We all give James credit but dont forget Kirk matches James with all these riffs at the same time
All studio guitars were played by James. Kirk played only his own solos. I love Kirk, but there was a reason why James Hetfield played all rhythm-guitars on the studio. Kirk is a weaker rhythm-guitar player, there were a lot of guitarist who could play like Kirk. But James was one of the best rhythm-guitarist in 80's.
James did all the rhythms for the first 4 albums.

This blows my mind every time I hear it. Imagine doing this back in 85 with the equipment they had available, on analog, with no pro digital editing tools, AND quad tracked?? James was an animal and anyone who slanders his ability is blowing smoke up your ass

Self taught, no you tube videos to study, just practice and dedication. Dude just has the gift. He knows what sounds fierce and is able to make that happen on a guitar. A once in a lifetime guitar talent. Those gallops are fucking filthy.
