- Today i'm discussing why Fred and George never notice Peter Pettigrew on the Marauders Map or in bed with Ron. Because my channel is dedicated to Harry Potter, i love answering the most frequently asked Harry Potter questions in video form to what i believe could be the truth. crookshanks was lily and James cat because She managed to recognise sirius and Peter in the animagus forms and there is alot of other reason to back this up but idk where i saw it on the internet lol
no .she didn't recognize siririus at first and only after a while sirius had covinced her and you would think she recognised him or something and anyways if crookshanks was lily and james' cat wouldnt sirius have mentioned it somewhere

So......... The Marauders Map CANNOT see animagi and Peter Pettigrew was on human form for a bit while Harry saw him
The marauders map was made like that incase the map was discovered. I assume they made it so that animagi would not show up because they were usually transformed when acting out. So, whenever peter was scabbers, he didn't show up on the map. That's why he disappeared when harry was looking at the map in poa.
Hermione Granger that makes sense as well but my only question is why in the heck Peter would be in human form in a school where numerous people would recognize him! Even at night we know that staff wander around. I really like this idea and it might be true but I think that is just ridiculous of him (not that he is a very sane person to start out with)
Animagi can be seen on the map no? I know this is represented in the movie (visually better than the book) but for example, he was right next to him and still couldn't see him. It's because he was a rat at the time.
the map CAN see animagi. lupin came into the shack saying that he saw Pettigrew on the map. obviously he was a rat at the time so yeah
but lupin saw him on the map while sirius was dragging ron(with scabbers obviously)towards the whomping willow and mind you peter was still transformed
I have a theory. How come Harry didn't talk parslmouth (sorry if I spelt that wrong) to Nagini to get on his side or something?

Down in the chamber of secrets Tom Riddle made the basilisk not obey Harry so Voldemort probably did that
Harry would not have been able to get Nagini on his side as she is not just any snake, she is a horcrux, a part of voldermort soul lives in her. Harry was unable to kill voldermort until Nagini was destroyed
Nagini could have been controlled by voldemort as even Dumbledore said that nagini behaved in an unusual manner and remember nagini is voldemort's pet
Probably because Nagini was super loyal to Voldemort. Also, she may have figured out that to beat Voldemort, Harry had to kill her.

this is very true fam, maybe they didn't notice because the didn't know that peter was an animagus (as he was unregistered) but I suppose that defeats the purpose of being able to see everyone. This is if they payed attention.

Something that came to my mind as I was watching this was that by the time Ron had gotten to school with Fred and George they would have already known the map very well by then. They were, I think correct me if I’m wrong, in their third year by the time Ron came into the picture, so by that time they probably knew the map pretty well having two whole years with it. So yeah, that’s my thoughts on it.
Not sure they had two whole years, to memorize the map. But yeah George did say "Anyway, we know it by heart,". Third 3 book chapter 10 The Marauder's Map page 191.

could you please tell me the reason why voldemort chose to go after harry instead of neville because the book doesnt explain it very well
The book explains it perfectly.
Voldemort himself is a half-blood. Lily was a mud-blood and therefore, even though Harry inherited the Potter family line, Harry was perceived to be a half-blood also.
Essentially, subconsciously, Voldemort believed that his fellow half-blood was more likely to be a threat then the pure blood line. This made Voldemort decide that Harry was the more dangerous of the targets and therefore more likely to cause him problems in the future.
The Potter family line were also well known sympathizers with muggles and mud-bloods. On the other hand whilst the Longbottom tree did not have anything against this, at this point if I am not mistaken, they also were proud of their pure-blood heritage and therefore Voldemort was probably under the belief that it would be possible to turn them to his side down the track.

Do the theory that Harry drank Felix Felicis before the Battle of Hogwarts (that Aberforth put it in the drinks that he gave Harry, Ron and Hermione)! I have my opinion on it but I want to see yours! I don't know, because with the sorting hat you can only be sorted into one house. You can be a Slytherin or Gryffindor and still be Slytherin/Gryffindor-y. I'm a Slytherin, but still quite Ravenclaw-ish.

You get an idea how the map works and it's simple. You can view each floor separately and it only shows whose on that floor. Harry did this when he was watching Ginny move about Hogwarts while he was hiding in the forest. So the only explanation is that Fred and George just never cared to look for Ron.

1) Fred and George found the map in their first year, Ron and Harry first arrived to Hogwarts when they were in their third year, by then they had already memorized all the secrets the map reveals and likeoy hardly used it anymore
2) We don't know how often scanners actually slept in the same bed as Ron or was in his pocket, it can't have been all the time, making finding them together even less likely

Buckbeak gets back to Hagrid and is now called Featherwing as a disguise. Dumbledore says so in "Half-blood prince"

I think by the time Ron came to Hogwarts the twins were not using the map that much anymore. They knew most of the secret passagesways by then thus why use it.
I think the mauraders map goes by what floor it's on so if Fred & George were on the 3rd floor it would show who's on the 3rd floor and than if they went on the 5th floor than it shows who's on the 5th floor. Does this make sense?! I hope it does.

Yeah, I've been saying about exactly the same! Only that they told Harry they knew map well enough not to need it anymore. So I think they actually studied it more - but yeah, they weren't that interested about Ron's actions.

so i dont have the book to check but i dont remmeber lupin saying he checked the map to see peter just the kids.. isnt him saying he saw peter on the map only in the movies?
Alot of people overlook the fact that Pettigrew is a Marauder of the map. Maybe he is an integral part of the map in that he is a soul in which the map will not be able to place specifically his location because Pettigrew is known to have stayed hidden from people with close connections with Remus and Sirius.
Another theory is that the map only shows you what you need. F and G don't need Pettigrew when they have the map, which is why when they gave it to Harry during the 1st trip to Hogsmeade, thry explain that Filch shows up there alot.
Just my thoughts.
but think about the first time they ever found that map (In their first year) when Percy had that rat in his bed. The first time they would have gotten the map they would definitely have looked at their family members simply because they're amazed at it. They would have probably have looked everywhere on the map and looked at all the names they knew. So then the question becomes, why did they never question why *Percy* was in bed with a random man.
Or perhaps they did notice and that's part of the reason they pick on Percy so much more than the rest of their siblings.
Furthermore, wasn't Peter Pettigrew quite a famous name at that time - didn't most people know the name because he tried to stop "Mass murderer Serious Black" after Lily and James' death. So surely Fred and George would have at least heard the name in passing, and seeing it on a map that showed the school would have peeked their interest - perhaps they'll have seen Peater running around the corridors or something. And as the map has separate pages for the different floors of the castle, they couldn't have just thought that Peter was underneath Ron/Percy.
So there is still a plot hole here no matter with it's with Ron or Percy.
YO Bakeey the map shows only people that the user wants to see not everybody.
For example: in the deathly hallows harry wants to see were Ginny, and that as well as nevell and the group.
You should watch Dean's theory on Harry Potter Folklore of how the map works. I think it makes the most sense for a number of reasons including the Pettigrew/Scabbers problem, and the movies help to confirm his theory b/c the map user sees a select few people, all of whom are important to the plot, instead of seeing a jumbled mess of hundreds of names all at once. Check out Dean's theory, and sorry but I'm too lazy to link it.
Simple. Petigrew didn’t replace Scabbers until their visit to Egypt between books two and three.
When they gave Potter the marauders map they said they don’t really use it any more because they already memorized it.
