I have made it a habit to listen to audio books as I do chores around the house and while doing my cleaning jobs. The jobs don't face me as much now since I discovered the joy of this. I always thought old school, must hold a book under the candle, torch pressure lamp or if one is fortunate a reading light under a jumbo settee as I have seen it in films. But here I am to say give me my blue tooth and the long list of gifted craftspeople that are able to organise and follow their thoughts thru the adventure, pen it down and share their experiences even when filled with the human ordeal. Take me with and that job now becomes bliss. Thank you for sharing. I feel I am understanding more why we are the way we are. Revenge, love, favours, relationships, sorrow, death friendship are as easy as abc. Never judge the book by the cover. There is always more to it than ones self created image of understanding of what is.
The author was a man of his time. He misunderstood the natives spiritual concepts with his own Christianity. However he was masterful in describing the human condition. Wonderful storytelling that I thoroughly enjoyed.
He mentioned at the beginning that Jaspers loved smoking his pipe more then supper. And that, when short on tobacco he would smoke his tea instead of drink it.
I find it quite believable, having read man a memoir. I had not believed such negative thoughts prior, always defending the “savages”. It’s up to the reader to decide.

Surised by the portrayal of the indigenous man as the greedy desacrtor of his environment.
While awful to believe, they are of man, and man is pretty awful in tribes. Look at politics and the internet today its the same.

Stalwart sons and blooming daughters.

Pretty good story. I loved the scenes of them around the campfire. I didn't enjoy all the Jesus christian propaganda bs but other then that. Was good.
Sounds like you are not a believer
