  • Preparing our van for winter travel we decided to add a backup heating solution and this portable Diesel Heater fits the bill perfectly!
    Please note - Due to the design of all-in-one heaters, it is not advisable to have the main unit within your living space. The heating air should be routed from / to your living space.

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  Před rokem +1

      If you are looking to only use it in the motorhome and are planning to go trough the floor anyway I would get one of the many permanently fitted versions and a turret plate rather than an all in one portable version like this one. That way it is fitted securely and all the exhaust connection are totally outside the the van.
      If you are temporarily installing one of these, personally I would use a through the hull exhaust fitting like this to get the exhaust out. amzn.to/3XnBslu

    Diesel fuel is dirty with sentiment that lies on the bottom of the gas tank, that’s why you will see other units with the gas nipple NOT drilled into the bottom of the tank, but a centimetre or so above the bottom. Just a suggestion .

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  Před rokem +11

      If you look at the nipple before it goes in the tank you’ll see it’s manufactured to have approx 1 cm of depth inside the tank so when mounted in the bottom the outlet is not flush. There will still be a 1 cm void below the outlet to allow any sediment to settle and not flow into the outlet pipe.

I was thinking of getting an exhaust extension pipe and running it up the chimney so I can use it indoors if we have power cuts. Is the pipe hot right up to the exhaust? Do you think the intake could just be inside the case entirely instead of the big hose sticking out? The case has some rather large vents on it. That would get rid of the bit floppy intake hose

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  Před rokem

      I imagine it could - the intake would actually come from the side of the case as it is already routed out of the case and you connect the flexible tube on the outside. Not having the air filter on may make it a bit noisier and over time may mean more dust / contaminants get into the combustion chamber that may cause problems later though.

    • @vin9976
      @vin9976 Před rokem

      @@ExploreVanUK I just got mine in. The black muffler/"filter" on the end of the combustion isn't actually a filter (just a straight hole through to the pipe). Apparently its a muffler. I found a Webasto 25mm intake filter that I'll try. I'm considering just disconnecting the internal intake hose...routing it down (short run) inside to the bottom of the case and connecting the filter. I can't imagine it'd be choked for air with all of the ventilation in the thing. Then we wouldn't need that follow black intake hose and muffler outside the case. I've seen the Keegan builds (which they kind of knocked) do this...tho instead of vents he has a small CPU fan bringing air into the case.

      Ah yeah agree, definitely worth people checking their insurance.

      There is also possibly a bit of ambiguity of whether a solution like this is actually “installed”.
      It’s often the case that policies reference gas installations and the requirements to be installed in accordance with gas safety or manufacturers instructions but being I’ve also seen specific exclusions to wood / solid fuel burners.

      Hi thanks for taking the time to comment - just to be clear - as I state in the video at 6:30 the heater was mounted in the garage, not in the living space. It is entirely sealed from the living space so will not consume oxygen from there. It is also well ventilated to ensure there is enough oxygen to ensure complete combustion.

      Just like breathing will use all the air up in the van!

    Please never run one of these all-in-one units INSIDE your van. They should always be used outside with the hot air duct routed into your van.

      Very true - I should have made that more clear in the video.
      I'll add it to video description

      I agree yet even a home fireplace exposes dangers if precautions are not taken. Similar to "Don't go in the water if you don't know how to swim". If used inside be careful. Ventilate, CO detector and a fire extinguisher.
