With its cool sounds that you would immediately recognize, if you are familiar with different aircrafts. It's distinct design also make this aircraft one of kind & well thought of by the engineers from Piaggio group. Looking forward for the evolution of this cool aircraft.
This where the Aprilia RS-Gp prototype MotoGP bike has been derived all along. No wonder the engineers of #Aprilia kept this design eventhough everyone have already altered theirs. They know this design will work like what their mother company Piaggio did. 👏

I was lucky to see one of these up close and got to chat with the pilots. Really cool design. Apparently one of the advantages the engine/prop placement is that since you're down by the skinny end of the fuselage, you can place the engines closer to the centerline, reducing asymmetric thrust in an engine-out situation.
Also the rear engines mean most of the noise is behind you.. it really is very quiet inside.

We get regular visits from one of these at Blackbushe (I think it's based at Gloucestershire Airport; I remember seeing it parked there while I was taxiing). I can always tell when it goes over my house on final: not only is the sound very distinctive - it's also incredibly loud!

I used to occasionally fly a Piaggio P166 from Bairnsdale Victoria Australia. They were a regional airline favorite and The Department of Civil Aviation had a couple, one of which was the one I flew. The P180 Avanti drew much inspiration for it, including the reverse 'pusher' engines and wheel configuration.
It would be good if there were more aircraft in this configuration. The Beechcraft Starship has already proven the physical advantages of this configuration. Less drag, thus better efficiency and better stall performance. Last but not least, this beautiful design. Thank you very much, I am looking forward to the next videos.

The Beech Starship was scrapped project. It never met up to expectations. I believe there are only 3 or 4 aircraft remaining airworthy. I was a disgrace to Beechcraft and most have long since been cut up as scrap and a few parts remain.
pusher plane designing should be the future, less cabine noise, less drag, and more fuel efficiency, that's basically what jets with engines in the back are, pushers, well props can also do the same.
@@avflyguyThe Starship didn’t meet expectations because the FAA made them modify the design and added a significant amount of weight. The FAA didn’t know how to certify an all composite airframe and did not trust the engineers. As a result it was overbuilt and had systems added it wasn’t designed to have, flaps for example. The flaps are largely useless on the Starship because the front wing stalls first. So adding flaps to the main wing doesn’t do anything more than act as a speedbrake. But when Boeing was trying to figure out how to build the composite 787, they went back to the Starship to learn how to do it. Not as fast as the P180 but a spectacular aircraft and I believe the only aircraft in existence with an unlimited lifespan on the airframe.
Jan Roskam managed the low speed and transonic speed wind tunnel programs for the SIAI Marchetti S-211 and Piaggio 180-Avanti. He passed away recently. A remarkable Aeronautical Engineer and professor. Author of excellent books on flight dynamics and aircraft design.

Very Iconic aircraft. There is one based at an airport near me. It has a distinctive sound, so you know what it is before you ever see it on close final. Kind of like a P51 - also identifiable just by hearing it. Always fascinated with the design and the pusher engines/props.

Very nice infomercial. The engineering of this acft is superb & I love the sound of those engines! One of my most favorite aircraft. I LOVE innovative ideas that reduce our pollution. Recently, I discovered a new design which is supposed to be far more efficient than traditional aircraft, the Celera 500L. Its first appearance was in January 2018 & I'm amazed that we don't see more of it 6 years latter ???

Been 15 years since ive been in the hangar but there was one at shreveport regional ive seen it in the air too more than once. Its quiet sleek reminds me of a burt rutan

Another point worth noting is that the MTOW is under 12,500 lbs, strictly speaking, you don't need a type rating. There is no prop de-ice, the props sit in the jet exhaust and are constantly de-iced by the engines. Lovely aircraft!

Out of all the turboprop planes I seen this is the one I really is attracted to and I like more I love the range in the speed into comfort but morally is the speed in the range of it I personally like me with imagination got plenty of modification ideas for that plane I think you can increase the fuel range a little bit longer and you can modify the engines more faster is possible

I guess that the sound is even more distinctive than other jets because of the harmonics caused by having two PC-6 turbines so close together. From what I understand, the fuselage shape actually generates lift and with a range of 1700 nautical miles, it can probably make a transatlantic flight with just one stop so long as you fuel from Gander, which most small jets cannot do and only the larger much more expensive executive jets can do non-stop.

The forward wing of the P180 is not referred to as a "canard", as it does not have moving surfaces contributing to the longitudinal control, and not even longitudinal trim of the airplane. It has electrically operated flaps, which work in a predefined sequence in harmony with the main wing flaps, in order to minimize pitch changes during extension or retraction. The main contribution of the forward wing is to reduce the total necessary wing area, by keeping the nose of the airplane "up", reducing the need of negative lift on the tail, which would require larger wings to compensate the total. This is the "three lifting surfaces" concept, which in the end reduces total drag. No aesthetic or style design choice, only maximized aerodynamic efficiency. Another comment on this excellent video is that the internal cabin noise is greatly reduced not much by the addition of soundproofing material, but by the fact that the propellers, unlike in the conventional traction designs, are located two meters behind the aft pressurized bulkhead, far from the passengers. Imagine a 74dBA internal noise level, compared to 82dBA of a King Air.
