  • The first time Ryan experienced a real steam locomotive. We went on the excursion trip from Hoboken, NJ to Port Jervis, NY and back. It's been his favorite engine ever since. Shot by Gary in October of 1996.

This is from our excursion ride on the C&O 614 Greenbrier in 1996. They did runbys for us at full speed. You actually see me lower the hand held camera because I was startled by the ground shaking, probably 10 ft back from the passing 614. Unbelievable for a train guy like me. Gary

C&O 614 is a beautiful and handsome example of a Lima built "Greenbrier" 4-8-4 type locomotive, I always enjoy seeing footage of locomotive 614 in operation in excursion service. It's a true shame that the 614 is no longer in operational condition as I would really love to see engine 614 make a return to operation again in the future. The C&O "Greenbrier" types were a very attractive class of 4-8-4 and from my personal judgement were some of the best 4-8-4 type engines ever built by the Lima locomotive company.

the 614 and J611 are the only larger steam engines we have seen run, both exceptional and special. Greenbriers are among are favorite engines. Thanks for commenting

That would be nice, but I'd prefer if the 614 did it. 😉
