Bro?!? 😂😂
😂😂
As a child, I remember this film with Spencer Tracy as the old man. I cried my eyes out. I think I was about 12 years old. I Love this story. I love listening to it again, it reminds me of a time the whole family sat around the radio.
“The old man had taught the boy to fish, the the boy loved him.” So nice
NAMBLA
The story as a child set me up later in life to do some crazy things around the world in endurance etc. Thank you
Thank you so much for uploading this book. I've read it many times, but Charlton Heston has a way of making the story come alive.
I grew up going to that town where the story takes place. I've seen men like this going out to fish in those small boats for days. I can also imagine Hemingway walking through that place being inspired to write this book.
The Old Man was far from being beat. His fellow fishermen saw the size of the fish. He was everything the boy knew he was. He would never have to prove his self again.
I literally could not stop listening to this book.
And the best part of all, the boy can now go fishing with him again
I was in suspense every minute he was out to sea fishing.
True but he needed the money from the fish. Will his fame alone be able to provide a meal?
( moi aussi )
Thank you Charleston Heston, you have a wonderful voice, and made the story real
Ive listened to this so many times and it never gets old. One of my favorite books
I can remember as a young person probably in grade school the teacher reads this book and I've never heard from it again and I found this and I'm pleasantly listening brings back old memories
Beautiful voice
I was suppose to fall asleep
No chance
Beautiful read ❤
Am old school boy
Not great reading
But excellent listen
Just love it always
Thanks tube ❤
Always
First introduction to Hemingway’s writing style was his short story Indian Camp, about a Native American woman in labour but experiencing difficulties with giving birth. His often laconic, factual descriptions have something of the documentary about them, which says less but allows much room for interpretation of the unwritten and implied. Allied to Heston’s wonderful reading, this is a spellbinding story of an old fisherman’s struggle to survive using his craft and wits to the utmost.
Well said!
The Nick Adams stories are some of the most affecting in Hemingway's canon for sure.
Indian camp I must check that one out thank you
Epic story telling!
I enjoyed this very much over Labor Day weekend 2023
Thank you Mr Hemingway, Mr Heston and YT channel owner.
Blessings and Aloha
The old man weathered resilent, calculated, humble and with unrelentless inner strength and prowess. His intuition won him the prize that had eluded him for years because he never gave up. A great life lesson slow and steady wins. The boy was most kind and gracious he knew the Old Man was his greatest teacher. True fishermen the strongest of all men.
Love it. The best E.H. book, relatable by anyone that's been "in over their head."
I have been in pain for the past few days. The gym is sometimes unkind to my old back. 😊was a real pleasure to lie here on the couch in the late of the night listening to Heston’s voice narrating this great old story. I like his voice. His politics, not so much.
One of the best books, read by the best!❤
I know I read this in school, but I don’t remember anything about it. I can only blame that on being an uncultured clout of a teenager.
What an amazing book! And narrated by Moses!!!!
I feel the same way … I’ve read it a few times since high school, however Charlton narrating it brought it to life❤❤🎉
Maybe I am wrong, but I think a teenager might not have that kind of life experience which would make him fully appreciate this novel. I had to read it as a teen because of school and I remember not understanding at that time why this novel was considered so great. More than twentyfive years later, with more experience in my baggage, I get it now.
Charleston Heston had a security clearance as high as the US president. He narrated the training films for the armed forces, and knew all the classified information about aircraft, munitions, etc. His voice is a national treasure.
No. You're thinking of John Waynesboro.
Charleston South Carolina
Hemingway wrote Heston reads does it get better than this? My GOD thank YOU for these men…
Im 60 ish and I've got the time to get a refresher, thank for putting this out.
Read this with my son when he was about ten yrs of age. Hearing it read to me now was like 20 years of monastecism and I learned much about myself.
I bought the book and then found this audio. So I followed along in the book with Mr. Heston reading. It was absolutely great.
That sounds lovely!
This is my favorite version of this reading. Hemingway was never greater than when he wrote this. So poignant it aches in my fingertips and the soles of my feet. Like slipping or falling from a height, unexpectedly. I hope to be able to look without flinching one day. To acknowledge the world in such a bright light of reality, with empathy but, not pity. I may be an old woman, then.
T
That’s deep bruh
The older the better
This helps so much! Procrastinated reading the book, so listening to this was great!
same here omg 😂
Somehow someone else reading doesn't make my mind wander off 3 words into the first sentence
Or maybe it does, but it doesn't make the book take longer this way!
@@Yogsoggeth I normally hate using audiobooks, but this one on 1.25x is pretty good
@ryan_1521 i agree
I love the voice of Charlton Heston.
I am totally in awe of how Charleston Heston "performed" while reading this Hemmingway classic! I won't even complain about the break where he obviously needed to recover from the first half with vigor! As a former minor league baseball player, I was jolyed with excitement about the old man's love for the game and Joe Dimaggio). Thank you fir this one I did not have assigned back in school (mid '70's)
Finally got to listen to this amazing classic. Thank you.
One of my favorite story's! Carlton Heston is the perfect reader for the Old Man and the Sea. I think the biblical Moses must have been a man much like Mr. Heston, as portrayed in the movie's. ☺ Thanks for sharing this tale with us. I have a collection of Hemingway literature.

When I relocated to south florida in 1986, this was the first book i sat in the sand and read. Love this audio version.
This is the ultimate, thank you for posting it
Beautifully read by Charlton Heston
There was a lot of allegory here -Hemingway had not had a best seller in quite some time. Many critics had written him off (just as the old man had not caught a fish)
The Old Man and the Sea was his comeback book!
Def see what you mean.
I love playing this to help me fall asleep. I fell in love with this book in middle school
O
What a treat, Charlton Heston had such a distinctive voice, perfect for Narration.
This book holds a special place in my heart. It was the first book my parents bought for me as a kid in Puerto Rico.
Such a masterful reading by Heston, he really did this timeless classic justice. Reading the book is one thing, listening is another. Lured me in and never let go.
This story reminds me of hard work by an oldman . Life is a continual struggle of effort even though it seems like nothing .
I met Heston in Arizona at his book signing and shook his hand! So beloved, talented,he was Moses in 1960s the Bible
Yes he's Amazing ❤
This novel is so epic that even Moses recorded a narration.
Lol!!! 😆😆😆😆
Comment of the year ❤- laughed out loud fr 😊
Ha!
Bruh so true
What a voice!!!! This was a great actor.
Listened to this multiple times back in the 90s. Heston's voice IS this story to me now. "I wish the boy was here."
Hello fellow high schoolers
Graduated in the 80s. Love fishing.
Heyyyy

Grown ass man here. Still enjoy reading. This is just as easy sitting on a mower all day.
When I was a young boy I fought my friend on the idea of whether audiobooks were as effective as reading the words. He swore that putting in the work to read was more effective but was so tired that his grade suffered and I made my point. Fishing is a lot like that. Smarter not harder.
We speed-reading assigned summer reading at 2x speed with this one 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Same here.
Reminds me of the time my oldest son Chazz and I went ocean-going out of MorroBay,Ca.
I read this when I was a child. It never gets old.
This was pure gold!
Hemingway had plenty of experience of big game fishing to be able to write this wonderful explanation of the fight for life of a big fish.
Not gonna b able to fall asleep to this--too exciting!!
3 times over the course of my life, I have had a very similar dream. I am a fisherman.
Reminds me of my father. I'm crying now! Bigboysdont cry I do!
Thank you for the audiobook this is my second time listening to the audio book and one-time reading the book such a good book .
I remember my teacher Mr. Vieira reading this to me in fourth grade. And then again in middle school I check this book out in the library.💜🥺
"He was too simple to wonder when he had attained humility, but he knew he had attained it..."
Wow. This man’s voice is the most relaxing thing I’ve ever heard
Extraordinary narration, Heston is an admirable actor
Exquisitely read. Thank you.
I am sooo glad a stumbled upon and clicked this precious story.
Although I'm only 20mins in, I am already in love with this story (The narrators story telling voice/style just adds ❤)
THANKYOU VERY MUCH.
I just adore the old man already,
“Man was not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”
-Ernest Hemingway
Boy oh boy I used to say my looked like Mr. Heston and watched many of his amazing films, what a great book too ooh think I'll drift off to this one cheers
Beautiful reading voice. Splendid book.
Outstanding narration, excellent work, thank you, sir.
Absolutely brilliant. Ben- Hur is my favorite movie and Charlton Heston is a big reason.
Excellent! Very exciting, very enjoyable. Thank you
Thank you for providing this.
It helps me a lot in studying English. The voice is excellent, so the more I listen to it, the more I become immersed in the work.
I grew up listening to this on cassette tapes. I’m delighted to find it here!
🦈 He went out to far but, what an adventure! He is so strong.
I'll listen to Charlton Heston read me a story when they pry this book from my cold dead hands.
Caught my first yellow fin tuna while listening to this!!! Thanks old man
I love this book so much ❤

Every time I watch the movie The Equalizer Robert McCall reads this book in the restaurant. I am listening to this book on the phone in the car. I must admit this book is a masterpiece
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 🤠 Dexter Lombardo
I remember reading this, Tortilla Flat, and Lord of the Flies back in Jr high and doing book reports on them. Good stuff. 👏🏽👍
This is obviously where Alan Moore got his imagery for the pirate story on Watchmen. No matter how long I live, I'll never stop finding new depth in the graphic novel.
What a great story
Life is a bitch. In the end it kills you but a man can die heroically.
Great audio thanks
Surprised this runs over two hours. I don’t remember it taking me more than twenty-five minutes as a high school sophomore.
Hemingway’s early stuff was grand.
Too many drinks, too many wives - as he was told - “he didn’t have to marry every one he ***”
great narration
i’m out sick the day my class started this so i haven’t got a book yet :( thank you pal
Sick ass book bruh
I loved this book as a kid .... and 'The Deep'
My book talk is due tomorrow so thanks for this audiobook.
The Old Man, always dreamed about the young lions on the beach on the gold sands of Africa 🏝️💔♾️ 13:41

Welcome 09WB. I'm also very grateful as well for being able to listen to this great story. :)
Oh I thought he was actually thanking his father 😂😂😂
One of my favourite 😍
I really like the voice on here and how the person reads it you’re very good actor thank you I really like it and I watch a lot of CZcams and this really is one of the best ones
I love Charleston Hestons voice, he was an amazing actor! Are there anymore books read by him?
Spencer Tracey never leaves my mind….🥺
Charlton Heston’s voice is a SUPER 27:32 bonus.
I had a creative writing course in college. One of the tools for improving your writing skills by reading The Classics. I read this Hemmingway classic, Of mice and men etc. And my writing did improve. It's not that you copy a single aspect of what I'd read. Why it works is beyond me. Believe it or not Tarzan of The Apes was an excellent read. Even though I knew the story well the writing style was addictive. It flowed like prose, rhythmic and smoothe.
Wonderful story!😉🤔
Sehr gutes Audio, es wird mir auf jeden Fall bei meinem Englischtest helfen.
This is epic!
Beautiful!!
