I make my own as well and have learned a few things to make them better. I use acetone on a rag and wipe the lettering off the pvc so you have a clean finish. I also use closed eye hooks and drill through the pvc and attach with a locking washer and nut so you never have to worry about stripping the plastic pvc. I use spring clips to attach my flag so I can change the flag out to other flags if I want. I always fly old glory but have another setup for other flags.

It swivels on post, should make wrapping itself up difficult. But I imagine crazy wind would cause it to wrap.
