should not be there. I know a few long-term people who have never done the work. And they are not an alcoholic like me!
Now, I have never been perfect at learning it and 20 years on I'm still learning stuff but I haven't had the need for alcohol in all that time, and I don't play around with any mind altering substances. I hold a job down, I even got married to a man who knows nothing about recovery, and that's not easy😂.
I have heard someone recently say their 1st sponsor was online from America. (Im in the uk) So there are many ways to do it.
There is a "Joe and Charlie" big book study on CZcams and plenty of inspirational speakers.
I have to admit listening to Chris raymer is a big kick up the arse for me 😂
I will pray for the right person to come into your life and the realisation for you that the spiritual loving God of your understanding is working with you.🙏🏻❤

@@debbieplaister979 I don't know how it came up in your news feed either, it most certainly was not as a result of any marketing or promotion by me. Let's be clear about something, I have wish or intention to stop drinking, I enjoy drinking and it is conducive to my role. I don't believe that alcoholism is a disease, we are genetically predisposed to a way of thinking and a proclivity for drinking may arise from that. We can't change our nature but we can change our values in relation to it. However when others impose their values and morality upon us, forcing change if you like, then we become oppressed, enslaved and in turn depressed off our head. But that's ok, as long as we are conforming and not traumatizing anybody, we can suffer as long as we suffer in silence.
Or what we may find redemption in saving others, that makes us feel good, that gives us a purpose in life, identifying others with a problem and helping them. Our whole meaning in life is the saving of souls, like Christan disciples going to save the pagan souls. It doesn't matter if they want it or not, they have to be saved.
My big issue is the crusading, the emotional manipulation using words like sober, clean, proud, the dangling of the carrot, the illusion of success, the promise of a better life in which reality never matches their expectations, but there is no going back without compound their misery, oh how they have let everybody down by relapsing. Recovery is a lucrative business and I do have an issue with the aggressive marketing campaign under the guise of Utilitarianism.
There is a better way. People can learn about Nature, learn to understand Nature, learn a new way of perceiving life, a new way of thinking, learn to work together while maintaining their sovereignty and identity, learn to manage their emotions and not let them be determined by external factors. Build their self esteem without a dependence on validation by others. Learn that attachment is the biggest addiction of all and it causes the most suffering.
