CorruptedSteven wasn't rampaging like a Monster- he was having a Panic Attack, and only actually lashed out when someone got his attention and he had a target.
I had a panic attack myself once (Pray I never have one again, it was horrible) and while it was different from Steven's I know that's still what he's going through- a panic attack won't be the same for every single person, because we're all DIFFERENT and handle whatever life throws our way differently

Sat on a bench and proceeded to freak out, heavy breathing, tears streaming barely able to speak until she sent me home.
another one I was in a lockdown cell (Extreme claustrophobia) and I was literally FROZEN in place until the door opened. Had to piss so bad but my body refused to move until the door was open.

I think the real reason that the diamonds wouldn't give pink a colony was because they were scared of how she would respond to the stress of governance. Maybe she was super destructive when she was first created and the diamonds managed to find a way to suppress many of her powers.
Tyler Slagel I think the inference I’ve always made is diamonds destroy planets and rob them of their essential resources- we even see the plan of what they wanted to turn earth into and it’s very “homeworld”-esc. I think the imagine of the destroyed homeworld is more to show how much they really destroy the ecosystem of planets and show why they choose to venture into the stars.
Home world had been drained of it's recourses and was incredibly frail

I think an interesting parallel that homeworld bound highlighted is that ALL the diamonds have two sides to their powers, opposite sides of the same ability but due to the era 2 mentality they had no need to explore those sides eg. Blue can make people happy or sad, yellow can break forms apart and put them back together, white can enter minds or let people enter hers. So Stevens pink powers make perfect sense as up till now he has been a healer, the opposite of healing is total destruction. Really in terms of power pink was was ahead of the curve in exploring her own abilities.

I find it interesting that Corrupted Steven has some of Lion’s powers; he walks on water at times, and his massive wails are very much like Lion’s roar attacks. Little nods/reminders that Lion’s powers are really Pink’s powers

This is why I think Steven's kids will have some level of powers despite not having gems.

Steven didn’t corrupt. Hear me out, Throughout the series it has been shown that Stevens mental state affects how his gem works. When Greg made him think he couldn’t heal, he stopped being able to heal for real. More importantly, during that one episode where Steven almost died from aging himself too much, HE AGED HIMSELF because he felt OLD mentally. Therefore, instead of “self corrupting” himself, he unintentionally shapeshifted himself into a real monster after viewing himself as a monster. He didn’t say “I’m, corrupted” he said “I’m, a monster”. PLUS BD asked IF he was corrupted, showing even she wasn’t sure if it WAS or WASN’T corruption..
Edit: so instead of calling him ‘corrupted’ Steven.. it is more appropriate to call him ONLY ‘monster’ Steven.

@@bjkaye9918 I don't think she meant it in a literal sense. More like the sheer negativity coming from Steven was completely unlike anything she'd experienced from him before, because he always presents himself as a cheerful do-gooder.
Future was about Steven coping with the new era of peace and how he didn't have to be that person anymore, but felt that he had to because he really didn't have anything else.
If he's not a hero, then who is he? He didn't know. The only other aspect of him was his Diamond powers, which kept going out of control as his mental health worsened.

Hear me out, a spin off of all the diamonds in era 1 before and leading up to pink becoming rose. It can show us how they were before all this happened and give us another side of the Diamonds

I feel like a diamond’s power is developed through a certain amount of stress, emotion, and want. Even though we can all see that there is a clear difference in the type of power each diamond can have, I feel like as long as it is along the lines of that classification, there is not really a limit on what powers a diamond can have. And that is why we see Steven developing powers here and there, because he is constantly in danger, and new powers seems to just pop out whenever he needs a specific one. At first it might just seems like it’s cuz he’s the main character and that’s just how main characters work, but looking at the diamond’s new powers, it also corresponded with what they want to do at the time too.
This makes sense because diamonds are literally formed under pressure. Genius writing.

My little theory for "corrupted steven" is that he WAS technically corrupted, if you pay attention to the context of the scene, notice that the other diamonds were also in water, along with steven tears, healing his physical form from corrupted, along with the love and support healing his humanity from "corruption", and there's also this quote from garnet from this one episode that she describes corruption as a "tear of fabric in the mind if mc bear bear"
Also, when white tried to connect with him, she fell backwards like she'd been hit in the head from the inside.

I legit forgot I’m great at reading feelings, and didn’t realize that it wasn’t evident to everyone that Stevens “monster” wasn’t trying to be destructive, it was a panic attack. He was never trying to be a monster, he just believed he was one. That’s why there wasn’t more of him being destructive in that form. Honestly I think the most chaotic and out of control Steven was Quartz Steven, or possible Diamond Steven.

While seeing more of monster steven’s powers might’ve been more satisfying from a lore or knowledge perspective, I don’t think it would’ve been good from a story perspective. The point if the monster is thats what steven feels like. It was even touched on in the video, he feels like a monster, but that doesn’t mean he is one. I feel as if it was very intentional that steven never actually used any crazy diamond powers. When you look at it, he doesn’t even seem to destroy anything on purpose. He attacks the temple in what seems to be in a state of panic, and while he moves towards the town, he runs at the gems because they’re pushing him back. It seems to be a sort of combat reaction. Monster steven isn’t a new form or evolution of quartz/diamond steven, but his powers reacting to him feeling like a monster. Thats why I think we only see monster steven do the roar. He’s fully in reaction mode, attacking and trying to fight against first his emotions, and then the people who he sees as attacking them

I like the idea of Steven's monster form being dysfunctional. Similar to an actual mental breakdown it made sense that he didn't act rational, but rather like a monster letting out his concealed emotions until he was calmed down
Corruption was often portrayed as a mental illness for gems, especially anxiety. They are in a constant fight or flight mode, they can't think rationally anymore, and their bodies reflect their minds. The only difference between monster Steven and corruption is that corruption was from an external attack and Steven's meltdown was built up over time (though has anyone noticed that the Diamonds represent the three main emotions in anxiety, anger, sadness and fear?)

I do have a theory.....Remember How Steven had bad thoughts for the diamonds and every time he thought about them he would turn pink....What if it was Rose Quartz who had those thoughts....she apart of Steven in a way....I think it wasn't Steven with his trauma I think It was Rose for how much she had to go through to get a colony and for white/yellow/blue ((diamond)) How they put Pink in the tower and doing other stuff to her. I feel like Steven was in a LOT of pain as the Big Boi(tm). It explains why he attacks without pattern. He only attacks when given an actual target. I think he was basically going through a panic attack.
Flame It was like a full on breakdown, a tantrum, a panic attack. Ive actually experienced something that like and its just losing your mind and wanting to hurt anything around you including yourself, and you end up thrashing around and slamming into things, even banging your head into hard counters.

There was a comic made that is about a fan version of fragments where Steven in the past used the time travel hour glass to go forward in time to where “her was big and strong” so at this moment pink Steven try’s to tell younger Steven about everything including pink diamond,spinel,peridot and the cluster.i think this would be a great theory video to cover

I like to think that Monster Steven represents a panic attack. I mean, steven didn't even attack the crystal gems untill he saw them trying to restrain him. If his body was reacting to situations like a fight or flight mode, it would make sense that when his family surrounded him it made him feel uneasy. Combined with the amounts of stress he felt at that moment and the fact he was sweating, it's part of the symptoms of a panic attack.

I really wanted to see Steven's "uncorrupted" horns. I was actually pretty disappointed to see Steven in such a perfect shape after his corruption. But maybe Pink Steven still has them? We see uncorrupted gems still having their horns and marks on their bodies. But we haven't seen Pink Steven after that episode. I am really curious about what happend to him. I hope we can see more of the story.

Can we discuss how the diamonds getting newfound reverse powers relates to Steven and therefore pink diamond/rose? I feel like the same thing that happened to the diamonds with them getting new powers and all arguably happened to pink diamond when she too was feeling less repressed and better mentally after finding happiness on earth. we’ve now been told that she had destructive powers like Steven is showing in the past, but I’m wondering if she always had her healing powers and other powers. maybe she was able to masquerade so well as rose quartz partly because they were new once she redefined herself. like maybe rose/pink diamond wasn’t able to always float or heal. like where the destructive/steven’s diamond powers her “base” abilities?? and the others weren’t accessible because of how she felt on home world?

I feel like whenever Steven's speed increases to the point of everything slowing down around him, it's meant to symbolise how he's starting to panic under the stress.
Like how a regular person's heartbeat tends to speed up in similar scenarios,but enhanced by Steven's gem form.

They should have had at least a full blown series lineup, 24+ episodes exploring the various aspects of Stevens "self corruption," would have loved some deep dives into gem lore about similar events
Well when he becomes corrupted it seems that he's having a panic attack and is trying to hurt himself (whether it's purposeful I'm not exactly sure) so that's why he's hitting his head against the rocks. This boy really did need help but didn't want to believe that he did because he's Steven he helps others. The thing is though is that he never helped himself.

Steve is a very emotional boy. This makes 100% cent with having a very rich inner world that contrasts with the world around you you going to be emotional or completely not at all. I really do think that you can see that she uses Steve and him going through his teen years to show the constant battles it is to find yourself, mental health and sometimes losing yourself is the way to find yourself. I don't mean go crazy and you will be who you're truly are. I mean you get so lost in helping others you but your needs to the side until it can’t be push back anymore you're forced to face it. You don't know who you are anymore feeling like a monster. Not a lot of people want to say it which is understandable but you feel digest, hate, and rage. You’ve lost yourself a long time ago. You don't know what to do as you are wrapped with fear and anxiety but what you do know is the fight isn’t over yet! You start small with things that bring you joy. Every small victory counts! Then the day comes where you stand and say “ this is a part of who I am but it doesn't define me.” “ I am all of me.” “ I accept who I am and who I will be in the future.”

@@nugget6635 Gem corruption IS psychological. It damages the mind so much that physical attributes are affected as well.
But, again, that's not what happened to Steven. He just had a meltdown, and his Gem reacted to it because he'd lost control of his powers. He went right back to normal when everyone calmed him down.
What a ride this show has been! I loved the ending. It was what I expected from it. I look forward to see what Rebecca Sugar comes up with next.

You know, I've always wondered something. Since pink is smaller than the other diamonds, and we have learned that Amethyst is a deep cut based upon her small stature and being able to do things her fellow gems can't. Does that mean pink is a deep cut too?
You know, I always wondered what the whole uncontrollable swelling thing was all about, but I think I got it. What if Steven’s monster form was a separate entity trapped within Steven’s body, and the uncontrollable swelling is it trying to break free.
My favourite form is Quartz Steven. First he is buff, strong and tall. And the Best thing is that he has control and if he hadn't shattered jasper, I like to think that he would have stayed in that form and would console the gems about his feelings as he has less guilt.
This show brought me life- I miss it so much
