I have been using Peak Design products now for a couple of years (a free sling came with a camera I bought - its now my only camera packing gear I'll use) and to me this is a company that really gets "functional". Almost like they use the products they make and listen to customer input...
I love the eco system, and I also love that you are not 100% locked into it if you have existing gear you are preferential to. Excellent gear guys.. well done!

Also, this would only be used to complement my travel backpack, and I already have a few ugly duffel bags so I really don’t need another one. When I was younger, I have travelled with duffels. Later on I've switched to a suitcase with wheels, but never was too comfortable with it nor the backpacks for other than daily or touristic purposes. I am thinking of getting back to duffels, mainly because they are usually much lighter than (PD) travel backpacks.
This duffel looks realy nice, the only thing I dislike about its aesthetics is, that it is way too wide. It should not be imo
designed for the photography cubes in mind and should be taller instead. Looks weird when carrying over the shoulder and what I really hate is often suggested vertical carry-on, which ruins the overal aesthetics even more ...
Going to get it anyway, well, because that's what a PD addict usually does :-)

I can imagine the magnets cut around your shoulders carrying full gear. Wider size of straps on shoulder height (like the longer single shoulder strap) should divide the weight, making it more comfortable to use the duffel in backpack mode.

@@CyberMew No issues at all, I would say that the "backpack mode" can be a little uncomfortable, but its a super nice feature to have on trips where you want to carry lots of stuff as a duffle but then want to day trip around and need to carry some random stuff but not everything. The leather on the handles is an okay "small cushion" and maybe the magnets on the handles weren't as strong as I'd like. But overall, it gets an A+ from me.

  • @cyrielle_
    @cyrielle_ Před 4 lety +3

Those handles don't look practical at all ( not strong magnet, and the backpack option looks uncomfortable). BUT... Would it be possible to purchase a 2nd shoulder strap and use the 2 instead of the regular handles as a backpack option ?
I'd consider to purchase this duffle as a main carry-on bag ( with a small packable day-pack inside), but I want the possibility to wear it as a backpack ( so I'm able to carry it on a motorbike ride for example). As a 5.4 feet woman, I would not carry it as a backpack as it's shown here, for more than 5 min...
The handles seem only interesting if you use the duffle as a sport bag or a weekend bag when you use you car...

  • @jen.h

Apologies if this had already been asked, but can someone explain how the "Hand straps double as luggage pass-through for roller bag carry"? Do they, specifically, mean the grab handles on the sides of the bag? I can't imagine the MAIN hand straps to be luggage pass-through compatible... the bag and luggage would just fall over from the weight! This feature isn't demonstrated or explained from any videos I've watched from PD or CZcams reviews.

Lately, I’ve been using a decently big backpack and a compressible duffel. The duffel folds up into a pouch about the size of 4 CD cases, but you can unfold it and it’ll fit under an airplane seat without counting as extra luggage. It’s light, which is great because my PD Everyday backpack (30L, V1) is a bit heavy, so I can also use the duffel as a day-pack.

  • @tvfd-thevirtualflightdispa978

PD, you really need to get real. First, I LOVE your gear. Both of these bags are awesome. Either of them, individually, are excellent single bag carry. However, it is completely impractical to carry a backpack that may weigh up to 30 lbs and a duffel which will weigh up to 30lbs. Now, Lawrence can probably pull that off, but if, like me, I'm not as big and strong as Lawrence, it is unrealistic to expect one person to carry both bags together. A more practical way to operate is one of the bags (either the duffel with a smaller backpack, say 10L like the, wait for it...the PD Sling bag (which I own, btw)..or the travel backpack and the...wait for it.. 10L sling bag to go under the seat.
I fly a LOT (work for an airline) and almost always carry my camera gear with me. I almost never check a bag (there are some exceptions) because I never know if I'm getting on the plane. The TB and the 10L together will get you on the plane no problem (unless you buy basic economy, in which case, you will pay for both checked and carry on...and probably a center seat and checking your carry on...but I digress).
I also must carry a CPAP machine and a full pharmacy. My solution? The PD wash pouch can carry the 16 medications that I have to carry with me. The two bag carry on I use requires a wheeled underseat bag (unfortunately not PD, but a very excellent non PD product). I can get on with both and because I have both the small and medium cubes, I can adapt my carry as needed. The 10L sling goes in the outer pocket of the PD TB and when I get to my destination, I can carry everything on wheels and if necessary, I can hand carry the wheeled bag (as it does not more than 15 lbs full) quite easily. So what do I use for a Dopp kit? An old airline amenity bag that I can stuff a corner of anything.
Why do I got into such length? The PD Travel System is VERY adaptable, and I utilize as many of your products as possible (the new tripod that is coming to me from PD will solve my tripod carry). The one thing I cannot advocate or find realistic is a carry of both the TB and the Duffel together. It will not be possible to carry on both. The 10L sling does fit under the seat, so that is very doable, but not the two big bags. If you check the duffel and carry on the TB, it will suck for you if you arrive with one and not the other and if they do arrive, it will suck more to carry them. Trust me, I've done it before and it just doesn’t work very well.
This is not to say that you should not buy both bags. Not at all. Just don't carry both of them.
So, to everyone reading, you really need to buy PD gear because it is awesome stuff. It travels very well and solves a lot of problems if you, like me, carry my gear around. It can almost do everything. Now, if you designed a wheeled bag underseat convertible backpack...well, isn't that an idea?
    My best to you all!!

Because these bags aren’t designed to be primarily dedicated camera bags. They are bags designed to change based on what you need them to do. If you had to do some business photography today and had to carry your gear in a neatly organized fashion and had a trip overseas the next day, you could have your bag loaded out for your shoot and by the time you got back to your studio at the end of the day, all your clothes and traveling essentials would be waiting prepacked in your packing cubes that you would swap out in 30 seconds or less. It’s a more efficient way you use a bag. You don’t need to buy a dedicated camera bag and a dedicated traveling bag when you just need the one without much compromise on functionality.
