Making a sturdy transmission platform for a floor jack

- Today I found myself in need of a good platform jack to finish installing a transmission in my Blazer. If you've ever tried balancing a transmission over your head on a floor jack, yeah, not so fun. I took this video of my build and it really worked well. Now I've got a transmission jack whenever I need it. Let me know in the comments if you think of any improvements.
Great idea! I am 75, can't lift like I used to. I need to lift a heavy starter to the bottom part of my tractor.

great idea. Simple design and easy to make. I have a transmission and transfer cast to remove, and that is what I am going to use.

Great build! Built one using steel step rails from truck took about 10 minutes to weld up and fit right into jack using 7/8ths socket. This thing works like a champ and didn't cost anything.
Nice design- maybe sandwich and secure a nylon ratchet strap between the wood plank and metal plate too, to wrap around the transmission.

3/4 inch fir plywood also works well

I bought one exactly the same for a 5er , need rebuilding and don't know what model is it, sticker missing

What kind of electrode did you weld with?
I use 6013 on most everything. I use an old Lincoln AC 225 passed down from my grandfather 40 years ago. The 6013's let you stick the rod right into the puddle and move penetration where you need it. Gives me some versatility that the old welder doesn't.
would mig welder be ok to use? I don't have a stick welder
Mig would be fine. probably better than I'm working with

I just built a complete new design that does not even use a jack. It is on youtube but people wont even take the 1m 20s to watch it.
