I think both bikes are awesome for different reasons.
My favorite thing about the new 2023 KTM Super Duke R is the throttle response. It' very user-friendly compared to previous model-years.

I’ve done test rides on both. The KTM front end always wants to come up and it’s exhausting trying to keep it down while still enjoying the acceleration. Plus for the $20k price tag I’ll take the already included QS and suspension of the Tuono. I agree with you that the Tuono feels more “planted”, not to mention a ton more wind protection on the highways. I’ll quote you here “all roads lead to the Tuono” 😊

Clear clutch, exhaust, reservoirs before the QS Tech Pack. I would have reversed that. The go always takes priority over show on my machines. Looks great but I need to feel great before I look great. All bad ass bikes there.
superduke is my favourite bike ; Tour, Race, City Rippin - can do everything well.
Just got an rsv4 factory as i wanted a powerful sportsbike so an RSV4 & a 1290r for me is the perfect setup

Theres no point buying the ktm without the techpack ,,the techpack opens up the beast . Traction control on 2 ,anti wheelie mode ON and sm switched on ,performance mode and track throttle and you'll whoop the Aprilia on track but the Aprilia is the best sounding bike on the planet 👍

In 2020 I was looking to buy a used KTM Superduke 2017-2018. I could not find one in my area but then I found a Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory 2018 which were sold in 2019. I still have it and I very much enjoy this bike. The engine, the sound and the quick shifter is something special. I fear I will never experience such a good quick shifter again.

Crazy how quiet the gp22 sounds in video, i have it on my rsv4 factory (thanks again for hooking it up!). Its so loud you can feel it in ur chest & regularly sets off car alarms 😂

Had a super duker gen3 for 1 year and switched to a tuono 23 i liked them both but nothing beat the sound of the v4 😂
Sound and precision.
Love the look of the Duke but I clearly chose the Tuono for two reasons over the KTM, 1 V4 sound/power and 2 it was more comfortable for me for longer sessions
Can't beat a V4. KTM will make one one day.
i added the new Apriia bar risers to my 1100 v4 Tuono and very happy with it.
Quickshifter is a SW option that takes 5 minutes to unlock, you also get the track throttle mode which is an absolute must. If you cant afford to get it unlocked dont buy the bike.

You are really getting half a bike without the QS and race throttle mapping which is available through an unlock called the 'tech pack'. Its a shit move by KTM but thats how they chose to do it. Just extra cost to get stuff activated that's already there on your bike.
The only time ever I switch out of race throttle mapping is if the weather is so bad that I shouldnt be riding at all anyways, then ill put it in rain mode and pray for the best, sport and street modes are irrelevant.

Maybe I'm the only one that really doesn't like my bike to be so loud... loving my Evo, I wanted the Tuono but it was another $8,000 after taxes in Canada and I love big-bore twins so I made my choice and I would do it again, the Super Duke is a fantastic street bike and that's where mine will spend its life as I have dedicated race bikes. As a street bike you didn't take into account that you can turn that KTM into a sport tourer with heated grips, heated seat (yeah I have 'em), fitted panniers, hand protection, the catalog for the bike is huge and you can have a bike that will do just about anything including long trips. The Tuono is an amazing machine but as a street bike it's rather limited in terms of anything but back road brawling - I say this as a lifelong Aprilia owner who's had 3 RSV4s and a Tuono (for 16 years!)

Agreed, once you go with heated grips and cruise control, there’s no going back.
After riding my mates 2023 superduke even in all the modes I found the tuono was a-lot more animal like with the v4 power/sound but the duke is an animal in a different way, older models were less forgiving for sure! none of the less wheelie machines 😎

Id love to own a tuono, but ill take an all black superduke any day! It just looks super mean and that brutal vtwin off the line sounds like a blast lol. And when it comes to fixing the suspension feel, theres a youtube channel called superduked that covers fixing that

I have KTM 890 Adv and even thought the quick shifter/cruise control is installed KTM charges $500 to download software to activate them and other electronics. I went with cruise enable that was $250 plus $130 for shop time(should have been included labor). I had 2017 Factory Tuono and would love to have another!

I have the 23 tuono and my friend has a 21 SDR. Very closely matched. Mine i feel has a tad more wind protection and id never trade the v4 sound.

Also the EVO edition with the Apex Pro 2 WP suspension is a significant upgrade with front wheel feedback and offers the "planted-ness" that the stock WP offers less of.

I’ve owned both a ‘16 Super Duke and my current ‘19 Tuono V4 1100 Factory. Being tall, the KTM has way more room, but the sound and handling of the Aprilia more than make up for it being a bit tight.
The KTM is definitely roomier.
I bought a Tuono 2018 when I could not find a used Superduke in 2020. I am 6.36 feet tall (194cm) and the Tuono is a bit small. I wish it was 10% bigger over all. I still might buy a Superduke one day. I love my Tuono. The sound, engine and quick shifter is phenomenal.
Tuono feels konger and. Biger then Ducati Streetfighter🔥🤙
The gen 3 duke is much, much better than the previous generations.

My 2022 1290 SDR Evo is fully loaded. I don't know why someone would cheap out on the features that maximize the KTM's potential?

Same here. I have a '23 Evo with tech pack and I think this is the best bike I have ever ridden. I had two RSV4s and a Tuono this spring, sold the Tuono and street RSV4, kept the track RSV4 and bought my KTM. Loving the bike, it's just great. I'm going to put the BT Moto tune on it shortly.

I'm a ktm fan, have a 500 xcfw and 690 smcr but I just bought a new Tuono v4 factory because I like how it looks and sounds more than the superduke and I literally never see Apes when I'm out riding...plus I got a smoking deal I couldn't pass up.

When I owned my tuono (which is the first time on a tuono) my first thought is hooligan! Honestly the tuono is the best of all worlds hooligan, carving/track and you could even tour/daily. I did it all on mine. The KTM to me is like a overgrown supermoto in my opinion not that it's a bad thing it's just not as refined as a tuono or the ducati street fighter with that being said id take the tuono hands down!

I’d take the Tuono because I hate pay to play. If KTM offered everything it gives during its promo. I’d 1000% take the KTM. Even though the Aprilia takes it in the sound and engine department. I’m definitely curious how many other people pass on KTM as a whole because of their pay to play program? They have great bikes that could be segment leading. But they price themselves out by making you pay for what should come stock and is already installed on the bike.

I agree. That's why SC Project made the GP22 only for the Aprilia V4 at this point.
Having SuperDuke 1290 1.0 and EVO 3.0 and two Aprilia 1100 Factory V4s, nothing pulls as fiercely as KTM 1308cc L8 V-twin engine. The Aprilia V4s had the edge with refinement over SDR 1.0 and 2.0, now with the changes in the electronics the KTM is a suave as the Aprilia. Aprilia however with the SC Project is as close to anything you will have that sounds like a MotoGP bike. The SDR needs the Tech Pack for the extra $1K if you're already paying north of $20K. It doesn't make sense to buy an SDR and not add the Tech Pack. Aftermarket Gucci parts favor the Aprilia with aftermarket brands like Rizoma (yes for SDR too), CNC Racing, Lighttech with forged aluminum. KTM after market still agricultural vs Ducati and Aprilia.
Good points. I did notice the refinement of this 2023 KTM SDR over the previous generations.
I'm riding a Super Duke gen3 after swapping from a Fully modded (Gabro, suspension etc) Tuono 1100 as well.
I would say that a really big game changer in favor of the Tuono is that apparantly with the latest generation they fixed the stupid throttle that has been haunting the Tuono since they introduced the 1100, mine had on/off throttle issues up to about 50kph. Gabro tuned diminished it but it was still there.
Edit: With regards to electronics: the Duke is way better than my old Tuono, but I havnt tried to feel out the newest generation Tuono so its not a fair comparison... Would never rely on electronics for saving me from a highside anyways :)
Edit 2: Will the Tuono still overheat in traffic or did they fix that? KTM is not overheating.

Whilst the SDR is brilliant; there is no riding it calmly. Even when you want to chill, it's always a handful. Not to mention KTM's questionable reliability. That's why i would take the Tuono.
I'm not familiar with KTM reliability issues but the Aprilia is just soo good.

Not at all. Granted I have the tech pack and Evo suspension, but you can put the bike into Comfort mode / Road throttle mode etc. and it will calm its ass RIGHT down. But wide open throttle is always wide open throttle and it goes completely jekyll/hyde on you, could take you by surprise because it's so docile at most throttle positions in those modes. You could *almost* hand the bike to a novice when it's in its docile throttle modes. That would be stupid, however.
Should be able to turn supermoto off and put it in road/sport mode for rear abs....
KTM screws its customers into buying a pkg to unlock what's there already....kinda shitty but still they make great bikes for what they are designed to be....I like orange too so 😂

What's the point of testing a motorcycle on a straight road? I feel so sorry for my American biker friends who are forced to ride their bikes almost always on straight roads. A mortal bore in addition to the fact that it is difficult to understand the handling or speed of direction changes of one bike compared to another or how they behave when leaning, in hairpin bends or when braking on bends... I understand that on straight roads acceleration and horsepower or the ability to wheelie matters

Tuono V4 Factory hands down. Especially with the GP22 exhaust. I've never been a fan of KTM and their tech and performance packages. Having to pay more on top of a 20k price tag just for a quickshifter when it should be available standard is just wrong to me.
KTM is behind a bit with the electronics package and engine config. It's still awesome but hard to beat the latest Aprilia V4.
I would go for the Tuono, even though I do like the Superduke R, I've read about too many KTM's having electronic issues. Aprilia 100%

Aprilia is not 100% when it comes to electronics or other issues. Here's a list of 'other COMMON issues' with Aprilia Tuono V4...
The Master Cylinder had a recall.
Low-Speed Fueling Error
Models manufactured before 9/28/2015; the rear sprocket bolts may become loose.
Quickshifter has been reported to be ineffective. Sometimes there are False Neutrals. Gear shifts are not as smooth as in previous models.
Dash Dim becomes blank and then returns to normal.
Hot Start Issue: one user observed that the starter cable was routed incorrectly, causing it to melt and fall onto the cylinder head.
The bike accelerated on its own while warming up to operating temperature. This occurs on occasion. And when slowing down for a junction, almost as if the rpm drops too low and the ECU tries to speed it up again, this only happened during the motor warm-up phase and around 2000rpm.
Engine problem after 2000 miles (Aprilia will replace it under warranty).
Some users reported fuel leaks; if you experience this problem, Aprilia will replace the fuel tank under warranty unless it's voided.

Because the Brembo brakes on these bikes are so powerful they can overwhelm a street tire, no problem. And it's so good on these bikes, you want it.

@@mikebroon1 I'm a national racer. If I tell you it's good, it's good. The stock S22 front tire can be overwhelmed by those calipers and pads and ABS keeps you from ending up on your ass. With a track tire or something like a SuperCorsa SP it's less useful but still nice to have on a street bike.
