To be fair, Roze did literally say they were not actually playing chess. They were just using the chess board to control the Knightmare battle being shown at the same time.
Well to be fair, Roze of Recapture isn’t a sequel to R2. It’s a sequel to Lelouch of the Resurrection which is a sequel to recap trilogy Sunrise made but made few changes then the original series.
So the original series is untouched while this alternate universe can make changes as they. After all Shirley is alive, most importantly Lelouch is back and living with CC as husband and wife and new Geass powers were set up back in the movie. So I’m unbothered, the problem I have is the shield that’s preventing the BK for doing anything
