  • What Must I Do to Be Saved?
Acts 16:31 explained from Acts 2-28
God has given us an amazing picture of salvation in Acts. Salvation has only one Door (Christ), but has many descriptions (these accounts). Every one of us who comes to Christ, finds that He does what these accounts describe when He enters our lives.
Each of the 22 different individual portraits of salvation God records for us, are the way to eternal life; but all of them are true about the life of everyone going to Heaven. You see, when God saved us He made us new creations, and transformed us into the sons and daughters of God.
Welcome to the Gospel of God, written down for us in Acts. For the opening thirty years of Christ's church, from Christ's Ascension in AD 30 until Paul’s arrival in Rome to await trial in AD 60: God has given us a Divine Summary of the Gospel. Paul, Peter, James, Jude, and John all explain the doctrine surrounding salvation; but the Book of Acts gives the actual words of the actual messages, when salvation is offered and received.
In the study of the sharing of the Gospel, there is really nothing more vital than the words we have before us today in Acts. Today we are going to step back and look at the entirety of this history of the Gospel’s spread. Right almost in the middle of Acts these most famous words are spoken by the jailer of Philippi to Paul: “What must I do to be saved?”
The answer can be found in the sum of all the parts as well as in the simple response of Paul in Acts 16:31: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.” Salvation is both simple and profound. It is impossible yet so constantly effective. Salvation can be perplexing, confusing, and incomprehensible to so many, but to those who believe and respond it is always the power of God.
Join me in Acts 16:31, as we listen to this simple explanation of the Gospel by Paul.
Acts 16:31 (NKJV) So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST?
To the jailer’s simple question, we can answer with God’s complete record of all that He wanted us to know, to hear, and to see in these 28 chapters. What Must I do to Be Saved? Simply believe that Salvation is:
    1. Coming to Christ and Away from Religion (Acts 2:21, 37-38)
    2. Wanting Jesus More than My Sin (Acts 3:19,26)
    3. Seeing Jesus Christ as the Only Door to Salvation (Acts 4:12)
    4. Finding that the Holy Spirit has Changed My Life (Acts 5:31-32)
    5. Receiving a New Heart (Acts 8:21-23)
    6. Believing with all your heart (Acts 8:35-37)
    7. Wanting Jesus as the Lord to Obey (Acts 9:1-6)
    8. Knowing the Peace of Sins Gone (Acts 10:36,39-43)
    9. Turning to the Lord in repentance (Acts 11:21)
    10. Having both the Penalty & Record of ALL my sins forever gone (Acts 13:38-48)
    11. Turning from Useless Things to the Lord (Acts 14:15,21,27)
    12. Asking God to purify my heart (Acts 15:7-9)
    13. Heeding God’s Word from an Opened Heart (Acts 16:14-15)
    14. Believing in God the Son as the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31-34)
    15. Following Jesus as the New King of my life (Acts 17:6-7)
    16. Reaching out to God as True Creator & Repenting of all Idols (Acts 17:22-34)
    17. Believing & Worshipping God (Acts 18:8-13)
    18. Entering God’s Kingdom & Following God’s Way and no longer mine (Acts 19:8-26)
    19. Repenting & Believing in the Kingdom of Christ (Acts 20:21-25)
    20. Following the Way of God’s Righteousness, Self-control & Judgment (Acts 24:14-27)
    21. Experiencing God-opened Eyes & God-turned Living (Acts 26:18)
    22. Entering God’s Kingdom & Living God’s Way (Acts 28:28-31)
    THE TESTIMONY GOD GAVE US
The book of Acts is a report that God gave to us, of how the Apostles Christ personally trained, and the disciples they trained, shared the Gospel message in every possible setting.
What we get is to see how the eyewitnesses and those they trained, shared with the world what happened in the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

    What a powerful sermon.
It was exactly what my hard heart needed to hear.
Bitterness can creep in over time, when we place our eyes on ourselves rather than soley on Jesus.
Sometimes God will use extreme pain to bring us to Him, and to sharpen our focus so that it is on God alone.
"For it is hard to kick against the pricks" Acts 5:9, Acts 26:14
When you ask God to search your heart, or to give you a new one; He will absolutely do this, even if it means we must suffer to accomplish this.
I praise God for answering my prayers, and I thank Him for sharpening my focus through the pain.
I also praise the Lord for the insight I needed, that His faithful servant John Barnett provided through this sermon, as directed by the Holy Spirit.

The overwhelming message gleaned from the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is that we too are pinned to our torture stake, not by nails, but by flesh, blood, muscles and sinew. Our spine, if not cared for righteously, will lose all its nervous strength and crown us with a crown of thorns. We need to get wise because the imminent arrival of Wormwood will finish the job we have started.

I have been of the same opinion as yourself.
I've come to believe that believing (true believing) must bring about a change in our heart, else the death of Jesus is diminished.
I had believed myself saved, and that the sins I still committed were "stronghold" sins, and I used that as an excuse to commit those sins.
When I realized ny heart was extremely hard, I began to pray for a new heart. I asked God to search my heart.
      God certainly answered my prayers.
When I watched this sermon last night, I wasn't but a few minutes in when the Lord convicted me through His Holy Spirit.
There was no doubt that Pastor John had spoken the words that God wanted me to hear.
Acts 5:9 kept coming to mind:
"For it is difficult to kick against the pricks", as Jesus said to Paul. I too was very stubborn.
Sometimes God must use pain to sharpen our focus and put it where it belongs: on Jesus.
I pray that my severe pain would be healed as soon as possible, but God's will be done, and I praise God for answering my prayers.
I pray that God would bless you richly in all knowledge and understanding.

      @davidgraham2673 Před 13 dny

PS, I wasn't saying that I wasn't saved, but that I was one of those with a flat tire in the ditch, as Pastor John said.
However, I also know that there are some who claim to be Christian, and never show any signs of having known Jesus.
They claim to believe, but a simple profession of faith without a change would make a mockery of the crucifixion, and God's Holiness, Majesty, and Mercy.
      Best wishes.
      God Bless you.

@@3BadBostons , None of us are worthy or capable of judging another person's state of salvation.
We are however called to maintain the Church body.
If a "believer" is engaged in a sinful lifestyle, that "believer" is to be counciled first by the Pastor, then by a group of Elders.
If repentance is refused, this person is to be denied access to the Church until such time as repentance occurs.
This is Biblical, and is God's Word, not mine.
If it is the case, that Church leaders are responsible for doing this, then certainly a change of heart must be accounted for as a result of salvation, else why excommunicate them?
If you still disagree, that's your decision.
I will pray for you, nonetheless.
      Have a blessed day.

    • @3BadBostons
      @3BadBostons Před 13 dny

@@davidgraham2673 well, what is a sinful lifestyle? From what I read it is sexual immorality and/or idolatry, and beyond that, after Paul had instructed the Corinthians to put away "that man", he later (as he matured) instructed the church to restore him. I don't understand what you mean about maintaining the body, I believe that is the work of the Holy Spirit. Also, what church or church leaders? Do you see true prophets(not future seeing weird prophets, just proclaimers of His Word) leading churches today?
My point is(about free Grace) is that that is what the scriptures teach. They also teach to abide in Christ and that we are at liberty to make choices, just not to choose or not choose to believe. God has laid on my heart the brethren who know Christ yet do not abide in Him and haven't for maybe years, given over to sin, just like the Bible says can happen. They don't need someone telling them that they weren't really saved or that they have to do something to gain eternal life. God has put ony heart that He want His children to repent and come back to Him, like the prodigal son, he was always his son, even in the pig slop. Jesus says that He will not lose one that the Father has given Him and all that the Father has given Him will come to Him.
      Do you believe that?
Blessings on your journey brother and may His peace always be with you.

    Who is the creator?
    Genesis 2:1-3 KJV
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. [2] And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. [3] And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
When we accept Christ and are saved by His grace through faith. That faith in Christ also acknowledged Him who created the universe in 6 literal days and rested on the 7th Day Sabbath. Therefore following His example is not salvation by works! It is faith in Christ that He is the creator who rested on Sabbath and commission us to follow Him.

God made himself accessible to man by condescending as close as possible that we may now walk with and in God, ie. Taking on our own flesh/ humanity.
The incarnation of our God continues through out time in that we now are his body, jn 17: 21.
It's the sad existence of protestantism that keeps our Victorious God far away and invisible, awaiting a future return, with only a one sided prayer to associate with each other. The kingdom is now even in our hearts and ever progressing till he returns as he left, but how does he fulfill his promise never to leave us. In and by his Holy Spirit "only" in his body through repentance, Baptism, Eucharist, and fellow saints. This is and always was done from the Apostles to now.
