- Shooting and discussing the Hi-Point C-9 9mm pistol.
Note: Occasionally, somebody takes serious offense at this video, mainly because they are poor listeners, I suspect. They immediately get upset at the thumbnail and ANY criticism of their favorite firearm. Accusing me of being a gun snob, or one of those evil "rich" people seems to be their only lame recourse. I think what really gets them is that I have a different philosophy about buying low-end guns, which I explain in the video and have talked about many times. Personally, I'd rather give up the beer, or other luxuries a bit longer and buy a previously owned higher quality firearm for just a few more bucks. Sorry, the feedback we get is that you come here for honest impressions; I'm not going to make stuff up or come up with a "feel-good" narrative that I don't really believe. At the same time, if you like Hi-Points and they work for you, have at it. I'm happy that you like them and they work for you.

Some years back my dear old dad bought the 9 mm Hi-point at the pawn shop for $25, it look like a $25 handgun, someone scratched their name into the slide, it looked pretty you know, worn out, but because of the unconditional lifetime warranty my dad send it to the Hi-point factory to be checked out, and when he got it back it was like a brand new gun, with the brand new slide new barrel new internals and it works fine, all the parts and work was done for free, so he's got a brand new $25 Hi-Point.
I don't care what anyone says, you can't beat that.
I bought one in a pawn shop this week and it was $109. it was 10 years old and never fired. It won't replace my Smith and Wessons but i looked at it like a Science Project. I tore it apart, buffed and lubed a bunch of stuff tweaked the mag spring, In the first box of federal ammo I had a couple of empty shells hitting the incoming round and shove them straight up and the slide closes and stuck. Happened 3 times in the first 50 rounds....after that no problems and i put 350 rounds through it yesterday. It will be one of my take to the range guns. It ran great on 124grn CCI
he still got ripped off lol
If the pawnshop sold it for $25, I can’t imagine what they gave the guy for it, maybe $10-$12? Lol. That’s still an amazing price , can’t beat that for essentially a new gun. Seems like one thing is certain, they come with the best customer service out there.

Hi point looks like a Nintendo 64 James bond pistol brought to life.
The C9 was my first gun. I took my initial CCW class with it. During the range portion of the CCW training, the instructor leaned close to me and whispered, "don't count on that to save your life." But I never had a problem with it. It was reliable and accurate. It was a nice gun. Ugly, heavy brick of a gun. But nice.
Lmfao I’d count on anything that spits lead to save my life vs nothing.
C9 was my first semi auto. I now own much nicer stuff and if I showed my collection to someone I would push the hi-point off to the side , like a red-headed step child, but I'm never going to get rid of it. It may be ugly and heavy but it shoots dead straight and every time I pull the trigger it goes bang, it has never failed to feed or jammed on me.
Guess it just depends on how much one's life is worth to them. Mine's more than $100, I can tell you that.
@@phantomshtterGuess what? In a blue state, your assailant better be pointing a gun at you outside your home, or a deadly weapon in his hands inside your home, or you're going to prison. So that Brand New C9 for $159 plus tax that only got shot at the range, for inside home defense is just fine.
Shows instructor didn't know much hi points almost always work
Hi points have an unconditional lifetime warranty. That's pretty legit. I had a .40 cal years ago and never had an issue with it. I bought it used from a pawn shop. I emailed the company telling them I bought a used one and asked them how I could go about getting anything that would usually come with it new in box, and they mailed me a new firing pin (they had updated it I believe), a trigger lock, and a ghost ring rear sight ALL FOR FREE. Simply from emailing them saying I bought a used one second hand. Ever since I have been trying to give them some praise whenever I can.
Don’t care what this gentleman shoots he is deadly Love watching any chance I get
If it works, and it seems to always work, then it’s a good gun.
Yep. Awesome a company can put out a reasonably useful handgun for that price, allowing a hojillion people out there to afford to defend themselves and their households. There are a bunch of single moms out there in sketchy parts of towns who can sleep a little better at night because they can afford one of these in the night stand.
I had to give this comment a thumbs up because of your user name! Love it!
Yeah but that lifetime warranty is the difference between your life or death it will jam on you when you need it most I would rather buy an sd9 anyday just a couple hundred more and it’s worth the peace of mind knowing you have a gun that at least looks good and functions every time
I say God bless them for making a functional firearm at a price that allows more people to protect themselves.

9mm Hi-Point was my first gun when I turn 21. Still have it 😮.
Say what you want but I believe these firearms have a place. Bought a first generation Hi Point .45 back in the day. I didn't have a lot of experience with guns at that time. With this gun I learned to respect it's power, safe handling principles, trigger discipline and developed a love of the sport. All of this at an entry level price. Sold mine later on as I matured in knowledge and my taste for more refined guns grew. I still think of the old Hi Point and the introduction into this sport it provided. Wish I had it back.
lol
You can a used JHP 45 for about $100-$115 or less. Just look around.
The problem with a lifetime warranty, is they will send you another Hi-Point.
This made me laugh way harder than it should have 🤣🤣🤣

Good one!
I've own all makes and models of guns. I almost years 60 years of age. I've own several Hi-Points, and shot probably 10,000 plus rounds out of mind, even dropped it in the lake by accident when I was fishing, when i was reaching for pliers in back pocket. It was in the water for 10 minutes before I found it in the water. I fired the entire magazine off without any misfire. Say what you will. My Hi-point always been reliable because I've keep it cleaned and oiled after each use. When you purchase any gun in America all you're buying is the name. Fact. I own glocks, springfields, you name it. I still own them. All you're are paying for is the name. The only gun I ever had jam on me was an old Lorcin,or Jenk 380. Fact
mister clean have you ever owned a hi-point? (I have not and I am not on either side jw)
Burglar breaks in your home and is confronted with a C9. Burglar (realizing you are broke) feels bad and leaves.
Old story, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. If this pistol saves your life, it the most valuable pistol you own. Regardless of price!
That was wrong....lol
I have to admit, your post was funny. However, I own the hipoint 99sts carbine and it is awesome.
That's the best one I've heard yet!

I am retired from the marines and i own hundreds of guns and one of my friends got me to buy one on a bet so i did and i compared it to some of my more way more expensive 9mm and the high point held its own. And it do what any gun do shoots and protect you the reason why we buy guns lol
Looks wise, the hi point 45 I had was absolutely hideous…but like you said, didn’t buy it to put it on a pedestal and gawk at it all day. I was very surprised how accurate and reliable it was. I ran everything from regular brass to + to dirty Russian steel, etc…it used it all without hesitation. The assailant doesn’t care if the round came out from a $140 or $14000 firearm…if it works, it works!
I had a C9 and it was both reliable and accurate. Also had the 10 rd mag. Never any troubles!
So the High point is basically the Nickelback of firearms. Everybody claims to hate them; yet, it's one of the best selling in the nation.
I, on the other hand, like nb. they were pretty good back in their prime.

Yeah, but it's Hickok, we're talking about. You could give the man the tie from a bread bag and his range'll still end up full of holes.
Polished the feed ramp when I bought it. Hundreds of rounds through it. Zero fail to fire feed or eject. Also zero cleaning. 👍

Never tried the C-9, but the 9mm Carbine is kinda iconic. My father has one and I've shot them in the past and they are always pretty fun and reasonably reliable. It makes me think of what it must feel like to shoot a Lego gun as a little Lego guy just because of the absurd dimensions and how blocky and oddly shaped they are. But I can get a pretty good grouping with a cheap, fun little pistol caliber carbine and shoot all day without taking out a second mortgage for ammo.

I bought a used C9 18 years ago just so I could have a pistol for home defense and because I'm a broke educator. I've since fired thousands of rounds through it. I've never had a malfunction and I've never torn it down. I was at the range yesterday outshooting the famous Sig P365. And the best thing about the C9 is, if you miss, you can always club your attacker to death with it. 🤣
For me, it's been well worth the $100 I spent and my kids learned to shoot with a heavy gun that made the transition to more modern and larger caliber (and capacity) guns very easy.

I’ve fired several hundred rounds with friends’ hi points over the years. 380s, 9mms, 45s and they are decently reliable guns. This video is an accurate representation of shooting basically any hi point. Occasionally it will hang up on the ramp, occasionally it won’t eject the brass. But for a sub 200$ handgun you can’t beat it.
Not everyone can have a nice house on the water... that’s why we have trailer parks with single wide and double wide homes... you have to appreciate that a company can actually manufacture a reliable firearm with a lifetime warranty, for under $200. Not a easy task..

They are a shooter. I'm a Glock guy to the core. And not because it's Harley over Honda. It's because for me they work. However I'll be picking up a highpoint merely for the cost and warranty. If nothing else down the road you have a gun to give to a new buddy that wants to get into shooting.

When my sister moved out on her own to Chicago from Wisconsin she went and bought one of these. She did not know a damn thing about guns. Never even shot. But she told the guy at the shop what she could afford and he showed her this. He even took her to the range at the gun shop and gave her the basic run down on how to use it and how to shoot. 2 months after she bought this and moved into her loft she had someone break in while she was asleep and she emptied a magazine at the intruder. She had a gun that she could afford so she could have the chance to be armed and defend herself. In my book these guns serve that very purpose and are good for what they are. If you cant afford much and need protection. One of these are just fine.
+Tony Castaneda That is the niche for these guns. Neighborhood go to hell? Still have to pay off the kids hospital visit? Breaks on your car giving out? You can get a hi-point and continue to get through this rough patch. When you move to a better neighborhood because you ate Ramien noodles for lunch 3 months straight and haven't seen a movie in a year you can get rid of the damned thing.
Their are tens of millions of people who can't get by on what they make. On a good month they tread water. Sometimes those people need to have a gun on hand. I would recommend a used gun but that isn't always an option. That's where hi-point comes in.
Tony Castaneda she emptied an entire magazine and didn't hit anyone ?? You should have taught her to shoot as a Brother you goon.
Very happy for your sis. However, I think she might have been better served with any quality used .380. I have purchased three Bersa's which do not garner much respect from the gun owning public here in the USA, but I love mine. All three are stone-axe reliable (the .22 needs high speed ammo like mini-mags or Rem. Vipers to function perfectly). These guns are very good 2nd tier firearms. A .380 Bersa might have fit her hand a little better too.
WHY SHOULD SHE OF BOUGHT A DIFFERENT PISTOL ? IT WORKED AND KEPT HER SAFE WHEN DESPERATELY NEEDED !
Great job sis...agreed
Thank you for giving the hi-point a fair and honest review.
I bought a new Hi Point C9 about 5 months ago. I did not like the trigger pull much. So, I bought the trigger kit for it, that took it from an 11-pound trigger to a 6-pound trigger. That made a world of difference in how it shoots. I love this gun for the weight too, it helps control my patterns. Now i will say the weight does make it difficult to use a belt holster. And being a big guy, it made i uncomfortable too. So, I got a shoulder holster and wow what a difference that made. I wear a lot of zipper hoodies or vests, so the shoulder holster made sense. Personally, I love the C9, and it has a great warranty. To anyone thinking of buying one I will highly recommend the trigger kit. It's very easy to install and very cheap too. I bought it online. and it only takes about 5 minutes to do.
Got a 45 and a 9mn pistol and carbine and a love them all been great for me
I don't have a need for a Hi-Point, but I'm glad they exist. Impoverished people can still buy a gun to defend themselves and family. That's always a good thing in my book.

I had the opportunity to buy a JHP 45 brand new in the box for 159 so I thought what the heck lets see if they are really as bad as people say. Well I bought it, cleaned the shipping lube off of it and went to work trying to make it fail. I fed it any and every 45acp rounds I could find. lots of HP rounds full ball, SWC and lots of my reloads. I have yet to male it jam, miss fire or anything else. Would I ever want to carry it for my EDC? No, but for a truck gun it truly is the perfect gun. I used to always carry mine on my boat, perfect for that corrosive environment.
I just really wish people would stop trying to shame people who really want to exercise their 2nd but maybe for whatever reason a Hi Point is all they can afford. As Hickock said "it works", More expensive does not always equate to more reliable. I watched about 160 Kimbers get sent back after they were constantly jamming on the range. these were like 1100 guns and they would not work. They were beautiful but would not work.
Sorry for the rant but I just get so tired of the shaming just because you didn't buy a "insert fanboy brand here" I personally hate Glocks because of the way they fit my hand(that weird hump thing on the grip drives me crazy) Does that make them a bad gun? Nope just means that they aren't what I like.
Oh and before the comments start about the trash I might own. I am partial to S&W M&P, Sig 226 and 220, and of course any 1911. 😁 I own all of these in various calibers and will trust my life with them any day. If all I could afford was 150 for one though I'd have the same comfort with the HiPoint.
Hi points are sprinkle guns.
They are cheap enough to sprinkle around everywhere.
Glove box,tackle box,tool box,dresser drawers,kitchen cabinets,bedside table,cache tube,ect.
The best gun you can have, is the one that's there when tshtf.
That's right
Except when it jams, you get shot, and it leaves you sprinkling all over the floor.
I used to keep several old 12 gauge single shots around like that. When I was a lot younger, they were easy to find for $30 $40, the uglier the better. One for each pickup, and one for my dirt bike, snowmobile, or tractor, on the ranch I grew up on in Wyoming. Prime coyotes were $80 or more just froze in the back of the pickup, and 00 buck, in range dropped 'em as good as anything I had some very nice shotguns, rifles, and handguns that I took good care of -- I sure didn't want to slide a Yamaha TT500 dirt bike under a barbed wire fence with momentum that had a nice shotgun in a scabored strapped to it, and I preferred always pulling the bike over with the mini 14 ranch side up -- so a $$30 shot gun was perfect.
These guns are exactly that. Perfect description and they'll work
@@lttldblj I've had to use mine twice and once I left him sprinkling all over my kitchen floor so idk what you mean G. I have yet to be shot or have a chambering problem
“A Hi-Point is like buying a skateboard from Walmart”- Martin Luther king jr.
Now damn that’s a good comparison
That's so perfect 😅😅
Except a skateboard cant save your life and the high point can!
There are better guns at Walmart but isn’t this pistol like 99$ lol
Tori Jenna It can if you use it as a club on a home invader‘s head
You may not like it, but I do. My son handed me my first Hi-Point at the range one day. Two days later I sold my GLOCk to the dealer and bought two Hi-Points. 12 years later and I have never regretted it. I love the weight, the accuracy. I also like knowing I can beat a bear to death with it if I need to
The best feature of owning a hipoint is once you run out of bullets you can throw the gun and cause almost the same amount of damage
And cost

"It's every man's right to be armed, and this gun was meant to arm every man." I can't remember where I saw this quote but that's the best I've ever heard it put.
I remember reading that in the back of a 90's era gun magazine.
Thats a good one, my favorite quote about guns has always been "God made man, Sam Colt made them equal."
think it was Sam Colt
I have an old timer friend who loves 9mms (he's a former corrections officer also) and he swears by his High Point. Its really not much on looks, but it fires and has never given him problems. I say decent gun for those of us who don't want to or can't spend $500 and up for self protection.
I have a 40cal Hi-point, had it over ten years and never fired it yet. My Taurus is my everyday carry gun, just wanted something heavier for the home. Watched a video where this guy did everything trying to stop it from firing, went through everything he threw at it, but cementing the barrel.
"The firearm is fairly accurate."
*literally hits every steel plate without missing*
Hi-Points are actually surprisingly accurate because they weigh a lot and don't use a tilting barrel. Hickok is also an extremely good shot.
@@jasoncarswell7458 the fixed barrel and blowback system makes them accurate and durable. Most everyone I've watched shoot them and struggle were having issues compensating for the weight of that slide.
Childish Randino Any gun is only as accurate as its operator.
@@shawntoodle9271 True, but you cant deny a better quality gun gives even an experienced shooter a better chance.

Facts man. Im at that level now lmao
True.
@Snap C1ty will be buying one as my first gun.
If I was 21 I'd consider a high point... I live in Arizona and I'm struggling to even get a 5.56
This.
This was my first gun that I bought on a budget. It's an absolute pain to practice with, but I also refuse to get rid of it. Much happier with my SW M & P.
My first hand gun was a fn 5-7, my second was my hipoint c9. Since then i have owned a lot of guns, many handguns in the 3k to 5k range and my hipoint c9 was the only one which ever actually saved my life! I LOVE MY HIPOINT!

It would make a great house gun, and be a good equalizer, for some people. It looks like it is hard to rack a round into the chamber though. It has a lot of negatives, but still, it is a pretty good gun, function wise.
stick go boom 👍
Not that hard to rack it if you manhandle it instead of relying on fingertips alone.
They're cheap, they work, they're reliable and they come in any colour you want, provided you want black.

My son's first hand gun was highpoint 9mm. Liked it so much he went out and got a 45 cal high point. Reliable as hell. Dropped it in a puddle and kept on shooting.

Snob
Well it’s a gun not a paper bag of course it’ll still shoot lol
I've shot both a hi-point pistol and carbine, both work just fine.
I bought mine a couple of years ago and have only fired 50 rounds. It's dependable, a little heavy (top heavy), it's thick but if you get used to it, it's fine for a house gun and that's all I need for now.
If you run out of ammo you can use it as a club!
Probably better use of this thing
Or after it jams on the third shot.
rgbigdog Then you would not only have the most accurate and low priced gun but also the finest club until you get more ammo.
I have a hi point 40 its never jammed on me but if it does itll make a mean baseball
Lmfao, true story
A lot of mobsters used Hi Points from what I've heard. They would tie the victims legs, each with a Hi Point, then dump them in the river, never to be found again.
No they don't, Mobsters put bodies in vehicle trunks and then have those vehicles crushed. With a Hi-Point.
Nicholas M hilarious!
As a guy who lives in Mob-Town. No, they dont. Gangrats use hi points. Historically, the mob used 38s and these days, they dont use guns. They use lawyers and politicians.
Brian Halphin Agreed. I'm in Florida, it's definitely the thug gun of choice...but usually stolen.
Nick M ...Lol
I bought one last year. Works fine. One reason I bought it was it had a different look and made in Mansfield, OH.
I have owned a hi point jcp40 s&w since 2003 or 04 and I even use it out hunting I have actually taken several does at 40 to 50 yards and have never had the feed problem that a saw you having. The biggest thing I love about my jcp40 is the weight helps reduce alot of the felt recoil

It's hard not to fall in love with one of those beauties
ME TOO
First firearm I bought, cheap, from a friend at a local dealer. That roll pin was a beast to get out and ended up somewhere in the room and we couldn't find it and I had to replace it. Have purchased other, far superior firearms since, of course, but I'll still hold onto it. Maybe out of nostalgia. Jams easily pulling that slide. Tried teaching my mom how to use it and gave up because I didn't want her to have to deal with something so finnicky. Good video. Covers all the positive and negatives I've experienced with it at the range.
My Hi Point 9mm is exactly what I wanted I would rather carry a $150 hi point for protection than a $600-1500 pistol. Rhese hi points are under rated In my opinion. Great gun for home defense
Lot less heartbreak when the police put it in the evidence locker (if you ever had to use it). I'd hate to see my $700 carry gun get locked away for eternity just cause I had to defend myself, then again I like to think my life is worth more than that.
