As mentioned, certain connections are made for coherency's sake, many writers taking part in the same lore causing confusion and conflicting descriptions. If you enjoyed the Red-Pill Blue Pill, check out the lore on Tharizdun, some fantastic, multiverse relevant stuff right there. Links below. Also, check out the Kickstarter, it has 49 Days to go and is all or nothing, so if you have ever lost a battle map to dry erase markers, check this out, link in the description.

I totally misread this as "Canadian" at first glance, got a little disappointed that it wasn't. Such a majestic race.
Bludgeoning resistance due to all the ice, hockey pucks and thrown bottles of beer. They don't have resistance to cold, they just don't consider cold the same way other people do and seem to have additional steps along the various stages of hypothermia.
Canadians are just Firebolgs with their invisibility skill swapped for cold resistance.
I love their flip top heads.
Lmao
Well... they appear kind on the surface, but secretly worship a chaotic evil diety. They may say "Amen" in churches, but they say "Aboot" everywhere else... They are actually gooey maple syrup beings that hide in the trunks of trees. I wish I could remember the name of the trees that house the Canadians... anyway... they love log cabins because it mimics a human dwelling while offering them a tree to melt into. Have you ever seen a Canadian INSIDE their log cabins once they draw the curtains on the windows? I think not, sir. I think not.
Man that paralysis attack with all of their immunities and perks due to their physiology make these things potential TPK fodder
Ghaunadan: All is One, One is All.
Mid level crime boss exacts discipline on an underling, scratching the surface of the ghaunadan, releasing the greenish ooze which then devours him totally, assuming his identity.
Silver play? bud you ought to have a golden one.
Naww, one day maybe.
Ya know, adventurers have enough trouble with slimes oozes and jellies disguising themselves as floors, ceilings, pools of water and lava as well as piles of snow. The last thing they need is a acidic pile of sludge talking to them before it lunges in for the kill.
Ah I love how out of abyss adventure actually built on this as *spoilers zzzzz*
A brothel that is a front for a cult sounds fun
There used to be a prestige class for an ooze mage or something. Always wanted to play around with that
There is indeed!
This is the kind of deep, freaky, lore I crave.
Always loved slimes and jelly creatures so these are cool af to me
People that need to get asked if something is too much for them are not invited to my games.
Ooooh yeah! Ancient eldritch madness!
Yours is the first Kickstarter I’ve ever backed. Fingers crossed that you get enough backers, really looking forward to the silicon sheets.
I want you to get some sheets SO BAD! lol, hope we get there.
I am excited, I am backing it when I get my paycheck in a couple days

I like the idea of Changelings and Doppelgängers in a shadow war against other kinds of shapeshifters. That could be a fun adventurer backstory
As a guy who works in the cleaning industry, there is a company called Jynx that makes an ink remover. It was used by American Airlines, on their leather seat covers, for ink stains(permanent and otherwise) and it worked great. Too great actually. Apparently no one was actually using it for years despite saying they were. When I first started, I noticed lighter patches where we removed the ink. I guess I didn't know I was supposed to just fake using it. After submitting the results, American airlines blocked usage on their entire fleet. This shit was so good, it removed the dye on the leather as well as the ink stains. That leather is burn tested constantly, so this isn't like car leather or upholstery. Jynx was removing the entire layer of gloss and beyond.
I will almost 100% guarantee that it will get the red out. Whether it gets the actual markings out too, is the question.
If you want an easy to find analog, it is basically straight up nail polish remover(acetone), just with a bit added... If you haven't, give that a shot on the red marks. It's a rather common household chemical.
Finally, magic erasers are really good at removing ink because of how ink sits on top of the actual surface of plastics, rather than sinking in deep. It does a marvelous job for permanent marker stains.
If you find something easy that works, you can turn your disclaimer into an exclaimer... "Gainst the fall of long marks, the material shall stand guard, and the ink shall be ward, for the red is no bar to my call" - Inscription on the Horn of Valere
good info!
This is the kinda stuff i subscribed for! Thanks AJ!
Hey AJ, not sure if you remember but years ago I asked if you could give me pointers for a half human half ooze player character. This is basically what I was imagining, thanks for making this video (never heard of these creatures before)
Indeed! You are most welcome SB.
That caricature is awesome. You should put that on a shirt. If you had stickers made, id buy one.
You know what would be interesting. A cult of slimes that recover their original minds, or free willed Oblex, that begin to break free after Juiblex lost some power when his avatar was defeated during the Rage of Demons. Just a tiny fraction that he lost concentration on, and become almost like a reverse-cancer in his body. Makes me think what a good god of Slime might be.
I have a species of skeletal beings similar to "newhan ghouls" (Lahnkmar), they are transparent humanoids that have visible skeletons. They, on their world, were survivors of Gellatanous Cubes who became raiders. They raid in the nude or in decayed materials to seem like skeletal warriors at night. Their non-skeletal flesh regenerates almost instantly if their skeleton is not damaged for the most part but it gets complicated after that.
Ghauradan: Multi-versal link.
Lore now applied. Just about every bit of my "Slime Skeletons" to my humanoid homebrew race apply to this being. For the most part, unless stressed, they are generally almost invisible humanoids with a visible skeleton... their only "solid" set of body parts that pretty much regulates how solid their transparent parts are.
Here is an idea about the chained god. He isn't truly imprisoned. His prison is a psychic effect that throws his own power back at him. The other aspects that seem seperate are more like different personas he whispers to himself with and the prison simply keeps them from coordinating. They seem seperate only because each can't directly talk to the other in the way other aspects of gods can because of his prison. Tharizdun is still aware of them but is too busy raging inside his own head to properly break the barrier down and bring them in line. Which is why keeping the barrier up is so important.
Heard he's the boss of 19 more Demon Lords.
@@jenniferphipps2012 Only being more terrifying then Obox-ob when it comes to the abyss. Tharizdun's power may have been what directed the mad sea of souls that is the abyss but it was Obox-ob's wit that seeded the ideas on where to go. Just one of them by themselves returned to full glory is a dire threat to creation. But chances are if one rose back to prominence then they both would. So both must be kept from ever regaining what they had.
@@jacobfreeman5444 if there is some original entity, i don't know if it even knows what it is. Competing for dominance with various incarnations of itself. Poor things.
@@tombirmingham7033 Think of them all as twisted reflections of the core entity. A mad power that is constantly gibbering and laughing to itself. It is all big game where if it ever got bored of all the pretty distractions it would just bulldoze over all of creation. Time doesn't matter to an entity that is beyond time. So it really doesn't matter how long it takes for any of the other aspects to achieve something. This entity has already won. When just don't know when that victory will materialize.
@@jacobfreeman5444 sounds like the entity is a metaphor for dnd players and GM's
Next player character confirm. Ghauadan dark elf wizard that was casted out from his home due to his less than conventional ways of getting the job done even for a dark elf. Now weakend from his wounds and thirsty for vengeance. Navarian will stop and nothing to fully understand this mysterious power he has uncovered.
Your videos keeping giving me so much inspiration please keep it up.
YES!! I’m about to run a campaign with a ghaunadan! Perfect timing!
Can never have enough ancient evils for adventurers to spar with and drive back into the fringes of the World where they belong.
100%
Remember: As a DM, always run the type of creepy stuff you plan on doing by your players first. Do Not Koebel Yourself.
(Thats not a jab at Adam, just an example within the TTRPG field. I am a huge fan of his and am patiently waiting for his return.)
Ah yes, the Koebel incident. Infamous.
Their infiltration aspect reminds me of the Founders from Star Trek DS-9.
Don't have the funds for the kickstarter right now but I'll share the info! Maybe next paycheck I'll get in on this awesome deal 🙂
Covid has hit my wallet hard, so I know how you feel
Thanks Joe!
@@epiccthulu Don't worry, it's not going to last forever.
My players ALWAYS know the world they are going into and they are realistic in understanding the potential of what can happen. They understand the more evil a villain is the more they will be compelled to grind its face into the side of a mountain. If you are playing with people who cannot handle mutilated children then they need to excuse themselves, not the other way around.
Reminds me of the Changlings from DS9
Hello AJ, never seen that monster before! He's great, going to use him for sure as a BBEG. Your explanation of monsters if so unique, nobody does what you do, nobody has the passion that you have. "That's where forbidden knowledge comes from". Love it, great explanation! I seen you in Wally's Top 10 video. Well, I did it AJ. I'm backer # 170. You are going to be a rich man someday AJ. Good luck on your kick-starter, I know in my heart it's going to be a great success.
Thanks AJ for all the years of fun and entertainment, you have a great day!
Thanks Matt!
Are the deities & primordials who have portfolios over slimes & oozes connected ex. Zargon, Ghaunadour? Spiritually or psionically? is one that's the overlord of them all?
Hmmm not sure about Zargon, but otherwise, seems so.
Anytime any Dungeons and Dragons CZcamsr asks who their fans want as a guest, I always plug AJ.
Another slime, another frost breath to spray before my path to lichdom starts early, inside a slime.
I can't help it. I interpret that when the elder god reached out, he caused all slimes and oozes to have the largest sneeze in existence. That collective loss of brain cells cause them all to loose it! I suppose we end up in the same place but...they look like...well you know...
I want an ooze-humanoid to escape from the party's warlock's pact blade, claiming to have had its mind restored after tens of thousands of years of insanity and division- claiming to have only escaped by rejecting Ghaunadaur and praising Juiblex.
I am torn between having an oblex spawn be birthed from the weapon's slimy acrid oozing cracks- or having a ghaunadan exit in full force.
An oblex would likely just be blasted to pieces, but I wish I knew a better way to mix the two angles together in a way that challenges the warlock's abanfonment of their patron and the consequences of denying a god while its demonic alter ego walks the planet..
Does anything come to mind?
"Obscene amorphous orgy" is not something I was ready for
Never mind. "You need the players consent before you go grinding up orphans" was way worse
@@AmigoRoberto Oops, that was supposed to be Consent! lol
I Love Ghaunadaur, him and Therizdun have such a unique flavor to them.
Just pledged for the 1st tier bag can't wait and I wish u all the best in this!
Those deep subterranean shrines give me heavy *The Festival* vibes
Will you ever make a video dedicated to ghaunador himself. True to his name I've been looking into his lore a lot but he simply lurks in other people stores, leaving only bits and pieces of information everywhere but it's like impossible to find a consolidated source on ghaunador.😊
One day maybe.
@@AJPickett yipee
Ghaunadan sound like one you can do a good short to a long con game with. Lost, forget who they are and transom into a slim at night.
Yay!
PERFECT! I have an old dungeon used by a lich the players will be exploring. The idea of this creature left alone with other slimes and becoming insane, give it an interesting personally and lots of pipes and grates, you'll have a sweet antagonist for the dungeon who drops interesting lore about the loch and what he was doing there. Could even keep it a secret they are an oozey boy too until attacked and they slide down the grated floor
think he's the other eye of that thing that keeps shitting out astral dreadnaughts and beholders?
Aj, I see what you're doing with the thumbnail; trying to signal the Viltrum Empire with that mustache. 😏
I love these guys! 💚💚💚💚
Ah, a favorite of mine. Then again I really like oozes.
These creatures sounds almost like changelings from Star Trek, The Founders. Neat.
Some deities just want to watch the multiversre burn down...
Is it weird that your avatar in the thumbnail looks like Omni Man from Invincible?
Nope, makes perfect sense.
Question AJ, what is the difference between an Oblex and a Ghaunadan? They seem very similar. I know the Oblex can imitate multiple people at once, and the Ghaunadan has its charm ability, but how does that come out in-play? Are they simply horses of different colors, but functionally the same, or am I missing something?
Totally different species. The Oblex kill people and spawn duplicates connected to the central slime mass, the Ghaunadan kill small animals for food, can paralyze with their slime, take on a singular humanoid form and have a charm ability.
That which Lurks is such a cool title.
Great, intelligent slimes that can take a semi humanoid shape... Thanks I hate it and I will still smite it with all the fire possible.
No, no.. fully humanoid, just green on the inside.
@@AJPickett Great, so it’s a game of Among Us or the movie It hiding in plain sight. That’s it, I’m burning the town down to rebuild it myself and making a list of all the residents names with images of their faces included. So when a Ghaunadan and a human love each other very much a oozes genasi is born aj?

As soon as I saw this pop-up I said, "Awe hells, how deep down the rabbit hole are we going to go?"
Edit: The bottom, we're going to the bottom. I would love to see you put together a whole expansion pack of Elder evils/ far realm stuff. Kind of like the history no one wants to remember.

I love these vids
Please share the Kickstarter I really want this and I have never pledged a Kickstarter before.
It is in the description www.kickstarter.com/projects/ajpickett/big-pockets-silicone-tabletop-rpg-products
After hearing your theories on Tharizdan, Guanadour, the obyrith and the far realm. I've had my own that the obyrith psionically contacted Tharizdan and when he opened the connection to let in the elder evils aspects of his mind were released. When you connect to the far realm you are actually entering parts of the mad god that were seperated but didn't obtain sentience like Guanadour and the elder Elemental Eye. Just another theory that may eventually work into a game.
Good theory
very cool
Dude I remember when there was only 7k....I broke up with my girlfriend and you really were the few things that made me feel better

I'm still surprised that pizza off the silicon didn't leave a permanently stain.
Not only that, the marker pen didn't rub off until I cleaned the mat with a damp cloth.

First Minute Squad. Also that little picture of you kinda looks like Omni Man
It does have heavy moustache energy.
Do you suppose the reason there are no good canon oozes in because there all aspects of ghaunadaur?
Ps Also do you suppose zargon could be a aspect of/related to ghaunadaur since he has one eye and become ooze when he dies?
Yes, and not sure, could be maybe but Zargon seems a bit, lacking in brains.
@@AJPickett what if his horn is an atena that relays information from ghaunadaur like a robot?

It's an arc most DM's go through, I think.
I loved all this Ghaunadaur stuff! Very cool part of DnD lore. Psyched for the Pandemonium vids though - I always felt like Pandemonium has a brutally futile vibe to it - where your screams are drowned out by a literal wind of more screaming. Maybe Pandemonium is, itself, a dying, screaming entity - it's body being painfully hollowed out like swiss cheese as things crawl through the holes.
Would you ever do a video just on Ghaunadaur? I love the mythos you have attributed to the combination of Thraizdun and the "Greater God of slimes"?

How did I only just hear of your Kickstarter???
Dunno, but you can pick up some battlemats from www.Dndwow.com
So is it confirmed anywhere that ghaunadaur is an aspect of tharizdun, or just heavily implied?
I would say pretty damn heavily implied.
That and in Critical Role the Somnovem could be a creation of Tharizdun. The same descriptors used for Tharizdun have been used for the Somnovem. So a connection is possible.
Hay man can you do one on the leonin player race
Love the video...and I have some legit questions. They are a sentient race, yes. But are they more like Elementals/Outsiders or Material beings? Would they, say, have a silver chord when they astral project? Yochols are demons, but would ghaunadons have souls?
They are prime material beings with souls, so yep, silver cords and everything.
@@AJPickett thanks for the answer, that sort of thing matters when it comes to spells like Magic Jar. I believe with beings who are their souls, like demons, they would be trapt in the jar without leaving behind a material body. But these slime bois could get mind swapped into a gem while a sorcerer gets a new slime body...
Where can I find this for both pc and monsters it fun to play with
Eldritch abominations walking among us? Oh yeah, this is just my type of upsetting. 👌
SLIME GREEN IS MADE OF PEOPLE.
Finally, an explanation for Katie Perry's popularity. Haven't used these, but might have to now. Would also be a cure for randy bards. Heh....

At 15:07 you mention the lady of pain as being optionally connected to these other gods. I thought she was a power completely unrelated to the gods, is there any lore about her being something other than an unknowable power
Absolutely none, and nor should there ever be.. I just love toying with the idea.
