  • "Fort Worth Flyover" is the name of a short IMAX film created for the Omni Theater at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, the first one commissioned by a specific museum. The original "Fort Worth Flyover" debuted in 1983 as part of "The Legend of the Sleeping Panther", a multimedia presentation on the city's history that accompanied the Omni Theater's first IMAX feature, "Hail Columbia!" "Sleeping Panther" was retired at the end of Omni's "Hail Columbia!" engagement, but the helicopter ride feature was then at the beginning of "To Fly" and has shown on every Omni feature since 1984.

    Everybody felt like they were about to fall off. It was hilarious.

      Yeah, first time, you're like "OH MY GOD". All the other times it was so funny to wait because "they don't know what they're in for". I always could hear audible gasps from around the audience.

    They played this in the Omni at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History before EVERY movie and it was STUNNING! Until like 2005 or something!! This is only a small part of it, the complete version zooms all the way down down to the actual Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, and all the staff are waving from the rooftop. You would get chills/feel terrified watching it every single time on such a giant screen!

      Same! I used to love that and the science museum when I was a kid.
      The helicoptor part at the beginning scared me when I was little though 😂

    It is amazing in the Omni/Imax you felt like you were really flying with motion in your stomach. See it at the Omni/Imax if you have a chance, it is also longer. I saw it at the Science Center as a kid and was blown away by how they figured out how the create that motion effect. Like other comments have said the high pitch angle of the theater and the motion on the screen and people were grabbing their seats to hold on. It was like a roller coaster inside.

      Im feeling homesick. The Fort Worth flyover II was really good. The helicopter peels up the skyscrapers. Then fighter jets at the end. I'm forced to live in the Midwest atm and I miss Texas so much.

    Still love heading to the Omni theater with my wife for a quick little getaway to catch one of the films out there. Do you think you'll ever update the intro? I mean, it's a great intro still, so many years later, but the Ft Worth skyline has changed so much over the past 33 years.

    What happened to the people waiving at the public?. Dallas is bigger than Fort Worth but I would rather live in Fort Worth by far. Anyway, I like Austin and Houston way more, more likely Houston because it's closer to Kemah and Galveston Island.

      Mitchell Blackburn you probably don’t realize that imax 70mm film has a resolution of approximately 12K so the projector upgrade would be kinda pricy.

    • @AF_1892
      @AF_1892 Před 2 lety

      Exactly. The projector is a powerhouse. 2022 phones cannot capture it. And oh yes irl the jet version will make you want to puke.
