I think that's the smoothest Ross rifle I've ever seen! Easy to see why they weren't the most practical for combat though... Nevertheless, the Ross is an interesting piece of history!
Pulling and pushing the bolt is just so satisfying
I have one of these with different adjustable sights. My Dad bought in Edmonton in the 1950's.
Love the 05 ross,so smooth a bolt, mine was a hunting build...not military ,akthough many simalarities
Lol just chucking the rounds in like dropping them in a bucket
Not much out there on the Ross MKII glad you posted these vids.
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Awesome gat!
its so fun to see the rounds yeeted into the gun like that
Really cool gun. I want a straight pull bolt gun someday.
Outstanding operation , well done !
Sound 👍👍👍❤❤❤❤
Canada should modernize this one ngl
Excellent video that really shows the bolt speed. Also, who knew that loading these could be so fast and without rim lock? What brand is the rear peep?
Thanks! Not sure about that rear peep, it was on the rifle before I bought it. I'm surprised on how well it works despite being mounted on the bolt
perfeqt
What bolt is smoother in your opinion the smle or the Ross
I just got one today and mine also doesn’t have the extra above the forend like yours do some not come with that extra wood?
Is it an m5 or m10 because if it's an m10 then it was modified and sportarized if it's not it could be modified m5 or one of his sport shooting rifles
Quit wrapping your thumb around the comb of the stock you will be more accurate and you can cycle faster or clear failures years of coyote hunting taught me that with a bolt action id love that ross 😉😊
какая прелесть.
00:59 how do you line up the rounds correctly inside the magazine like that?
The Ross uses a Harris style magazine in which the follower is attached to a long arm and you can manipulate the arm with the lever/button/thing on the right side. The magazine body is also shaped in a way to reduce rimlock. So, by dumping cartridges in the magazine and pushing the follower all the way down, they simply just fall into place. If you do get rimlock, you can jiggle the lever to bounce them out, but I haven't had that occur in a while.
@@PhoenixPhart That's really awesome, this made this straight pull even cooler to me lol
Please help me out i have a riflee of like this from british rule period in india....and cartage is also same...and he is made in canada ,my grandfather told me this rifree is made in only canada and england he is same as ross riflee...but in jndia there is no cartoss shop for this rifle..can i import some cartoss...the cartos is NITRO 380...PLZ HELP GUYS
Do you mean NITRO .280? That would mean it's in ".280 Ross" which is rare even here in the western hemisphere. I'm sorry, but you may have to get to get custom ammunition made for it
Where did you get that aperture sight?
It was already welded onto the bolt before I bought it
@@PhoenixPhart ahh, I picked one up a month or so ago, missing both sights, they seem to be rare as hens teeth these days
@@mattsharpe3989 No kidding. I've been looking for a rear sight for this thing for a while and it's probably easier to buy a rifle with one. Do a search for "Ross Rifle Restoration". I've never contacted them, but they seem to have some stuff available to get your gun back in shape.
@@PhoenixPhart I'll take a look there, thanks 👍
The men and women of the era are gone but not there all there things
What are the drawbacks of this system ? I guess there are some, otherwise it would be way more popular
It's the same problem with the Krag rifle: you're dealing with loose cartridges. Grabbing exactly five cartridges from a pouch or pocket is difficult and it took a couple of takes to get this right. In addition, you could jettison a cartridge or two if your fingers slip off of the lever. I'd imagine in sport and recreational shooting there would be no problem since you were under no duress and could take your time when counting the exact amount of cartridges to feed the magazine, but the natural progression toward stripper clips and chargers definitely make loading exactly the amount you need when you need it much easier. It would be nice if a modern hunting rifle brought back this system, though.
I guess I should've asked for clarification, did you mean the magazine system or the straight-pull bolt?
@@PhoenixPhart I would assume the magazine system, it's well known that straight pull bolt don't make you faster but they are simpler to operate, only 2 movements instead of 4, do you think the rifle would have been better with something like a Steyr M95 en bloc clip?
@@Warptenlololol Absolutely; this is something the Canadians figured out and stuck a clip guide on the Mk3 Ross to accept SMLE five round stripper clips
