Track Running Workout for Beginners (Coached by an OLYMPIAN)

- If you’re new to running and are looking to get a bit quicker - maybe break a 5k or parkrun PB - then running on a track is a great way to focus on getting a bit faster. Team GB Olympian Andy Baddeley (who also happens to hold the parkrun world record, so knows a lot about this) has teamed up with The Running Channel to take you through a basic track session you can try yourself.

Thanks to the guys at LDN City Runners for having us along to their session for the evening.
FULL WORKOUT:
3-4 laps warm up jog (1200-1600m)
Dynamic stretching and movement drills
3-4 x 80m strides
2 sets of (3x 400m with 90s rest) with 3 minute jog recovery between sets
2-4 laps warm down jog (800-1600m)

I try to get 2 track sessions in a week- a 6x800 and a 20/30min tempo run. Really helps to build up the speed in the legs and improve the form too.

You'll prob hate me for asking but do you have any workouts for treadmill as we approach the latter end of the year? I can't always get out for a run as we've a young 'un so treadmill is the only option.
