Professor Severus Snape I mean I miss you 😭
I like Snape because he was bullied all his life, he had to watch his best friend being killed, he had to fight on both sides in the wizarding world, he had to see the son of the man who bullied him every day of his life and he was killed by a snake.
he wasn't bullied his whole life, yes he was bullied by James but do you really think all the time at hogwarts, if so he wouldn't have time to invent potions and the marauders to ne animagus. And in the last year of hogwarts James actually apolized
He was a bully. Worst ever thing a teacher can do is to bully students. He was partial and favoured Slytherins. James Potter was not a one side bully. Both found opportunity to trouble each other.
Honestly, you need to read the story again if you have the falsr notion that Snape was bullied all his life.

Alice Thomas he died do to blood loss because nagini slashed his neck because in the scene were he dies harry is holding snapes neck were it is bleeding because if the venom of nagini was in his bloodstream he would of killed him much quicker and if nagini killed him how would Harry get his memories .
snape didn't expect to die. in the movies (depends on how "canon" you consider them) he clearly looks shocked and betrayed when Voldemort kills him. plus if you think that he wanted Lily to be saved, and didn't care is James and Harry died, you realised just how selfish he was. he was also close enough to Voldy to know the death eaters. so he would of known that Sirius was innocent, but let him go to Azkaban because he was bullied.

@@sukiwah this quote makes me feel like JKR got her own books wrong... he didn't die to save the wizarding world, didn't sacrifice himself to voldemort like Harry did, his death was a mere coincidence, voldemort just killed him because he wanted the Elder wand and Snape didn't expect that and I think he never actually meant to die in that battle, especially that he had all the necessary information, which he managed to pass to Harry only (again) by a lucky coincidence, he wouldn't sacrifice his life for Hogwarts, he didn't care about anyone but himself and his own twisted vision of Lily, that's just my opinion of course ;)

@@irisblue7031 He DID sacriface himself to Voldemorts. Rowling said that Snape was able to tell Voldie that he wasn't real owner of elder wand, But he DIDN'T and so he gave chance to harry to defeat Voldie in 1 vs 1.
My thoughts with Snape:
First couple of movies- he’s literally the best character
When he killed Dumbledore- I couldn’t hate him but I felt betrayed
Deathly hallows pt 2- after his memories were shown and he had to kill Dumbledore he returned to being my favourite character

I often liken Snape to Kreacher. They are a product of their environment. Both had horrible pasts, both found someone the loved (Lily and Regulus), both lost that person and both were bitter towards others. I'm not making excuses for Snape's behaviour but there's never smoke without fire. He didn't deserve the childhood he got. I, like JK, see him as grey. He's not good nor is he evil. If I meant him in real life I'd punch him in the face but as a character, he is a superb journey to follow.

Severus Snape's story makes me cry. I love Snape so much, he is one of my top three favourite characters. Whenever I reread the books or rewatch the movies from the start, I have to admit that I feel annoyed with him, bullying Harry and everything. But when I reach the memories scene, I just break down and I realise once again what an amazing person he is. He risked his life every single day (I don't even want to think what would have happened if Voldemort had found out) to save someone who he both hated but loved so dearly. Even though he killed Dumbledore, Dumbledore told him to. Dumbledore knew that the only he would really be trust was for that to happen. So Snape killed the one person who trusted him, to show that he was to be trusted. Another part I remember is the scene where Snape and Voldemort are in the Shrieking Shack, and Snape is almost begging Voldemort to go and get Harry, saying he will get him to be killed, but it is actually to tell him what had been happening all along. Voldemort was angry with him, but Snape persisted, but then was killed for the Elder Wand. Snape also knew that Harry was the Wand's rightful owner, but didn't say anything and therefore died to save Harry. His story is so inspiring and beautiful. I believe that Snape is a good person who lived a bad life. Love your videos Sophie, this one was amazing because I loved hearing how you really feel about Snape. ALWAYS💕💕💕💚💚✨✨✨❤❤❤❤xxxx
Someone should make a movie where the trio's children find out Snape survived Nagini and he came back as the Hogwarts Headmaster....even if we need a new Snape. I love Snape, even his book version!!!

I've always thought Snape was one of the most interesting and complex characters in the series, but I still don't like him. I appreciate him and the way he influenced the series as a whole, but he did so many horrible things to people, including his students, that I just can't forgive him for. I do agree with you that Alan portraying him, and the way Snape was shown in the movies definitely influenced some people's perception of him. I appreciate very much that JKR was able to come up with so many characters that felt so real and didn't fall into tropes; Snape, along with many others are such multi-faceted characters that it's almost impossible to pin down exactly who they are, which is much more compelling to an audience than flat, predictable characters. Though I'm not a fan of Snape, Harry Potter is an /incredibly/ character driven series, and without him, it just wouldn't have been the same.
Hey, this is a little late, actually this is really really late, but I was just re watching the Harry Potter movies. My guess is that you haven’t watched them yet, since they show a lot more detail into the personality of snape. He is a good person all along, and although some of his methods of teaching are not the best, he is very disciplined and was bullied by James potter for a good portion of his childhood. This is why he is not fond of Harry. You should also know if you watched order of the Phoenix dumbledore asked snape to kill him by saying “please” when all the other death eaters were around him. This was probably to save Draco from basically becoming a death eater, but it could also mean other things. Snape is probably the most loyal person to dumbledore after he changed his ways of being a death eater. So I hope you have read all of this and appreciate him more now because he protected Harry in so many parts of the movie, even though you may not have realized it.

This video is amazing! Snape is my favorite character and you did a great job of explaining just why he is so amazing. He is complex. He cannot be defined by good or bad like many other character. He is vindictive and stuck in the past but just as he cannot let go of his childhood hatred of James he can't let go of his love for Lily either and that's his redeeming quality. Not to mention the fact that the man can be poetic when he wants to be ("dark arts many, varied, ever-changing and eternal" "the softly simmering cauldron with its shimmering fumes".

U rock words dnt describe how I feel towards Snape. he's a great iconic actor !!! The sence whear Harry Potter as a 15 month old baby ; with watery eyes while seeing Snape holding onto Lilley while cryng. That right there he show compassion for even baby Harry felt it as well just sitting in the crib. I cried feeling emplthie for Snape & Harry. He's a remarkable person,actor' seeing that utube sence also the connection between the Snape & Harry right b4 he died being bitten by you know who not b named. He was Chosen to use the doe patronis ; in Albuse Dumbeldorf's office. It's like Snape took Harry under his wing ; to me he's been there for Harry's time of need. Snape is a wonderful acotr,person also just by being there when Harry Potter needed him the most. Harry's right Snape is & always been a bravest, compassionate, strong person & actor. And I believe that I'm a Snape person as well too.
Snape stepped over Jame's body as if he where nothing, ignored the screaming baby behind him (that Voldemort or the death eaters could come back for at any time, since they didn't know Voldy had "died") and cradled the dead body of the woman he had continued to lust after even after she was married with a child. Snape made fun of Tonks when her Patronus changed to reflect Remus's even though his had been the same as Lily's for over a decade. and where, in the series, was Snape there when Harry needed him? the only way Snape was there when Harry needed him was to push him down and make him feel worse.

I enjoyed this video! It's refreshing to see someone talking both sides, and not just saying "but he loved Lily!" as a be-all-end-all. Snape is a really interesting character, he's just not the best person. And it doesn't do him justice to say he's good or bad, Rowling herself has said that he's all grey. This was a very good video that sort of explored if not all, at least most of his sides.
I do want to point out that Snape was already friends with the death eaters by the time he and Lily fell apart, though we don't really know how long he'd been hanging out with them, and him being so into the dark arts already was one of the reasons they fell apart (we see in the chapter "Snape's Worst Memory" that he's already invented Sectumsempra).
I personally don't like Snape much, but he is very interesting, and he does have good parts, even if they are a little buried.
As long as I can remember I was ALWAYS love with Snape and nothing will ever change that.

Good video, I can imagine how hard it must have been to put all the thoughts on Severus into a single video, I would ramble for hours :) Anyhow, I am a big Snape's fan since I was very little (from book one, when I found out he was saving Harry for the whole time, my 6 year old brain told me he's not a bad guy and I just stuck with that during the whole book journey and until now). Anyhow, I wanted to point out one part you did not mention which was a huge dealbreaker for me. The moment in book 4 when Fudge was not believing that Voldy is back and Severus just went for it and showed him his Dark Mark. That was an act of bravery (he could have been arrested for that) and from that moment I was sure he is a good one. I do not actually even mind he was with Voldemort for the first part - he was bullied hard and he was I think an emotional person (he learned to hide that just later in life) so he naturaly wanted to be with somebody who apperciated him and valued him. I might do the same being in his boots. And this emotional side of him was the reason he was nasty to Harry and his friends.

i absoltuely loved snape through the first four films and cherished every scene he had. but then order of the phoenix happened and he brought that character to a whole new level. those scenes about the oclumency brilliant and you learn his backstory. and i still think to this day alan rickman should have been oscar nominated for his heartbreaking performance in deathly hallows part 2.

as a kid I didn't like him, but as I've got older I've been able to understand why is was the way he was and able to empathise with him as parts of his story I can understand how he feels (no friends and bullied) and that he was incredibly brave as being a double agent was putting himself in great risk

Snape is a very intriguing character, and honestly *cough* Lily should have married Snape *cough* I think on of the reasons I like him so much is because he actually reminds me a lot of myself, but the moment in the books and in the movies that was really eye opening for me about Snape was when he killed Dumbledore. I think that part often makes people angry with him, but honestly I was just so proud of him. Like don't hate me guys, but he put his all into this very questionable out come, knowing how it would reflect on him to others, knowing some people may never understand, all for hope of a better life for the Wizarding World. At that point I think he put faith in Harry to see this through, he trusted Dumbledore was right when he said Snape had to kill him, and he was ready to be the one to actually start the Wizarding War.Snape had a massive role in Harry Potter that a lot of people just over look and don't understand, and like you, I would love a whole movie of Snape. He might not have been the nicest, but he sarcrificed and lost the most.

Draco Malfoy, the boy who had no choice, definitely did deserve redemption (like you said).
Snape had a choice. He took out all his pent up anger for James on Harry before even getting to know him, and so Harry hated him. They could've been _so_ close (well, as close as teachers and students can get), and Snape when it ruined everything because Harry looked like his childhood bully.
Snape definitely wasn't evil, but he was far from being a good person.

I know it's an old video, but I just found it. I love Snape, both book and movie version. Snape is the only death I cried about in the book form. I cried about Dobby in the movie, but I lost it when Snape died. I felt like his character progression is the most complex out of all of them. I can identify with someone who never felt like they fit in with the groups around them and I too have made mistakes that I desperately want to take back. While he's certainly not snow white innocent, I firmly believe that he learned from his mistake after Lilly died. I'm not sure this is a connection I would have made if I was still a child, but I think that's the magic of Harry Potter, there are lessons even for adults.

When I first started watching the films, when I was younger, I didn't really like him. However, when I read the books I found his character very intriguing, even when I was younger. I remember reading The Philosopher's Stone and thinking to myself, "There is no way Snape wants the stone just for eternal life, riches, etc. There HAS to be a bigger reason!". And from then on, while I was reading the other books, I still found his character very intriguing. I was about ten, when I didn't mind Snape being in the films, and as I grew older I kind of developed a love for Snape, (as I did with a lot of the characters😂). Till this day, he still intrigues me very much! AND BTW I totally agree with you Sophie! There should definitely be a Snape Movie (or maybe even book:)!

I think snape is not necessarily a bad guy, but he is kind of troubled due to past issues in his life. And that can make him do some bad things. But deep down, he's a good guy.

I think the reason why Snape loved Lily so much is because she was the first person he met that liked him and didn't judge him because of his looks like everyone else did.
I love Snape and I feel sorry 4 him because he was bullied for years and it pushed him over the edge to make him a bit bad.
