    All I can say is we do our flat roofs differently here in Wales. A 3 layer torch on system layed on Kronospan. A 40 year life. Preferably a warm roof.

      Seems reasonable for a place that gets constant rain almost year round. Here in California we don't even need to torch anything down, we can just nail it down and it'll do just fine lol.

    That channel was excellent, but your CZcams channel is better. Great video. Shocking how much old roof material in that dumpster. Hard honest work. Thanks for the video. I don't know if it's just me but the video gets stuck at 9:36 when you were showing the water around the chimney. I had to skip forward 10 sec to get it to play again.

    If you go over the stones, you will have a gap where hot air can't escape and it will get too hot.Accelerating deterioration of the material used for the roof-over.

    Good thing you use dark gray cap sheet this time we can hardly see all you burn marks. By the way did you tell the home owners there heating and cooling bill is going to be higher now that you removed any R value the roof had and didn't put any back?

  • @adobemastr

    At 9:14 the "doctor" says, "Not much water..." then proceeds to show us a roof FULL of puddles of ponding water! But that's okay, he says at 9:16, "...a little bit of water standing like this is okay because this will dry up in a day." Really? In that environment with high humidity where his shirt is soaked with sweat? Unreal. That water might takes WEEKS to evaporate in some of the deeper areas on that roof, all the while eating into and slowly destroying it, allowing mold and moss to grow in it and all kinds of other problems.

    Hey, Flat Roof Doctor! I am curious about a product that you use for sloped flat roofs with EPDM on top. You use the silicone seal from bergstrom. Do you have any experience with the other silicone roof coating such as GACO, Henry, Kool Seal (by Sherwin Williams), or Blackjack? Also, how many coating would you suggest on an old EPDM roof (15+ years) with a small leak when there is heavy rain (I think caused by water pooling)?

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  Před 2 lety +2

      Hmm, I can't vouch for all the other brands. What I do know is that the fleece that comes with the Bergstrom Super Silicone Seal, is incredible. You can buy a fleece at Home Depot, made by Henry, and it is not that good. It does not work as well.
      My suggestion is to get the silicone and the fleece and seal the seam in that particular area on the roof. It most likely will fix the problem. No need to coat the entire roof.

    Hello..
    I recently moved into a home and the history of my porch roof sounds similiar to this. I think it was a torch down, then someone put some kind of tar or asphalt coating over it probably 6-7 years ago based on Google Earth imagery.
    I have no obvious leaks yet, but what should I do to prolong the life?

    What to do to prevent a large water pooling on the roof?
    Is that even possible to avoid?

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  Před 2 lety +2

      I have done this for years. When a roof is completely flat, and cause some pooling in areas, I cut a channel from the pooling area to the edge. That is like pitching the roof, but in a narrow area. Logic. On this particular roof I did channels in 3 different areas, and came out very nice

      @700singer Před 2 lety

      u put a channel for flow of water on a flat roof over a den with minimal depth?yes the roof needs either TAPERS ON TOP, OR PITCHING WHICH CAN BE DONE WITH LAYERING THE STYRO BOARDS I SUPPOSE U NEED PITCH OR CHANNELS CUT OTHERWISE U WILL HAVE PENETRATION...ON MY NEWLY CHEAPLY DONE JOB FOR 8000 there is rubber over styro board no pitch i go up after a rainstorm and push water off with a snow pusher...really ticked off...

  • @InspectorRoof

    When you torch cap onto cap you are attempting to torch rubber to CRUSHED UP PORCELAIN, THIS DOES NOT WORK. Spend the fucking money you were given in the quote for the proper adhesives or fucking embedded the granules on the bottom layer. This is insane that someone let you do this work on their home.
