      I find interesting his RMA got denied. Almost as if nobody ever bothered to run any diagnostics or visual inspection. They´ve probably just plugged it in and "if it works, it works".

      I've tried learning diagnostics, but I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my friends 1080Ti, so I just went ahead and sent it to NWR for repair.
      Edit: Apparently, there was nothing wrong with it, and now I believe that either the DDR4 memory or the PSU is the issue.

    After watching your video I checked to see if my card was running at the right speed. And it was not. After a bit of research I realized the card was in the incorrect slot. I moved it to the proper slot and suddenly was running at 16x. I learned something and have you to thank. I use my card for AI and don't know if that change affects my work but it's nice to know I have the power if I need it. Thank you.

    Very interesting! When you mentioned the Bus Interface, I opened GPU-Z and was (at first) shocked to see my 3090 showing x4. Was afraid it meant a broken cap. However after some Googling, it turns out that I plugged my GPU into a PCIE slot that only supports x4 mode - I should have plugged it into the slot right above to get 16x! Without this video, I wouldn't have noticed it - thanks.

      It's a little bit hard for me to understand how you were able to fit your card in a 4x slot. 4x PCIe slots are those little ones. Usually the long ones are 16x or 8x. I've never seen a long slot supporting only 4x speed. It may have some motherboard BIOS settings that limit the speed to 4x but otherwise you should've got 8x.

    • @batemanjo9
      @batemanjo9 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@Dandan-tg6tjit's very common for the board manufacturers to have undersized 16x sockets. It all depends on how many onboard components they have. Such as, SATA, m.2, wifi, onboard video, and many others. The more they have the less bandwidth available for the expansion sockets. I have seen a few 16x sockets only supporting a 1x lane of speed. Sometimes if you have a 16x socket and you plug something into it that is 16x, It may disable another socket or cut the speed in half of another slot. You have you read the specifications in the manual. Those specs are topically not listed on the "features" summary on retailers product page. It's not specific to any manufacturer, they all do it. A new thing is some of the boards with 2 or 3 M.2 slots will have different speeds on each one so they don't match. Again that's to have more bandwidth for other components. This started happening when on board components were added to the motherboards as time goes by.

      I don't repair cards but I also knew it was going to be capacitors near the PCI-e slot once he said that the card wasn't using all the lanes. Not because I'm smart, but because I follow a lot of GPU repair channels and every time when there's a video with this problem it was caused by missing capacitors near the PCI-e slot. So it's one of those issues that you learn from previous experience. These guys probably repaired hundreds of cards so you begin to notice patterns.

    I think I would be nice if you could run a PCI-E bus stress test with a 4.0 CPU/board after repairing data lines. PCI-E 4.0 is known to have much lower margins for signal integrity issues than 3.0. I worry that any repair that alters the impedance of the differential pair might cause rare random issues due to PCI-E transmission errors.
