    People always remember "I don't want to go" but what hits me harder is "Lived too long". He was watching himself become the person he hated, that even considering leaving Wilfred to die made him absolutely sure that it was time.

      I agree. I’ve always thought the “live too long” line hits harder than “I don’t want to go.” I feel from the second he heard Wilfred knocking he knew that he had to die to save Wilf which is why he gets so mad. I guess he says “live too long” when he actually realises he needs to be okay with it and save someone’s life rather than his own

    "Worst ... rescue ... ever!" ... I liked the cameo of Jessica Hynes (the granddaughter of the nurse from 1913) ... The mysterious women guiding Wilf must be from a future where the Time Lords succeeded in collapsing reality and ascending. Otherwise, she wouldn't be appearing on telly and on the spaceship. So she's having the Doctor rewrite history by having a gun and choose differently.

    Quick note before getting to the comment proper. Tennant was speaking, not only for his character, but for himself during the rescue scenes. He'd injured his back pretty badly before shooting, so going down the stairs on that gurney was pure agony for him, which I'm sure he channeled into his performance, like all the best actors. (Calling Viggo and his broken toe.)
    Every once in a while I experience episodes of melancholy. When this happens, I try to process the emotion by watching the finales of my favourite TV shows; everyone saying goodbye at the end of MASH, House and Wilson riding off together, all the Friends moving on with their lives, etc. This, and the later regenerations, always top the list, though I wont deny being a tad immune to their effects due to seeing the Doctor change so often (I started watching in the late 70's.) Nevertheless, Ten seeing everyone one last time is always moving, particularly when you remember Liz Sladen was not long for this world after it was filmed, and that his finals words were as much fro the actor as from the character. That being said, I can safely say you're in for a heck of a ride with Matt. Eleven and his first companions are perhaps the best team up since Four and Sarah Jane, giving even Ten and Donna a run for their money. Lots of unknowable twists coming your way too that will shock you to your core. I almost envy you for being able to experience it all for the first time.

    Behind the scenes stuff at the time mentioned that Tennant recorded 3 or 4 takes of "I don't want to go" at varying levels of emotionality but afterwards made a specific request of RTD that they not use the _most_ teary one - he wanted 10 to be emotional but still holding it together rather than losing it. Nice testament to their working relationship that he was listened to (and the wiser choice IMO).
    So there we go. It was Wilfred all along. Not remotely important _and_ a giant :). "Oh alright then, I will" is usually what starts me off because of course we _know_ 10 _isn't_ going to leave him. He never would. Some don't like his "raging at the dying of the light" but for me it underlines that "death" matters to him, which means his sacrifice matters - there's no honour in it if it costs him nothing.
    And onwards we roll, from _one of_ my nuWho faves to _probably_ my nuWho fave (or at least equal fave, depending on the day :) and certainly my favourite _era_ of nuWho so far.

    About the Timelock and the Timelords:
    The Timelords can use timetravel, so technically they technically could just use it to get anywhere in time and space, so to stop the war and prevent them and the dalek to destroy the universe and all of time in their war, two things had to be done:
    1. End the war
    2. Contain this Moment of ending the war in a closed bubble, so that they can only travel inside the bubble, like a prison. (Thats the timelock)
    We already know that the timelock is not perfect, since Davros escaped it with the help of Dalek Kaan, but it seems like it is not easy and in all cases we have seen till now, it was always with the help of someone who survived the time war.
    In Davros case it was Dalek Kaan.
    In this Episode it was the Master.
    So it seems like it can be broken from the outside, but not from the inside.

    • @SKIP-yj3xp
      @SKIP-yj3xp Před měsícem

      The Time Lords can't change their own history, like you're suggesting. You say the Time Lords travel back to prevent the Time War, but if the Time War never happened, there wouldn't have been a war for them to travel back to in the first place. The Moment would never have been used because there was no war to timelock. When Wilf asked the 10th why he can't go back in time to stop the Master he explains to Wilf, "I can't go back inside my own timeline, I have to stay relative to the Master within the casual nexus", basically the here and now. That's why it was such a big deal when they changed Gallifrey's fate in "Day of the Doctor. They even messed around with this rule in "The Name of the Doctor".

    • @Rafaela_S.
      @Rafaela_S. Před měsícem

      @@SKIP-yj3xp Yes they can't go back into their own history, but every else at every other time.
      Like they just could travel to a time after the time war, the reason we don't see other time lords is cause they are time locked in the time war, and can't travel to a future that is past the time war, else we would meet a lot of them.
      The reason the doctor is still present, is cause he won the time war.
      The reason the master is still present, is cause he deserted to the end of the universe and changed himself into a human.
      The only person we know so far, that has traveled out of the timelock and therefore out of the timewar, is davros.
      And who is there to tell us, that there is no way, to change the past, so that the time lords didn't die out?
      The history may be fixed, but it still can be changed, the impression that everyone else got of the past must be the same, but there is always the option, to redefine something that had happend into something else. (Like we gonna see multiple times in the future.)

    • @SKIP-yj3xp
      @SKIP-yj3xp Před měsícem

      @@Rafaela_S. You originally mentioned the Time Lords , going back to prevent the war from happening. Now you say they could just travel to a time after the time war, but I still say preventing the war from happening negates everything else , the time lock , the Moment , and the Doctor's thinking he's the last Time Lord, because those things never happened because there was no war. The Time Lords established the rules of time travel because of things that happened when they started traveling. I've been watching Doctor Who since 1977, and I like these timey wimey discussions. We all know a new writer will come along and complicate things even further, that's what makes a good conversation.

    • @Rafaela_S.
      @Rafaela_S. Před měsícem

      @@SKIP-yj3xp I did not mention the time lords going back in time to prevent the war.
      What I said was: the time lords had time travel, so to prevent the war (from spreading further into the future) something had to be done, that robs them of the ability to travel to the future. That's the timelock.
      That the timelords can still change the past we see in this very episode, when the timelords implement the beat into the masters head. They are in the war right now and change something that was at the time when the first doctor was still a child.
      It does not rewrite history up to the end of the war, but could change the outcome of the war, without changing how it was seen:
      Gallifrey and the timelords vanish at the end of the war.
      The dalek vanish at the end of the war.
      The doctor takes an action that could cause it.
      Technically the history is as followed till now:
      The doctor does something and with it destroys the timelords and the dalek.
      How it would have been if the timelords did not fail with their plan from this episode:
      The doctor does something, but while it destroys the dalek, outside of gallifrey, gallifrey, the timelords and the dalek on gallifrey, get transportet into the future.
      The doctor still thinks he did destroy the timelords and the dalek.
      So from the PoV of the doctor nothing changed, from the PoV of the rest of the universe nothing changed. Till the point of the future, where the timelords traveled to.

    These specials just making it better of the Donna moments.
    Martha/Mickey yep some Sontarians.
    The Doctor watching over everyone.
    Even 2005 Rose is so good. Everything that changed I guess from Journeys End I guess because he had to refix them? I forget.
    I forgot about her. John Smith and Joan, her granddaughter years later writing a book.
    Ah the wedding. The wedding gift yep. Ah what they spend it on.

    I haven't seen Sarah Jane Adventures only most of Torchwood. No idea what to go off of other than just some minor inside/cameo stuff.
    Yeah the Master but expanding upon the events and him.
    I haven't seen Classic Who Master either but hopefully it ot works out well.
    Yeah the crossfire and the things that happened to them.
    At this point in the series yeah we see characters/villains come back every so often or change and more.
    Ah dead and many metaphors Doctor Who throws around all the time.
    I don't fully either. The Master and Time Lords they will cover it later over time.
    New Doctor, new things to consider.
    11th hour is a weird episode but the series always was weird and got weirder to a degree.

    The misdirection with the knocks is something else. It's interesting that they permited Ten to come to terms with their demise before it happened. And with how long was their run, it was nice to see their old companions again.

    So many people think the woman was his mother, because of the age difference. But these are *timelords* we're talking about, and the American movie indicates the Doctor's mother was human. When Wilf asks who she was, the Doctor looks to the bride. The woman was his wife.
    The timelords resurrected the Master when the time war began. They probably did the same with Rassilon near the end, hitting the proverbial panic button. They must have brought back the Doctor's wife somewhere in between, and he never knew, because... well. Spoilers.

    The Timelords are "effectively" dead. Time-locked just means it cannot be changed, at least by any normal time travel... aka they cannot escape their death, the cannot be saved, etc.
    And the Timelords were "mostly good" as in the society tried but some, like the Master were not, and some like the Doctor were very... helpful to life in the universe. The idea here is basically "war is hell" and during the Time War... survival was all, they broke their own code of ethics, they lived in hell long enough to be the "demons" and... the war had to end even if it meant death to the Doctor's people and or others.

    Goodbye to The Tenth Doctor 😢 and Hello to The Eleventh Doctor 😊.
    If we were to know everything about the Doctor's backstory including his family it wouldn't be Doctor Who? anymore no he's just an old ancient alien flying in a Police Box who can regenerate when he dies and that he cares and fights for the universe and humanity that's all we need to know about his background and taken the mystery out of it wouldn't be fun.
    Of course the intention was for the mysterious woman to be the Doctor's mother but showrunner RTD decided to keep that to our interpretation other theories suggest she might be his granddaughter Susan or Romana whose a character you haven't met yet.
    The Time Lords weren't always necessarily bad that's a NuWho thing to add more drama to the show.
    I have to say my opinion on this episode was the opposite I liked the first half better because I was more invested on what the Time Lords were up to why they are back and The Master's reaction and what his plan is and the Doctor escaping that was great I do like Wilfred but when The Doctor and Wilf started to have a conversation in the middle of the episode that's where it felt flat for me up and down with the episode because I didn't like the direction it was going with the Doctor's character and saying "I wish you were my dad" that felt abit too cringey and unnecessary.
    When the Doctor fell through the roof of the window from a long height from a spaceship and landing a big "thud" on the hard ground that should had immediately triggered a regeneration which i feel the writers missed a trick on.
    This was one of my least favourite regeneration stories others will disagree with me and that's totally fine but I felt the farewell with the companions dragged on far too long and the way the Doctor delivers his last lines "I can do so much more ! So much more!" or "I don't want to go" felt too self indulgent and I thought that was bad direction for the audience because to sets a bad example on not moving on which should be an exciting event but people get upset because David is not the Doctor but should be reminded that he's the same person which I feel they try to defriiate on that if that makes sense?
    It was an OK episode but I didn't like the regeneration and the whole blowing up the TARDIS that was far too melo-dramatic.

    Your face when Mickey and Martha are married! Yeah, I had a similar reaction. Cool/not cool. Not that this is a bad idea, but, yeah, I liked Tom, it feels kind of a throwaway to knock out two companion visits at once, and turned out to be mainly because of RTD's wanting Martha to end as Martha Smith-Jones and have another Smith and Jones joke. (He likes his Smiths and Joneses.) I mean, it would work with more setup, but it feels a little like throwing the only major black characters together, sorted.
    Good catch on the not writing in the book. It wouldn't have hurt to just write something, come on. I do recommend the show she and Tennant co-starred in, _There She Goes._ It's on Britbox.
