Casio MRW-210H In Depth Review

  • This episode of the Good Timekeeping Show is all about Casio’s MRW210H, which is a budget-friendly version of the classic Diver Style watch. It's also a larger-than-average watch, which could make it a great fashion statement and/or a great watch for someone with vision difficulties. I found two versions at local Walmart stores for $24 each, but you should be able to easily find them online for a similar price if you can't find them in a local store. The two featured in this video are the MRW210H-1A (with the darker face) and the MRW210H-7A (with the white face). As a bonus, I also have the smaller version of the white-face model, the MRW-200H-7BV. If you like that size, be sure to check for other color and style variations if you do a general search for MRW200H. The larger watches use Casio's module 5474 and the smaller ones use Casio’s module 5125. The functions are the same in either size.
    Each of these watches offers 100 meters of water resistance, a rotating bezel, a bilingual day-of-the-week and date window at the 3 o’clock position and quartz accuracy to within 20 seconds per month (or, in my experience, even better than that!) in a lightweight, resin case. The battery should last about three years before it needs to be replaced.
    Although 100 meters is considered a minimum rating of water resistance for any kind of open-water diving, this should work very well for general use even while someone is swimming or skin diving. The price makes it a perfect "beater" watch for a lot of folks... although I don't really like the implication that anyone intends to beat up these watches. They're very sweet. Be nice to them!
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I neglected to show how the glow-in-the-dark material works on these watches. Just keep in mind that only the hour hand and the minute hand have a glow-in-the-dark coating. I would say that the quality of this "lume" is about average for Casio watches. It's not spectacular but it works a little bit. Find a demonstration of similar "lume" in my In Depth review of the smaller, MRW200H at about the 8:12 mark... • Casio Budget "Diver St...

    I have the black one. Cheapest watch I’ve ever had, still looks great, and keeps the best time out of any watch I’ve ever owned. Gains about a second per month. Obviously the lume isn’t the same but it’s a poor man’s luninox. I’ll have one on my collection forever. Good review.

    Love this Casio..I have the smaller version and wear it on my 7.5 inch wrist.....one of the most practical and best value watches You can buy. Not a screw down crown but it does have a special washer between the crown and case.

    I have the 210 H and when I’m not wearing my Samsung Galaxy 4 watch to work this is my GO TO. It has a clean look, very stylish and the bigger numbers really help a lot as a security guard, sometimes you are not around a light source. It was purchased at a pawn shop for $25.00 and was worth every cent. If you see it, do yourself a favor and get one

    I think beater watch just means that you will wear it for basically almost any occasion so the watch's condition will be beaten up because it is worn a lot.
    It is also kinda "abused" in comparison to luxury watches which will mostly be protected inside a box.

    I have the smaller one with a blue dial. On my 6,5 inch wrist fits perfectly (4th hole from the lug). Seconds arrow rarely hits the markers but the watch itself is dead accurate. For 3 months it hurries only about 2 seconds. Great value for the price.

    Hey mate - just purchased the MRW-210HB-5BVCF version of this watch for my brother from another mother. Sadly, no Walmarts here. Amazon shipped it to me from the USA via Amazon Oz, and it’s US$40/Au$54. The colour is I got was khaki - brilliant - and from your review I now know that it’s reliable too. My brother goes fishing, kayaking and snorkelling around Batemans Bay NSW - and I reckon he’ll love the simplicity and immortal sporty styling this watch features. Plus this version has a khaki nylon Velcro strap - neeaaat! Am sending him your video as the instruction manual 😄 Thank you for the detailed review - and for appreciating Casios - 2 of my 6 watches are Casios 👍🏽 greetings from Oz 🇦🇺

    I have a white dial variant and is my work watch. It has a lot of dings and scratches. The original strap broke in about a year and replaced it with a cheap rubber strap from Amazon. The bezel has high resistance when attempting to use it, so I just set it at the 12 and don't use it to time my lunch break anymore. It's out in the elements and the resin has had long exposure to UV for 3 years now. I had a G Shock in which the resin became brittle and fractured. I'm expecting my watch will fracture during the next big impact. But it has served me well. I have mechanical watches, but wear cheap quartz watches for work, weekend errands or travel especially if in areas with high rates of pick pockets.

My Bulova is appreciation service award. It's my dress watch. I really like it! And my 3 Casio's are now my daily wear. They were all under $20 each! One is a model 5400 is a $44 Chronograph I got at Walmart for $9. It's my favorite daily wear! I love Casio's. I'm not in the position currently to buy any higher price watches , but hopefully in the near future l'll be able to get some nicer ones. But I do enjoy the ones that I do have.

    Question, Greg. Why don’t use the standard time setting approach (at least for Seiko) : Make sure the hands are between 3 and 9, set the date to one day before the current date, then advance the hands until the date changes and set hands to the current time? Just a thought! Great show, Greg!

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  Před 4 lety +1

      I guess I’m just anticipating the end of any month with less than 31 days. The time can stay set while you just advance the date. My old, diver style watch from the 1970s couldn’t do that since the pull-out crown only had one outward position.

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  Před 4 lety +2

      In the video I neglected to mention that you shouldn’t adjust the date between about 10PM and 4AM. I guess it could mess up the mechanism because the watch itself would be trying to advance the day and date during those hours. Your method of setting the date to one day early while it’s between 3:00 and 9:00 and then moving it forward to the right time would avoid a problem.

    • @jstrat121
      @jstrat121 Před 4 lety +3

      On ALL of my watches,regardless of brand,age,mechanical,quartz, I use the “ day/ date 1 day before method”( or what ever you call it).
      You can set the current day/date/ time regardless of the current time of day.I do it this way:
      1)set hour and minute hands to 6:30(does not matter if am or pm).
      2)set day and date to the day BEFORE current.
      3) stop the second hand when it hits 12.
      4)advance hour/minute to current time + 1 minute(day/date will change)
      5)hack when the reference time ( atomic clock,iphone..whatever you are synching to) hits 12.
      6)you are done.......until one of those “ pain in the ass months “ rolls around 😂......then repeat.....for all of your collection😂
      This method eliminates risk of any gear damage.

      “Enough” is an interesting word for a collector. I’m getting some grief from viewers now that I’ve revealed the entire collection (so far) but I wonder if some of the backlash is due to the current social and political climate (the same reason Elon Musk decided he wanted to get rid of physical possessions to get the critics to tone things down). But if I used all the money I spent on all of these watches to start a collection of brand new Rolex watches I’d still be a little short to get the first one.

      You mean,you have less than perfect vision and you have a watch with white face and white hands? to me, i would not pay 1 dollar for that,and i like them under $50;
      To view well, one needs to select BLACK dial and WHITE hands,and white or chrome marks; AND also,the HOUR hand must be SHORTER and fatter, otherwise both hands will get mixed up (Rolex knows that, their hour hand is shorter and fat, but many watch makers DON'T!!); AND, also say no to the 12 hour numbers, 4 numbers is enough ( unless they are small,in such a way that the HOUR hand does NOT come near them,or it will appear the same length as the minutes hand...);
      I like to be able to see the time without my eyeglasses, and i have done a bit of research on this matter, hope it is useful.

    at casio the hands dont drift by pushing the crown back as it is almost always with other marks, like timex, even hanowa, or other more expensive marks...I noticed that casio does perfect jobs even in aligning second hands in movement with points among the numerals....while the more expensive swiss brands(even very expensive!!!) try almost permanently omit these things thus permanently cheating us-funny enough - for bigger price....
