Thank you, Elie. I have used boric/alcohol and use Pripp's most recently as a barrier because I like the stickier quality for also helping parts to stay together for solder placement, but still get fire stain, particularly since I started working with the Little Torch. It seems like my time runs out in how long the barrier will last, or the addition of oxy in the gas mix makes it more prone to happening. I'm going back to acetylene/air next week to see if that helps because I think I might be overheating in an effort to get the Little Torch to work like a big torch, even with the Paige tips.

Diane, try to decrease the amount of oxygen a bit, the oxygen is the culprit when it mixes with the copper.

Should the mixture dissolve eventually? It would be nice to have it in a spray bottle.

Yes the mixture will dissolve after soldering by putting the silver piece in the acid to clean it then polish. The problem with the spray bottle is the boric acid and the borax are in powder form and they will plug the spray nozzle. Thanks for watching my videos 😊

I meant will the mixture dissolve and turn clear in the jar? Or does it remain white and granular? Thanks!

      No the mixture doesn’t dissolve.

Hi, thank you for video! Do you coat your pieces with this barrier to anneal or only when soldering operations? 🙏

Both, since both will create firescale. Anytime you take your torch to your silver you have the potential of creating firescale. Now if you happen to cover your piece with flux, you won't need to provide this coating, although it won't hurt it.

I mixed up a batch of this according to your formula, 1/2 Boric Acid, 8 tsp of Borax, and the balance with denatured alcohol. This equaled a total of 1 Cup. It seems a bit grainy. Is that normal?

Yes Sandra, usually it will settle down on the bottom and the alcohol on top, when you dip your silver in, use a tweezers and stir everything, that will work.

How long can you keep that mixture for?

Hi Ruti, you can keep the mixture almost forever as long the Isopropyl doesn’t evaporate. Thanks for watching!!!
