The 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Is A Freshly Redone Slightly Pricey Workhorse Truck

  • A redesigned #ToyotaTacoma doesn't come around very often and for 2024, #Toyota has really pulled out all the stops to keep the #Tacoma at the top of the sales chart in the midsize truck race. This #TacomaSR5 represents a lower end trim and despite its base truck vibes, the latest model comes with big upgrades in tech, power, and capability but that does come with a slightly inflated price compared to the previous model.

    46 grand for SR5 is absolutely ridiculous, it’s like paying 68 grand for a jeep wrangler! What is happening with those manufacturers? Has everyone lost their mind? Who in the right mind would pay 50 grand for a goddamned mid-side truck? You can get a fully loaded Honda Ridgeline for less than that! And we haven’t even started to see the prices for their hybrid versions yet… it is absolutely nuts!

      Toyota released an inexpensive truck for Thailand (Hilux Champ) and the Philippines (Tamaraw). It's starting price is only $14.5 USD. I'm very tempted to get one when I retire in the Philippines.

      Clearly wages have not been keeping up with inflation. Everything has gotten so damn expensive that it is no longer affordable for the common person. This Tacoma is just the latest example. Wages need to go up, or we need deflation.

      Ridgeline is a nice CUV with a bed. If you don’t tow, if you don’t go off-road, if you don’t need long bed, Tidgeline is good. But it is not used by one that use their truck for working or off-roading or towing

      Yeah and the rear seat space kind of takes it off my shopping list - Have 5'10 and 6'0 sons who aren't driving age yet and it looks like neither of them could fit back there well and $46k is also a little offensive to me for such a spartan midsized truck like this - Will have to check out the competition unfortunately... The Chevy Colorado seems like a much better value on paper anyway.

      It's fair pricing. '02 Taco SR5 Prerunner sold for about $22k. Accounting for inflation, today that would be $38k. That's the starting price for this '24 SR5 so it's fair. The affordability issue continues to be our paychecks not tracking with inflation

    • @watchreport

      Unfortunately due to CAFE regulations, just won’t be happening. The smallest “trucks” you can get these days are a Maverick or Santa Cruz. It all comes down to fuel economy.

The rest are part-time systems that are pretty annoying to live with (coming from a Ranger owner). SLIGHTLY PRICY!?!?! You’re being WAY too kind to Toyota. I just bought a brand new loaded Frontier SV crew cab long bed (long wheel base) for $39K OTD.
    $46K for a lower trim level 4 banger is NUTS. And that’s not counting the freak-show mark-ups from the dealer. I drove past a Toyota dealership yesterday and saw a new Tacoma out front stickered just shy of 70 GRAND!!

      That’s common for the segment. Higher trims will get front LED turn signals. The fact that you get standard full LED headlights and taillights, however, is above the segment norm. Competitors like the Colorado and Frontier get full halogen headlights on lower trims, with the former having incandescent taillights, too. So, having those are nice at least.

    Really digged the new model when they debuted it. Just saw one in person the other day and it was super underwhelming. Especially the rear.. maybe because it was a sr5 but I was not digging it. My bro picked up the new tundra and the quality was even more disappointing.. felt like I was going to break the upper arm rest area. Also, the rear bumper cap looked like it was going to fall off every time we put the step assist down.. wtf is going on with Toyota?

  • @KNRS927
    @KNRS927 Před 2 měsíci

    This is a good looking and nice truck that surely will be reliable, but you can get a Colorado and ridgeline with all this stuff for way less and Hondas are no slouch in reliability. Toyota trucks and cars, in general, just seem to be getting more expensive compared to its peers.

  • @MegaBlackley
    @MegaBlackley Před 2 měsíci

    4 cylinder and $ 45k = no sale. Love the body design; it reminds me of the Tundra but it doesn’t have the giant Art the Clown maw that the Tundra has. I dare say this is the better looking of the two trucks. , the wheels look cheap though and that tiny underpowered engine gives me pause from a long term perspective.

It will be the same power train as Taco and 4Runner TRD Pro and trail hunter. It might even be tuned with more low end torque. My buddy has a Taco TRD pro and I drove it many times as comparison. The new Tacoma SR5 visuals and drivetrain is a BIG FAIL compared to the Ford Ranger XLT. The Tacoma is noisier, looks cheaper, and has poorer 0-60, MPG, and payload/towing ratings YET costs more than the new Ranger XLT. The public is already speaking as discounts are showing up to move the new Tacoma inventory. Toyota reliability was in large part due to not making upgrades and keeping an ancient design in production/for sale for decades. Ford gives you the choice of turbo 4, PHEV, or TT V6. New cab configurations/drivetrains are launching in the Australian market first and later globally. Remember, Ford sells the Ranger globally from three production plants.

    The Nissan Frontier (new body) is the way to go for compact trucks being the cheapest and the Ram 1500 Tradesman (old body but still new) is the way to go for full sized trucks that are the cheapest. Even though they are the cheapest, they are still just BARELY affordable. Anyone thinking about being suckered into buying a new truck or SUV, think about your family first. Then go to your local mobile home dealer and take a look at singlewide trailers. That singlewide trailer costs less than that stupid pickup truck. That should make you reevaluate things. Buy a brand new trailer and you get a brand new home or buy it and rent it out and let someone else pay for it. Use your brains people. Stop letting these automakers rob you. When you buy overpriced vehicles you are creating a market for being robbed by a corporation. When you all do it you are normalizing it. 40k for a damn FULL-SIZED pickup isn't normal let alone a compact truck. It's not even inflation, it's corporate greed. They are recording record high profits while your bank statements are recording record low balances. THINK PEOPLE THINK!
