- This Possum has been raised by people without a proper diet. Consequently, this fuzzy pet possum has become morbidly obese leading to a few health problems! This 16lb fat possum in need of a diet, so she’ll be heading to the vet for a diet plan and some medicine!

This is why you don't leave your pets, with grandma.
She ends up overfeeding them
Give em better treats that they can taste, like apples
Poor thing actually. I know it’s love, but like a person, you have to feed them healthy!
she a good girl, please take care of her.
Big momma... Hope she gets healthy... 💕💕💕💕💕
They store a lot of fat in their tail, and that is a really big tail!
Well, that's sad to see, hope you all make the needed difference to restore her to a healthier condition. I've raised batches of wee ones to release, always made sure they got food that would in some way mimic what was suitable for them if they were foraging. I never saw them as prone to overeat and never had obesity issues. I see videos occasionally with some having those fattied tails and I always hope that the caretakers are taking note and resolving what's gone wrong.
I see that developing and would find all the grub worms I could and raw fish crawel dad's, know as crawel fish and it would smooth the tale out in now time to a smooth course take in know time. Keeping oil on the tale making for soft relaxing tales, mind you'd generally pull threw your hands while holding them. They really like it.
They dont live but 2yrs but are cool as can be
omg i feed the possums in my backyard like fruit and stuff that i’ve seen possum rehabbers feed their possums idk how people can be giving them cake
What can a wild possum take to support them in the autumn? There is a pregnant, pouch full, female here. She needs a better diet and things that will distract her from the nuts that squirrels and raccoons have access to. She recieveings many kinds of things, but as she is still nursing i want her to stay healthy and ensure all arent worn down or sick. She is important and much of two years old. This is HER territory as well, she has let other possums know that.
She visits too often now for the cold and nursing. She picks at peanuts left for others but i have provided: mice and a rabbit in spring, caught crickets and worms, wet cat food, yogurt, cheese, grapes, banana, infrequent amounts of muffin, chicken and bone, some times I have made bone meal to add to food left out for her, and rarely she has had dry dog food. She likely still hunts for food but i can see she has come to rely on the food supply she finds here more than ever. But she needs to be more active and i believe eat more rough foods. Has ignored vegetables in the past.
Her weight seems good, she moves around, climbs over rough branches and has abundant open shelters. She is confident and dismissive of other nocturnal life, not overacting or aggressive toward young curious raccoons.
She has been pregnant before, in the spring. But her and three other females never carried their young so i am suspicious of what circumstances occurred. I have been watching her and she is an attentive mother before and recently, grooming them and laying down off her pouch. Our local community of wildlife deserve a good chance and a longer life, and i want her joeys to outlive her.
Sounds to my reads you have made a perfect oppsume meal already for a wild oppsume, they are bug meat eaters the most, they will make or live in holes they find alot and nibble on roots growing in them. People think they love rotton meat and bad ol veggies but they are hanging around for bugs of all kinds lizard mouse and will eat the old meat and bad veggies if that's all they can find, they really like their meat fresh if they can get it that way. Very seldom but sometimes if preditors are high the mother's will leave babies in a nest sometimes, but whowels, chicken Hawks, coyotes, foxes, snakes, turtles, and feiral cats sometimes will steal babies off their backs or scare mom's into dead play and steal them even from the pouch, sometimes people will to, just take all of them. Sad
They eat bird seed at my house. The deer tear down feeders, so I just scatter the seed on the front walk.
OMG what a cutie i hope she get healthy ❤
I just love opossums.
Please give an update and maybe find an opossum rehabilitators to take her in
Sorry, but that’s the cutest possum I’ve ever seen😂
Her grandma did it to her
Look at her eyes so cute
I'm one of the world's biggest oposum fans so this breaks my heart
Thank you 🙏
Possum raised in captivity will live about as long of a dog.
No, they won’t.
@@thatsnakeguy2074 Not to tell anyone but I have 2 of them and they are already 5 years old. Now having said that, they are well taken care of. They have had the same medications that are given to cats. I know they cannot pick up rabies so that is not an issue. They sleep just about all the time and wake up when the dogs start barking at the door or when the sun goes down and it's time to eat. They are house broken and often use the kitty little box. Neither are fixed but I've not seen any adverse behavior. They don't seem too interested in anyone in the house. I remember when their mother came to the house. They were in her pouch. the next morning she lay dead in the garage. The door was open and I think she was just ready to go. Before throwing out the corps, I checked her and there were they were. I tried to keep them wild by keeping them outside when they were about 3 months old but they figured out the doggy door real fast. I find them to be extremely intelligent, which is why they are house broken. They stay off the furniture for the most part. I often find them curled up next to the cats and Chihuahuas but not the larger dogs. Still, everyone gets along. They keep out of the road and will eat every insect in sight. I really wouldn't call them pets but they do have free access to wherever they want to go. On occasion they like to sit in your lap and be petted but not all the time. By far their favorite hobby is sleeping. No, they will not last as long as a small dog or cat and I realize that but so far so good.
The males usually live a couple years and females maybe three years. I’ve seen females as old as four and a half though.
@@jroar123mine female is almost 9
Morbidly a beast you say?
In all serious I hope she got the care she needed. I know possums don’t have a long lifespan (nature is cruel) so I’m glad she got to an expert.
If this was a year ago I wonder if she’s still alive?
How sad she lost her people or they abandoned her. Growing up I remember Possums in our yard but I had no idea they were docile. As a kid I was scared of them and porcupines believing they shot their quils at you. Ha
🙂 cuteness overdose
Opossums are foraging animals so you need to make them work for there food if you have one as a pet. If they don't of course they will become overweight especially if people are feeding them incorrect foods. I really hope this Opossum was able to be rehabilitated and loose the weight
Nothing wrong with feeding her good food, but also make sure she gets outside to run and move around for exercise - some people keep the animals locked in the house too much.
Even the whites of her eyes are bulging :( hope she gets better and lived a healthy rest of her life
❤❤❤❤😢
Pudgy possum!
I mean, the proper food for opossums (as i remember) is: fruits, eggs, fish, insects, milk products (like yogurt, etc.). What kind of food they were giving her to made her that big?
Literal little Debbie’s
They come around for birdseed. The deer destroy feeders, so I just throw the seed on the walk. This bunch is rather rude, and leave a mess. The other critters don't seem to be bothered.
Let him eat!!! His life is short anyway just let him eat to his heart's content living his dreamlife, instead of dieting him!!!? What? By the time he slims down his time's up!!!
does it really matter if she is obese if they live so short anyway? if she is only to be around like 2-3 years let her have some nice food at least
It does, she should have never been obese to begin with. And your quoting statistics from a wild opossum that faces predation and other hazards, in captivity they should live longer. There is no excuse to let an animal get this way.
@@thatsnakeguy2074 I see, if she is wild that is supper dangerouse. I Assumed this is pet opossum and in that case there is many ways to look at it
Why don't we see very many huge oppsumes, healthy ones like grows up on bufflow and white river the shallow clear end of white river and the bauyo's of white river agusta areas and surroundings, male oppsumes getting as huge as racoon males. I had a couple of males they looked 30-40 pounds but where in the 20 of pounds and not over weight. They eat stuff like raw chicken and raw fish foods like that as well as fruits and unsweetened fruit jucices. I to me thought that a real healthy normal for males, females of course very seldom got as huge but came across many 14-2/ pounders, my dad was a hunter ally life so I saw plenty and knew when my grew huge on diets like that and no I didn't give them even cookies but knew I had healthy happy oppsumes.
@ThatSnakeGuy - Is this possom girl still alive? Do you know what happened to her? Did she lose weight?? Update us, please??😊
I'm feeding them outside inside our yard, only healthy stuff, no human foodstuffs. Fruits, Veggies and cat food not much.
They don't live long anyway. Let her enjoy her food while she's living.
Hence why we’re the professionals.
Just like kids, you can't make them eat 😅the veggies if they don't want them !.
Well, in this case the kids did want them but the parents just only fed them honey buns
Thiccossum
