    Hi Richard,I think the general public should watch videos like yours and farmer p’s to see what actually happens and what farmers actually endure to produce their food.people are quick to criticise farmers for driving to slow or talking about the cost of everything but they have no idea what has gone into producing their loaf of bread their pint of milk or the oil to fry their egg i think schools should arrange trips to farms and educate children about their food rather than them growing up thinking that you just buy produce from supermarkets.anyway rant over great video as usual.👍

    Claas best combine in the world... German engineering at its finest!
    Funny, they still use the exact same crop lifters as the ones that came on my Ford 640 (which was built by Claas, their "Senator" model, imported to the USA and equipped with a Ford 300 cubic inch inline six engine... Dad took them off our combine because they were tangling up in grain sorghum and causing problems, but they're still in the shed if I ever needed them.
    Never seen anybody picking up windrows with a platform header before. They don't do windrows here, but watching South Sask Farmer up in Canada where they DO windrow grain to get it drier before combining they use windrow pickups in place of the combine header. We use platform headers for grain sorghum and soybeans around here, and rice of course, and corn heads for corn. Seen some guys using row crop heads or reel attachments or replacements on platforms (that use gathering belts and such) to cut sesame, and add-on grain pans out front for cutting sunflowers, but that's further north too, from where we are down in South Texas...

    Reminds me of being a kid. Sitting up in the combine watching.Initially a New Holland in the 60's. Then a Class Dominator when they came out in the early 70's. For a time there were both of them working. Milk in the morning. Contracting during the day. Milk in the late afternoon. Then often more contracting. Or our own work until dark. When I first started working on the farm 100 plus hour weeks were the norm. But I was young. And loved it.

    Oh, canola! That's what this is lol...Yeah it's popular here across the pond for cooking--makes a very healthy cooking oil, I use it all the time. They grow a lot of it in Canada (and it's called canola there too). Thanks Reg, always enjoy visiting your farm.

    Loved that........Reg has got some good kit on his farm.......that combine is making a good job of picking up that lodged crop though. I.m hearing many farmers saying how concerned they are about the future of farming with the fluctuating prices for everything.......the arable guys are getting a lot less for there grain and OSR this year not even covering there costs of growing and harvesting .....the milk price as you say Richard dropped a lot from a year ago.........I'm not sure at all that leaving farming to survive with the world prices for comodity's on it's own is going to work in the long term.......there needs to be something to even out the dips in prices i think

    • @nigelgribble8736
      @nigelgribble8736 Před 11 měsíci

      They are deliberately driving prices down to take over the farms and control the food supply.

    I recall swathing the rape green and waiting for it to die off before picking up with the combine, not always easy, and contractor to pay for the swathing. I then got a seasonal job driving one of his Shelborne Reynolds swathers, least it brought some payback !

    Do you think Jack would go into farming? If so, what sort of farming?

  • @williamritchie172

    Reg is correct. Farming is getting harder. Farming in the uk is so unappreciated and unsupported. Future is not good for farming.
