Sunak's Last Election Tricks Out | Morning Brew with Phil Moorhouse

- During the final TV debate between Sunak and Starmer, the Tories opened with their final dirty tricks campaign. Sunak made a point of interrupting as much as possible, giving easy answers which have already failed, Conservative HQ changed one of their Twitter accounts to make it look like a fact checking site, again, and then a stream of adverts has been released claiming fabricated Labour policies.
This is the final phase, but at least the end is in sight now.

How the hell Sunak has the gall to criticise Starmer for his plans and to pretend he has the answers is beyond me! The Tories have had long enough to sort out their mess and have come up with nothing. Sunak lives in a dream world that has nothing to do with understanding the plight of the normal people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lying to the public must be punished by law.
This applies to all parties.
Last nights tv debate was so one sided to the torys . Lying to the public must be punished by law.
Honest politics and Tory politics are contradictions in terms. Lying is a necessary part of a Tory’s political equipment, for it is essential for them to conceal their political intentions from the people.
There is enough subtle wiggle room in the Labour manifesto to initiate actual sanctions against politicians lying.
It's also in Labours full policies not just the election ones.
There needs to be a full independent investigation into the last governments actions along with criminal prosecutions against x government ministers
Astonishing Tories lying.
Why should we be surprised?
Rats are most dangerous when they are cornered.
Feral ones for certain, but Sunak is more of a domesticated fancy one and the best he can manage is to feebly show his teeth & get tad snarky
The Rat going for the eyes is a myth. They go for the space where the light is each side of the head. Ive cornered enough to realise. I get your point thou!
The Tory party is a walking contradiction
Just received a Reform Plc leaflet .....aaah Soft Strong and thoroughly absorbant 🚽
like farage, it probably won't just go away after you flush it
I got mine. It recycled well.
I’m almost tempted to join Labour just so I can join the Labour group for electoral reform. I vote Green not Labour but it could infinitesimally help increase the chances of getting a fairer voting system and pushing climate up the agenda with more Green MPs.
But what Starmer says goes so why bother.
@@stuartbenzie6115 it’s not just up to the leader to make the decision and pressure within and without the Labour party could increase the chance of them going for electoral reform.
Amanda ‘Labour Voter’ Lloyd Harris, doesn’t that contravene electoral law in some way 🤔?
The debate last night was basically a party political broadcast on behalf of the tories, sponsored by the BBC.the host was so biased in favour of the crime minister, it was disgusting, the audience reading questions, obviously to fit the crime ministers script he was reading from, and desperately trying to stick to,assisted by the host, when he was challenged by Starmer, before he had chance to get his point across, the crime minister just shouted him down and the host didn't do a thing, she left him to spout his bullshit unhindered, she should be fired for failing to be impartial absolutely disgusting, it's difficult to judge which one is the most loyal party member, her or kuensberg, appalling behaviour,
I'm a trans-person with the right to lead my life in the same way as any other person.
To be clear, I am hugely disappointed by the reported opinions of the Labour leader and his apparent opposition to electoral reform. This is a massive point of principle for me.
It doesn't matter how strong a government FPTP delivers, it can all be undone very quickly if the electorate lurches to the right again.
I have already voted and that wouldn't have changed anyway, but if these reports prove to be true and PR is effectively off the agenda, I will resign my Labour membership and move to a progressive party that supports PR.
(Edit) and I have written to the Labour Party and my local candidate saying just that - I encourage anyone that supports PR to also write.
Totally agree, write to your local Labour candidate. Innundate them with emails and make PR their priority.
I met with the Labour candidate for my constituency and we discussed electoral reform at length (among other things). He asked me if I thought introducing PR might risk giving Farage more influence to which I replied that the media already give him more influence than he should have and that PR is essential if we are ever to have fair political representation. It's not negotiable.
Overall, I got the impression that Labour is having to be very careful about what they reveal ahead of polling day because of the heavy right wing bias of the UK media. Last night's debate and this morning's headlines appear to support this view.
#GTTO #GE2024
Me too. SNP voter who considers labour and Tory different cheeks of same arse. Only wanted proportional representation from the labour change.
Looks like a repeat of Blair
I will be
It is actually Labour policy to work towards PR. The membership voted for it and everything.
Please note that a parties election manifesto is not the parties entire policy framework. It's just the ones they present for the election campaign.
The move to PR can not be done overnight. Certain tweaks need to occur before it can be implemented.
The second chamber needs sorting out first and just sweeping in PR there would be a disaster. The UK second chamber needs to be fully transformed into a competent professional body who all actually do the job of scrutinizing Commons Bills on technical issues (I know some Lords do but not all of them). Right now there are far too many party political lords to mess up things there if PR is suddenly introduced.
Without the legal safety net of a functioning Second Chamber any sudden changes to the Commons it will just not work either.
Such major electoral reform takes time otherwise it only collapses after a few years at most when people start to forget why we need it.
Honest politics and Tory politics are contradictions in terms. Lying is a necessary part of a Tory’s political equipment, for it is essential for them to conceal their political intentions from the people.
The Tories aren't the only ones lying to the British public, Labour do just as well in that department, if they didn't lie they would never get elected.
Amanda even has the same dress, pretty much, as both a Labour and a Tory voter. Well done her.
Holy cow! Why make it so obvious? I have some grudging respect for clever cheaters but this dumbassery is inexplicable.
Nice BG pic - is Sunak peeling away his human mask during the debate, revealing himself to be a Lizard Person?
He’s just dusting the coke of his nose.
so good to see you back
Reform is a registered company. Would it be wrong if it mislead its customers?
The content of this podcast was interesting as "nearly, always." They water pistol idea had me almost crying with laughter. Thank you.
"Tories used to take pride in their lies" - quote of the video! 😂
Maybe it’s Starmer’s time as a barrister, or he has an extraordinary ability to keep his cool under pressure, but we needed to see some heavy verbal blows landed on a clearly biased debate.
For the record, I respect those who are able to maintain their composure under trying circumstances and pressure. Yesterday was a missed opportunity to get some stinging barbs in the open wounds Sunak has.
Tbf my Local Labour candidate also has a ‘factcheck’ site up - this is a really unpleasant political reality across parties now.
It's not about desire, but ability. These people aren't even capable of running things in their own interests. They are so thick 😂
Many Councillors are also Candidate Selection Committee members.
So glad somebody commented about overseas postal voting to Australia. I went through quite a number of steps to get mine organised ahead of time yet there simply isn't enough time between nominations for candidates and generating the ballots to get them out to overseas and back. There has to be a more immediate way with modern tech. I still don't have mine and the vote is a week away, ridiculous
Tried (brieftly) to arrange my overseas vote, but having proof of residence in a constituency that I left 30 years ago is a bit of an ask!
(The forms focused on very LAST place of U.K. residence, rather than birth or uni or something major one might have proof of)
Oh well,.. Guildford will have to work it out for themselves 😞
I'll have a glass of something nice ready to celebrate if Angela Richardson is "See You Next Tuesday"-punted into the dustbin of history.
Water gun. Deffo.
On the Councillor Llyod Harris point.
HOW ON EARTH DOES LEE ANDERSON PUT IN MORE EFFORT?!!
For Context - Greg Hands has denied it's the "same" Amanda, threatened those that posted it and has had Best For Britain take down their Post on it.
I've read that, simple answer is for the Tory Councillor to make a statement, and so far looks like she hasn't. The photo of Lloyd Harris looks different to the woman on Hands post, but other photos of her look quite similar. If it was an identical dress it would be even more fishy, bit I think they're 2 very similar, not identical.
It doesn't matter if your passport is expired, as long as you still look more or less like the person in the photo. ( According to govt. website ) Just in case that piece of information is of some relevance to somebody.
You can still put your postal vote in the ballot box up until 10pm on election day. Speak tobstaff and explain and they will register it.
According to the Independent, it's not the same Amanda
When will Sunak be on a plane to California..
I think Sunak spent his years at uni being taught how to over ride in a conversation.
Tories contempt for the public, knows no bounds!😂😂😂😂😂
I am thinking if Labour do get a massive majority, i.e. over 450 seats and definitely over 500, that might be a result to make them go 'yeah you know what, this is actually embarrassing, we need a better electoral system, lets start consulting'. Or at least, the media might start talking about it.
FFS she is even wearing the same dress...
They rarely change, which is why they're so smelly !
Electoral reform is second on my list #1 is Leveson 2.
I think you will struggle to get electoral reform without press reform.
There are currently rather a disconcerting amount of No.1 priorities.
@@howardrisby9621 I guess that's where 14 years of the Tories leaves us.
Surely the debate last night was was pro Conservative, the debate itself was very poor the format does not work and as for the questions asked, diabolical. Given the NHS is top of many people's concernes nothing mentioned which would have put major pressure on Sunak.
Instead of joining the Labour group for ER, why not support a party that actually backs ER? I've never voted Lib Dem but if your primary goals are election and media reform then why are you backing Labour? They offer neither.
To the Scott Walton superchat: I appreciate you think that. But no, labour absolutely hasn't been nuanced. Us trans folks have been hunting for any nuance, we are *desperate* for nuance. Any hint that labour won't be more of the same. It just never comes. Instead we get labour agreeing to have conversations about trans policy with rich transphobes. We get them "celebrating" simplification and improvement of the GRC process that actually seems to in some ways be worse. (The wait times for the GIC service are upwards of 5 years in many places. We sort out a *lot* of paperwork in that time, we collect plenty of evidence that we've lived in our gender for at least two years.. so by the time we *finally* get through to the GIC, we get our diagnosis, and we're ready to roll. we've had plenty of time to 'cool off' and think about it. we're ready to go by the time we actually apply for it. However labour's proposal is a 2 year cooling off that starts when you make that GRC application... which needs you to have a gender dysphoria diagnosis in the first place. so you end up waiting 5 years for an appointment before the clock for the GRC even starts. which means... 7 years. 7 years of being denied certain rights because of nothing more than *bureaucracy*.)
this is in addition to pretty much promising to go through with the tory policies on segregating trans people out from the rest of the population in relevant situations. Where is the nuance in generally continuing the same trajectory, but throwing bad bones at the trans people to sedate us? Is the nuance in that they flip flop? or that they don't commit strongly on anything, giving us a shred of hope that things might not get worse for us under them?

My postal vote pack arrived in Sweden from Ealing North on Tuesday (25th) and got sent off back the same day. There's at least a chance that 9 days is enough to get my vote back to Ealing on time.
Hey, I'm in James Murray's constituency too! I've received five election leaflets from him, one from the Green candidate, one from each of the two independents looking for the pro-Palestine vote, one from the RefUK candidate and so far nothing from the Tory (who lives across the other side of London) the LibDem or the SDP. I received and returned my postal vote last Thursday.
Hi Phil - but you can return your completed postal vote to a polling station if necessary. Cheers Clive
Tories talking culture wars is desperation. It's Tories down the pub, after two or three pints, and all the bigots start loosening their belts.
That Electoral Calculus poll is insane.
How abou extending the Misrepresentation Act 1969 to politics?
They've been posting these type of vids here in Scotland, both tories and labour partys , ex snp now voting union party ..
Starmer can keep taxes at same rate if he introduces travel pay for passes and time to go to work for companies which have high profit margins. You may not be able to claw back that tax evasion but you can take something back through pay travel expenses before it gets to the Cayman Islands and bleeds the ecomomy of funds.
A repeat of the last fourteen years is not optional.
Electoral reform is a given.
Apparently not, starmer not committed to proportional representation per Phil earlier.
Labour policy but not Starmer
@@stuartbenzie6115time was it was in Labour's manifesto .... but not in Blair's.
Water gun possible, remote control shock collar would also work.
Both of them
It's a pet, you cruel sod .... not an MP.
I suspect Sunak got advance info on what questions to expect. Whereas Starmer was answering spontaneously (though with many well-worn and cringy repetitions), Sunak was too quick off the mark with his answers. In fact, the show was like a psych session on the standard set of conservative Middle England paranoias - which the BBC prides itself on being the sounding board for. Starmer got a bit wobblier as it went on and his early relaxed smile disappeared. I must admit he did a great job of concealing any leftie leanings he might be surreptitiously harbouring.
Why are Australians able to vote in UK elections?
it was an ex-pat living in Oz
Phil you always end up being Starmer's translator. I'm not sure you're speaking the right language this time regarding what he said about FPTP. He shouldn't need a bloody translator should he, never mind the sodding Ming vase
Labour should introduce a voting rights and electoral integrity act, call it Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act 2025. It could be used to tackle all Tory voter suppression activities, introduce electronic voting, supermarket voting etc require minimum standards of conduct for campaigning (particularly online), give greater funding and statutory powers to electoral commission, including on enforcement. Launching a working group, with ToR and timeline agreed, should happen in first 100 days.
Tories lie, sure, but a fact check has shown the Amanda in the Greg Hands video is not the same as the councilor. Let's be better than the Tories and not jump on bandwagons immediately when a story fits our predisposed beliefs.
she's wearing the same dress, she looks identical, and the Tories have done this many times.... Of Course its her!!
@@swanvictor887 It's literally not her. Just by the eye test you can see the eyes and noses are completely different.
...and Henry Morris - the satirist who first broke the story - has removed all posts about it.
poll says Reform set to win 18 seats - I blame Starmer & the so-called Labour party for being too scared to challenge fascism
I think if Labour had focused on this, Reform and Farage would have gained wider publicity and oxygen to peddle their racist and bigoted ideology. Reform is far more dangerous for the Conservatives who have consistently refused to enter into any serious criticism of Reform because they know the Reform fan base is right wing.
one obsolete poll says this, most polls say between 3-7 seats, possibly none as their support has considerably dropped since farage expressed his undying love for putin
@@joeduffy3309 Their support was low enough before.. Their supporters are very loud but I can't find many people in real life, who are willing to admit to liking Farage and the ones who do aren't good adverts for the party.

Maybe the real problem with last night's debate is that Starmer is just crap
The state of British Politics is so mediocre, so average, so uninspiring.....from all parties. This election has been so depressing and disappointing. It’s aired as a knockabout game show and just entertainment.
