    I have never used a Boyue product before, and Likebook P10 seemed like a very interesting 10" e-note and e-reader device because, on paper, it offers quite a lot for a price of a 7.8" device. So where's the catch? Let's check it out.

    I have respected your honesty about the device's poor writing experience because of absence of calibration with pen.

    I know your review is many months old, and the pen or stylus was a big problem with the P10. Boyue has come out with a new P10, it's the P10W, or Wacom screen. You can now use any Wacom pen. I have tried several and they work well. Nice screen protector already applied. P10W can be ordered thru the Boyue store on aliexpress. I ordered and got it quickly via DHL. Shipping is free when I bought it. Works well with MDG. It still has some bugs, but now has pen calibration, and found the writing to be good overall. Palm rejection not the best, so you still have to engage the hand thing. The weight with cover and pen came to 638 grams. Still heavy, but lighter than what you said before. ( paid 359 US, but see they raised the price to 379 US - still free DHL shipping ) Very good reader for ePub's. I also have the Kindle and Kobo apps. Books read very well on these too. BTW, my Remarkable 2 comes in at 647 grams, that's with leather cover and pen. No, I don't work for Boyue, just pointing out some new facts.

    @alexfekken7599 Před 3 lety +3

    Thanks for another excellent review Voja.
    Your experience largely matches the one that I had with this device. In particular the stylus constantly felt like I had to apply a pencil sharpener. In the end I did more or less that and applied a sandpaper stone to reduce the size and shape of the nib to be more like a "regular" one and that did seem to help somewhat. But I never got a consistently good or reasonable writing experience and I am not so sure that this is just a matter of calibration: I would expect the offset/disconnect to be more consistent then.
    For me personally (because I sync my books across devices), the fact that my annotations did not become part of the PDFs was unfortunately even more of a showstopper. Because that compromises my ability to use this as an active reading device, as opposed to for passive reading (for which I still think it is excellent).

    • @destructa911
      @destructa911 Před 3 lety

      In which device do the annotations become part of the Pdf? I really am looking for this one thing!

    • @alexfekken7599
      @alexfekken7599 Před 3 lety +2

      @@destructa911 The Onyx Boox devices certainly do it (scribbles, highlights, comments, bookmarks). I actually took it for granted that all note taking eReader software would do this until I got the P10 and realised that my documents weren't syncing back after annotating (I have been using a setup with GoogleDrive and DriveSync for years now; Voja has described such a setup in another video). Writing this I realise that you could probably work around this by using another eReader application, but a generic Android eReader application may give you other issues or may not make the most of the device, I am not sure.
      It is a pity really (and perhaps a later software update may change this) because the P10 would have met my reading requirements otherwise. Unlike Voja, I don't think it is too heavy for me and I like both the grip on the back and the feelng of the screen(protector). Plus the idea that compared to the Onyx devices it is cheap but does not feel cheap (until you start using the stylus) means I would drag it around unprotected (without cover) wherever I go and ready to be used. Also, and unlike what you get on most other devices, the 64GB of storage (of which almost 55GB is available) really makes this a portable library that can hold all of my eBooks.

    Thank you Voja, excellent review as usual! I read Boyue added pen calibration through a firmware update, can you please redo "E-note capabilities" / writing tests in a new video in order to check if your problems were caused by missing calibration? This is a very interesting device but very unusable in this condition, I find quite interesting UX, reader capabilities and yeah, the price, obviously.

      @MyDeepGuide  Před 2 lety +3

      It has improved, but just precision, nothing else. It's still slow and the pen still is as bad as it was.

  • @constitutionaltheorychanne1812

    When selecting text in PDF, can't you use the pen, instead of your finger? (You mentioned that it's hard to touch the handle with your fingertip.)
    Also, does it allow you to highlight text in PDFs? (You only mentioned that you can underline text.)
    I'm looking for a reasonably priced device with a larger screen, mainly to read and highlight PDFs. (Not so much interested in notetaking) It should also let me send highlighted PDFs to my PC, via something like Autosync.

      It was a very long time since I last used this device, so I don't remember if it has that functionality or not. But you should have an option for a back gesture. Just check the system settings for gestures, or navigation and you should be able to find it. Normally it is a swipe up from the bottom right side of the screen, but it could be different on that device.

      I have checked now, and you are correct. It looks like one of the later updates has completely broken this functionality. I know that it worked back then, because I tested it, and it was normal, marked text was exported as highlights. Annotations of marked text is never exported by any of these devices, but what is far more disturbing is that even on the device itself, now things that were marked, can just disappear. Now that most certainly wasn't the case earlier. So it looks like one of the updates has pushed this device from somewhat usable, to, as you say, pretty much useless. It's sad to see when an update breaks a device :(

    How well does the kindle app perform / look on the device?

      I purchased the device, and the kindle performance was acceptable. I'm not expecting speed, but certainly useable.

      Do you get the option to download the PDF of the text you underlined? Does it save your summaries?
      Thanks in advance!

      @@edgarguzman9191 Are you asking about the Kindle app or the native notepad app? I wasn't able to figure out how in the Kindle app. In the native notepad app, it gives you several export options including email, Evernote, etc. I tried email... it sent the email but I wasn't able to see the file in the email I received. I didn't try the other options. Sorry I didn't help any more than that.
