    These are great tips! Pirouettes are not my strong suit at all. One thing my teacher always tells me (especially when doing a pirouette thing across the floor) is to push down into the floor and go up and it helps a lot. I've started to get some doubles, now it's just being consistent LOL

    Great video and tips. I've never heard about not letting the foot slip. Thank you. I am sure this will help me.

    O Lordy, I fall out of every one I try! Prep ok, retire ok, turning ok, falling out, OK!

      Oof, I know! It's so hard to land pirouettes! We have another video on our channel that has my favorite exercises for improving the landing. Basically, you do a releve passe, and then try to lower into a plie / coupe back instead of just putting your passe leg down to land. This teaches you to stop your turn and come down on 1 leg, instead of putting out a "kickstand!" czcams.com/video/uWJCFHFj_sQ/video.html
      Hope that helps a little! Happy pirouetting :)

    Thanks for this! For some reason I always have trouble landing my pirouettes and I think it’s because I’m using too much force!

      Thanks for watching, Kiana! Force can definitely be a big factor! Glad you enjoyed the video 😁

    Does anyone here go through a "unable to pirouette" phase? I haven't been taking breaks from lessons (twice a week) but suddenly i am unable to turn on my right leg for 2 consecutive practices. I used to do doubles but now i can't even finish a single without hopping through. I still can hold my balance on a retiré though. What's happening? Any advice is appreciated! 💟💟

    • @BrocheBallet
      @BrocheBallet  Před 5 lety

      Absolutely! This is very common. I like to think that the pirouettes just get a little shy :) But in seriousness, when you're really working on a lot of technique, sometimes your brain can get a little jumbled while it puts all of the pieces together and you can "lose" your pirouettes for a little while.
      Try trusting your technique and letting your body do the turn for a little while. It sounds like you might just be a little stressed about your turns, and perhaps even clenching your body in response to the stress, which makes the turns even harder to achieve! Let it go, lift up, and trust yourself!
      Just remember, if you've done it once, you'll be able to do it again! They'll come back!

    Great tips! I always hops before I land. What can I do to overcome that? Can you do another tips for pirouette hops?

    • @BrocheBallet
      @BrocheBallet  Před 2 lety +1

      Hopping before landing is our body trying to readjust to keep our balance. Your body's balancing mechanism will always try to keep your foot underneath your head so that you don't fall over and so that you'll protect your head. So if you're hopping, usually it's because your head is not over top of your foot. If you haven't already, check out the other pirouette videos on my channel with some exercises to help with balancing in your turn. I also have an on-demand library with dozens of turning drills class practice videos at brocheballet.com
      Keep practicing and I know you'll find that solid balanced axis to turn on!
