In this Rise of the Beasts video essay, we delve into the highly anticipated Transformers film, "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," and explore why it left us yearning for the earlier Michael Bay Transformers films and ultimately fails as an adaptation of the beloved Beast Wars series, AND...questionably includes G.I. Joe.
⭐️ A Step Backward in the Transformers Universe
While the Transformers franchise has undergone numerous iterations over the years, Beast Wars holds a special place in the hearts of many fans. Unfortunately, "Rise of the Beasts" seems to have taken a step backward in terms of storytelling and character development, leaving us wanting more. The Maximals are hardly utilized outside of Optimus Primal, and Rise of the Beasts lacks the overall heart and emotional connection that made Bumblebee so successful.
💥 Missing Michael Bay's Signature Style
Say what you will about Michael Bay's Transformers films, but they undeniably had a distinct style and grandeur that kept us on the edge of our seats. "Rise of the Beasts" fails to capture that same level of excitement, with its subdued, bland, concrete action sequences and lackluster visual effects, leaving us longing for the explosive and visually stunning spectacles that defined the earlier films.
🦖 A Lackluster Adaptation of Beast Wars
Beast Wars introduced us to a unique and captivating storyline, exploring the conflict between the Maximals and Predacons in their animalistic forms. However, "Rise of the Beasts" fails to fully embrace the essence of Beast Wars, leaving fans of the original series feeling disappointed and disconnected. Not only that, but the Maximals are hardly in the film! Moreover, we address the controversial inclusion of G.I. Joe in this new Transformers film. While crossovers can be exciting, the forced integration of these two beloved franchises feels like a desperate attempt to reinvigorate a dated brand. We explore the missed opportunities and creative limitations that arise from this collaboration, ultimately leaving us disheartened with the direction of the Transformers franchise.

What did YOU think of Transformers Rise of the Beasts? 😅 Is the Transformers franchise in a better place? Comment below!💥
Rise of the beasts is the best live action transformers
Bro Micheal bay ruined the franchise this video of yours i strongly disagree even if this movie isn't the best it is atleast third best movie of franchise.
Bro you just need to get some sleep Cuz yo are talking rubbish. Because Transformers Rise of the beasts is the best Transformers movie of all time like legit man. I think filmspeak is seriously disturbed! You gotta get help.
By the way, Rise of The Beasts and Bumblebee are reboots. They don't fit in the Michael Bay's Transformers movies.
Hello FilmSpeak
I feel the exactly the same I feel like they needed Michael Bay and yeah I grew up on those Michael bay transformers movies and they had a much better Social commentary on the Immigration having the transformers as Literal Aliens being hunted down by the humans after T3 because that how it always is "my enemy of my enemy is my friend " until they complete their purpose and then get rid of them, they even talk about Police Brutality and the ideas of Commercialism stealing the transformers identity to make something altered.
yes can the stereotypical robots be hmmmm yes they can but the point is they have a policital message about the world we are in today U just got to peel back the layers of the Michael Bay Transformers films (in which in my opinion are extremely Underrated)
The new movie is good it needs a longer runtime but it can (its needs to be) be better
As for the new franchise I'm both scared and hopeful it may be good but as of right now, I feel like I'm missing a huge delicious flavor that Michael Bay brought to the table
I think the overcomplex design of the Bay films are much cooler than these ones. That's one of the core things that got me interested in the films when I was little
Same. The over complex bots make their transformation so much more that great
It's called good design
@@PieroMinayaRojashunks of metal aren’t good
@@zaisfantasticdiscoverys7710armored humanoid is not good either
@@baphometh5531 why wouldn’t a advanced alien species that is currently in a war and is capable of traveling to different planets have armor
I also hate how people say that Michael Bay ruined the franchise. No he didn't he actually helped the franchise be relevant and without his movies you wouldn't get the amazing shows like Transformers animated and Transformers prime.
Yes!
Straight facts. I know for certain i wouldn't have known or cared about Transformers if i didn't grow up watching his movies.
Transformers 1-3 you could tell were passion projects for Michael bay. And it just oozes with love and respect for the characters. Transformers 4 and 5 were cash grabs and feel like the studio forced him to make the movie. The first 3 Transformers were extremely underrated.
I definitely agree with your comment
Agreed. I really like Sam.
HELL YEA FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT
@@Comicbroe405Sam is great
2 was so shit lol
I went back and rewatched Transformers (2007) after seeing ROTB and realized, "We really to the first one for granted." The action, music, characters, and cinematography were far ahead of what we are getting today.
Youre kidding yourself. That movie is cringy as shit and there arent really any transformers in the Movie. The action wasnt that great.
@qtsssim no that movie did not make a lot of sense. Like the fact that Megs got lost in the Arctic trying to find the cube.......so how did he imprint on the glasses the coordinates? Simply put, if he had them he wouldnt have had to go anywhere near the poles. Starscream didnt have any issues.....also.....how did he get there? We can just fly to cybertron now, which is a whole galaxy away? He doesnt appear to move at lightspeed. Also why didnt Optimus just tell sam to shove the cube in Megatrons chest to begin with? If they knew it would only kill the bot who did that......seems like an easy solution to me. Also is the US military so dumb they couldnt have figured any of the hacking out? For all Bays military love he doesnt always paint them as the most competent. I can assure you the military would have very quickly figured out the decepticons were hacking the system. This was all to find the glasses? How did they know they existed and could take them where they wanted to go?
@@zachariahsmith9130
Megatron wasn't lost, he crash-landed on earth, it can be explained by a lot of things like the new gravitational pull, and we know most transformers can't deal with freezing cold from other transformers continuities. Megatron knew where the cube was, it's an energy source that he can detect as long as it's not shielded by the military like what was done in the movie later on by sector 7.
Starscream can travel pretty fast in his cybertronian form, all transformers in their protoforms can when they take the form of a meteor, starscream arrived the same way the autobots did, even by the end of TF07 we saw him transform into a new advanced form to reach the fallen. Starscream isn't limited to his F22 speed. He is an alien robot lol.
Optimus didn't know for sure the cube can kill him or Megatron, according to his discussion with ratchet, the allspark is an energy source, ratchet said it could destroy them both, however what of it wasn't enough to kill? That would result in powering Megatron up lol, even a shard revived him from the dead, imagine what would happen if he survived the energy of the whole thing??? It's GG.
The military ain't dumb, the deceptions mainly used cybertronian coding so the military wouldn't know what was hacking their database.
@knightofthelake8112 one he was lost. That half assed explanaituon doesnt cover it. That didnt happen to any other transformer. Dont act like that was a logical explanation. Im much smarter than you are (no offense) so inconsistencies will be picked apart
You explanation for starscream proves my point. He wasnt faster than megatron in vehicle mode. Watch the movie
Clearly they did know the cube would kill Megatron, Ratchet flat out says it
No the miltary isnt dumb, thats my whole point. I dunno if you were ever in the military but if you dont think they take aliens serious, youre insane. They would have recognized that immediately and would have been trying to figure out what aliens and not what country. Trust me on that
@@zachariahsmith9130
Again it's not stated that he is lost so I don't know how you reached such a retarded conclusion, the Allspark can be detected as proven by sector 7 when they had to shield it in order to cover the energy it emits constantly, megatron simply can locate it via his sensors and engrave the coordinates. All the info you need is there, if you are indeed smarter than me you wouldn't need me to explain things to you.
You can say you are more knowledgeable than me and I wouldn't comment on such statement, on the otherhand you have no way of knowing whether you are smarter than me or not, it's not like we went through an IQ test together lmao. Your arrogance is the sign of an immature man 💁
The transformers can't survive freezing temperatures unless they turn off their systems, it's already a thing in other continuities (Transformers Prime) where optimus and arcee were gonna die because of that.
Starscream being slower than megatron is your head canon, the seekers in most continuities are faster than megatron anyway and starscream is one of them, his speed isn't limited to his earthling vehicle mode.
Ratchet said that the cube's raw power COULD DESTROY THEM BOTH, optimus wasn't sure in the first place when he said he would fuse it with his spark, ratchet simply told him that in worst case the energy might be too much for him and in return it might be enough to kill him. With megatron they have no way to know if it will be too much for him, worst case scenario would be that he might get a power up.
You are too stuck in your hater boner that you can't even make sense.
This is my last reply so you are free to say whatever the hell you want 👍
You can crap on Michael bay all you want but homie knows how to shoot an action film
i think it has the batman vs superman problem, where it tried to do a big thing too fast. Like Unicron was supposed to be the biggest villain in the verse, but its only the second film and i don't think they've even mentioned Megatron in either reboot films. They also wanted their "Endgame finale" scene but the thing that made that work was the culmination of all the the Marvel characters, but there"s not even 10 characters total in the final scene.
i think they should have been done a classic autobots vs decepticons type thing for this movie. it would be a better start (i don't count bumblebee as a start considering it's a spin off)
@@apperushredder autobots vs decepticons would be cool, tho the bumblebee movie is mentioned in the ROTB so i would be inclined to believe that it is the starting point
@@CherrySumBurst i mean it would be a better start after the events of bumblebee. you get it wrong i am not saying they were unrelated. i mean imagine a live action movie in G1 like designs with a final battle with The Touch
Unicron was more of a Insert Anime "The Movie" type villain then an overarching bad guy. Just one and done. If anything the Quintessons were a bigger threat then Unicron who ended up as just a head orbiting Cybertron.
BvS did have that problem, but still handled it wayyyy better than ROTB. At least it made sense in BvS. That doomsday was 14% capacity of the real doomsday and still clipped Superman. Badass representation of the power scales for characters that aren’t even introduced yet.
ngl i was fine with them not giving a lot of time to the humans. noah was cool but it would get old if he was crying the whole movie and the other girl honestly was just there.

You know what I hated the most about Iron Man’s character in the MCU? All the different suits when Mark III was perfect, not like his character is about upgrading, nooo. Transformers shouldn’t *transform* their appearance either
@@mroscar7474 Its like you ignored completly what my point is, bumblebee has 3 models in his movie, shatter and dropkick too.
But they in any moment, completly change their arm size or head /body ratio, because that would make them look weird.

-ROTB fans when someone fuu6ks their wives (its ok because its optimus prime, and if the transformers have more screentime nothing else matters)
Even though I really enjoy the first 4 as well as RotB I actually COMPLETELY agree with you. I’ve recently rewatched them all and all I could think of is exactly what you said: Bay’s framing and action shooting is unmatched. And an all-CG robot fight doesn’t come anywhere near that level of technicality.
What i love about this movie is that both the humans and the transformers had a balanced screen time and the characters had a lot of personality, but unfortunately for the Bayverse the humans got more screen time than the transformers, the only bots that had characterization was Optimus, Bee and Megatron, the rest of the bots and cons were just used for battle scenes
Sentinel Prime had a lot of great characterization and was more than just a generic bad guy like how all the villains are in the other transformers films, but that's just my opinion.
@@godzilla5742 true but don’t get me wrong i love the Bayverse movies they are the reason why im into transformers but i just wished the transformers had more screen time and the only humans i liked during these movies were Lenox, Epps and Simons

People said there is too many cutaway and shaking cam that make no sense, it doesn’t take long that they’re lying by a simple conclusion of war movie, which Transformers happen to be one, it’s not Marvel/DC
I think it’s refreshing that the final battle does not take place in a major city and without the involvement of the military. That aspect of the previous films have been done to death. Plus it showcases the transformers more with the only human characters being the 2 main ones we followed throughout the film. Which is what most fans seem to want, more transformers and less humans. Sure, there are things that could have been done better, but by no means do I miss Bay. I liked 1-3, but after that it just kept getting worse and worse and more of the same.
Thing is... does it have to make place in a mass of grey against grey bad guys? Like even the first trailer which had this colored brown at least looked somewhat more visually interesting.

i hate that they included g.i.joe in the tf universe, they can't even get it right with the huge ass main tf cast and they decided to add even more characters to the roster.
Bay formers robots werent overdesigned. It's just haters who wanted their stupid G1 designs in live action. the first scene of bumblebee looked like videogame, not like something you would see in an alien world.
Preach brother, straight facts are coming out of your mouth
Thank you. I could go on an entire rant about why Bayverse Devastator is infinitely better than his G1 counterpart and should be the gold standard of combiners, but I won't. Like I do like the BBM designs for the characters we see on Cybertron, but I'm so sick of people acting like they're perfection. They were made in a rush after test audience feedback and it shows, with all of them reusing bits of the cast from the rest of the movie. There are some who look better than their Bayverse counterparts, don't get me wrong (Soundwave and Arcee spring to mind) but there are also some who are absolutely blown out of the water by their Bayverse counterparts. BV Starscream and Shockwave are just better designs than their BBM counterparts, and I honestly think BV Ironhide is the best version of the character. I'm just so fed up with everyone sucking off the rush-job designs in the intro because "muh G1" and ignoring the same movie's absolutely incredible designs that genuine effort went into like Shatter, Dropkick, Bee, and motherfucking Blitzwing, who I think is the absolute perfect blend of Bayverse and classic aesthetics.
Bro this mf is spitting. to hell with them g1 glazing boomers they should’ve stayed in the 80s
Bro this mf is spitting 😂🙏🏽🙏🏽
I can only speak for myself. Because I'm just speaking for myself. But I do think the Bayformers' designs were overdesigned. But at the same time, I can acknowledge that a blank slate isn't really good either. G1 was littered with issues. Look no further than Megatron. He's quite basic. Very. Great design that could be less simple but great design overall. Personality wise. Eh. Fits the show and the time, but he is a blank slate. Same could be said about Optimus. But they are ground work. Optimus stands for what is right while Megatron doesn't. A good example of starting from the groundwork of G1 and going with some thing new but simple. Animated. Transformers Animated the show. Optimus isn't the Autobots leader. Megatron is stereotypical. Megatron is a bully. Watch the show, and you'll see it. I Loved the show mostly due to the designs, but overall, the show didn't have that many bland characters. Yea there is Lugnut and Blitzwing. But right there is an excellent jump off point. Like how did Blitzwing become a Triple changer? And how far does Lugnuts loyalty to Megatron go? And it was a show with just 3 seasons. A 4th was going to come BUUUT somebody got it canceled. Damn foreigner
I think another problem with this movie was the dialogue. Now I’m not gonna pretend that the writing for the bay movies were ingenious or anything but some of the lines in those movies were just cold. “What would you be without me prime?” “Time to find out.” That was so frikin raw. But here all the one liners are all stuff that we’ve already seen in thousands of other movies.
Except for the line, "Time to show you the real power of the Primes!" That was a cool one.
@@rocksreviewsreactions337 but kinda missplaced specially when Prime just shoved his big glowing energon sword up The Evil Guy's Mouth. Could've been better added in a comeback after getting beaten for a couple of minutes when he gets mocked again, then show Prime be ruthless in his moves.

I agree this movie could have been better but it wasn't bad and the action wasn't hard to follow.
Honestly the only things I wish were different: spent more time with the maximals and the ending with that job interview scene
This pretty much sums up what I thought of the film. For me, an easy 8/10. I liked it.
I would rather have the Maximals have more screen time than the Autobots because I love those characters and this is the first time we’ve seen them in Live Action form. I still had a great time though, just could’ve wished I’d see them more especially in their robot modes.
I wanted to see more examples of the power of the Terra/Terrorcons. Making a deal with the biggest bad in the Transformers universe, they should have been overpowering and showing off OP weapons left & right. Every time they were on the screen should've been a "they can do that??" or "they're that strong??" moment. We get a few with Scourge, but the other two are neglected. Nightbird deserved better
@@KevinJohnson-cv2noI completely agree the other two aside from scourge felt sorta like a let down, we should’ve seen a lot more back story on them when they pleaded their loyalty to unicorn originally
it was awful
I found this film to be passable, not as heartfelt as Bumblebee, not as visually dazzling as Transformers 2007 (and half of the third one), but I had a good time. But that's also the problem; "a good time" or "passable" isn't enough to carve out a niche for audiences to keep coming back and to keep the franchise fresh. I don't think bringing back Bay is the answer, just if Caple Jr learn a few new visual tricks if he is to stay on board.
My little complaint was while Optimus Primal and Airazor had a lot of great scenes, Cheetor and Rhinox were all but wasted! Come on, give my favourite feline transformer some time to shine alongside Bumblebee! And Rhinox didn't even get a line, when he's supposed to be the smartest of the Maximals

I agree, it had a human story and a bot story and neither was disregarded. Offering a criticism, could have been more beasts in the "rise of the beasts"
Nah this was focused on humans and autbots as well as the predators were sidelined. The real characters I hate that were sidelined were the maximals, I am so tired of the human plots, just have a transformers movie with just transformers, like there are alot of good characters in their universe. Instead of making just cardboard cutouts for human characters

i liked the film, but i think they played it too safe, tried leaning to both action packed and heartfelt aspects of Bay and Knight, without succeed in anything. They could've removed the Bayformers generic plot and focused in developing humans and the bots too. There's so much potential in the Autobot, Maximals and even Terrorcons, but somehow they couldn't be decisive and displayed these characters the blandest way possible... well at least Prime, Primal and Mirage are interesting. I'm just disappointed we didnt get enough.

My biggest problem with this movie is that I wasn't in awe of the transformers like I was in the other transformers movies
Yeah that comes from a mix of camera work and music.
Or the fact that this is the 7th movie
@qtsssim so again im not knocking you but there are some important factors here. You have an era of transformers movies made by people who didnt care about the property. So they made these transformers that looked different and really its that aspect that has affected your perception. The other factor is devil in the details. Watch how the transformers in ROTB transform.....actually pay attention and stop trying to be in awe of moving cgi things. Then i want you to pull out optimus primal and MP optimus prime and transform them.........youll then understand that this movie was made by a real fan of the property and lore. Its not even close. I appreciate nuance.
@@zachariahsmith9130 I think you have a good point. We are appreciating different things.
Honestly, they were basic. I need Michael Bay’s explosions and big d*ck energy
"I honestly don't know where they're going with this character (Bumblebee)." In retrospect, that problem existed in FOC. He was just there to die, too, and it was quite the shame, considering he's the guy we play as in the first chapter.
It was so obvious that he was just there because of brand recognition and continuity. This movie is stuffed with so many characters to the point where the writers went "ain't we need to make more room for these new ones, let's temporarily kill off the character that already had his own solo film, it's time for these other characters to shine" lmao
Also, has anyone noticed that in modern films there's a daytime scene that has this weird cgi fog?
bayverse has better soundtrack and sound design
Better action too
Yeah I’m gonna be honest, I like the unique twist they did on Optimus in this movie. We’re always so used to this kind humble, and welcoming Optimus Prime personality in the movies and other shows, but in this one they made him more aggressive and hostile and easily agitated, along with constantly suspicious of anyone and more quick to be rough and violent. But there’s still that character to him that let’s you know “That’s Optimus Prime“, They didn’t do too much with it but they did it enough so that we would notice.
He was like this in Age Of Extinction, but Rise Of The Beast did him much better💯
Yeah, and by then end he’s more like his classic self, so it’s nice to see like an “origin story” for why he respects humans and why he cares about them.
Meh ROTB Prime was just AOE Prime without the betrayal, which just makes him look like a dickhead for no reason.
The reason with AOE worked is because we spent three movies seeing all the faith Prime had on humanity and all the people he killed for em, only to get even more death. AOE showed consequences and stakes and humans for what they are: hypocrites...humanity never really cared about another species besides their own and if that meant upgrading theirs, who cares about another one? After all it's what Sentinel and Megs did in the previous movies, thus the name of the movie itself.
Lockdown is the only "villain" that doesn't care about Cybertron, because this movie ain't between Cons vs Bots, or beliefs like in DOTM, but about 2 species.
what do you mean "we're always so used to this kind humble and welcoming optimus"? the bayverse had been crushing that perception about the dude. people have been complaining about optimus getting edgy for years.
So bay optimus bad but rotb optimus good even tho they act mostly the same?

Easily the best movie
Best one imo
I feel like they only included the Maximals because they knew the BEASTS would attract attention to fans and non fans alike. Because the movie was mostly the Autobots vs. The Terrorcons with only the Maximals in the background, only two of which had significant roles. I’m sure they’ll include a spin-off featuring the Predacons but that’s besides the point.
Well steven already said to fan that a beast wars spin off could be amazing, but i think they will do that if the reboot show and actual success
I feel like a mix of the Michael Bay Spectacle and Scale and the G1/Bumblebee simple and down to earth tone would go perfectly but for some reason they can only do one or the other and it’s really frustrating, something tells me there’s something going on behind the scenes like Hasbro or Paramount won’t let them for some reason, either that or filmmakers working on these movies just can’t do it for some reason.
yeah i definitely felt some studio interference
Paramount needs to go to bankrupt and the Transformers rights should be handed to Lionsgate or Universal
So Like a Live-Action TFP (Transformers Prime) 😀.
If they kept the designs as simple as in the bumblebee movie…they probably wouldn’t fit the environment as well. That opening scene in bumblebee is fully cgi…so obviously they look good there. Bay was actually smart for going with the realistic, metal designs. Honestly, Caple’s concepts had potential and could’ve worked…but I think it was a mistake going with him as director…he’s literally never worked with cgi prior to this. I’ll never understand why they felt it was a good idea for him to direct a transformers movie this early in his filmography.
I honestly like bayverse design more than g1 bayverse design felt how a alien race would look
I have never seen someone try to push their politics harder onto a movie
Right? Like Noah asking where Wheeljack is from and he says Cybertron and calls him a racist haahahhaha. So cringe
Not gonna lie I thought I was only one that I noticed that it kind of feels like he’s pushing an agenda honestly, I didn’t mind this movie. I don’t think it’s as good as the movie at all. And I do like the bay, former movies, but this feels like nostalgia like I vividly remember how shit the second movie was or how terrible the fourth and fifth movie are that I choose to forget they even exist like bumblebee Fighting nazi is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard. And also the way they shot the movie for the last two was really bad in my opinion. I will always say the first and third one we’re peak. But I’m not gonna act like Michael Bay is the greatest Director ever there was a lot of flaws in the way he conducts his movies. I really don’t miss him that much. I think they just need to figure Director and stick with him. I am pissed that they didn’t go with the guy that did bumblebee. I think he did a wonderful job.
@jeff3221 Also, making Optimus racist even though his whole morals are freedom is the right to all sentient beings.
Bays films aside from the first film struggle with many of the same story problems that this film did. But they were kinetic and exciting and felt like they were trying to make you google at the effects and their use. This film feels more naturalistic and grounded but it lacks energy and it more importantly lacks a clear focus for the action and story integration. Fight scenes don’t naturally occur. They feel they are fighting with the tone and the aesthetic choices of the narrative elements (except for the first police chase which is quite fun)
There’s nothing I want more in my movie about robots beating each other up is an in-depth analysis of systemic racism and the military industrial complex
Yeah ngl he’s right about this movie being bland but the moment he got to that I started zoning out lol
I'm curious as to how this "washed out" look became SO popular.. I mean every movie from as far back as Eternals, ALL just want to "wash out the colors" of every single movie.. How and WHY did all these films (across companies) suddenly think this was a good idea? And how do they POSSIBLY think this is "different and new"??? It's all ANYONE is doing.
So y’all complained about the bayverse being too focused on the humans, and now you’re complaining about this movie being more focused on the TRANSFORMERS as the title suggests? Interesting.
I think that people just expect too much sometimes. I can admit and notice that this movie had problems, but a movie can’t be perfect. 🤷♂️ And some of the issues I hear people complain about are pretty petty. I know people have their own opinions. but when they get mad at the movie and hate on it for not giving them every single thing they wanted, it’s just dumb.
Because keeping the transformere on a lower screen time makes them a novalty and makes them exciting. When its overplayed, people want to start seeing something new
Dawg, no, it doesn't. The autobots have no personality, and the plot focuses on the humans solving all the problems and saving the day and coming up with all the plans instead of the ancient intelligent cybertronians
Also for me it's the cinematography. The angles, the movement, and like you said, the framing. Rise of the Beasts kinda feels like a mix of previous transformers plot points but lacking the immersive camera work.
Character-wise, when Elena said "It's in Peru" I almost burst laughing. Maybe there was some early Peru reference I missed?
As to why Mirage is here, I think the film would have been more boring without him. I think you might be expecting another Bumblebee type relationship. Specifically, Mirage is quippy to reduce his nervousness and ease the severity of the situation. He reminds me of Spider-Man who is always cracking jokes during fights, Tony Stark who remains cool despite walking amongst gods and monsters, and TMNT Michelangelo who enjoys himself more than his brothers. And yet he is still willing to make the sacrifice play when it is necessary.
That being said there certainly is some untapped potential between Noah and Optimus. I agree Noah's destruction of the key should have been the real climax. The racist lines should have been replaced with dialogue on how the autobots, maximals and predacons have traveled through space before and why they can't leave without the key. Then with this information Noah would still make the choice to destroy the key because he believes there could be another way to send Optimus back home.
I also knew Bumblebee would return knowing he was sidelined so others could get more screen time. I don't know if I hate this choice but I does feel cheap. Also notice they avoided showing Airazor's death, the only character to remain dead. Had they shown this they could have emphasized Primal's beef with scourge.
For a similar but more stylistically consistent film where a family stops an alien from eating the planet checkout Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer.
The camera did a single take battle scroll with CGI. If you understand anything about film making.....youd understand how hard that actually is. Its better than anything Bay could ever do.
@@zachariahsmith9130 That's interesting. I guess I prefer to be in the action and not outside of it or above it. As to how difficult it is I have no idea. I know that in live action it would take many tries, even multiple days. In 2-D animation you just go frame by frame changing the foreground, background, and characters in each frame. How is this story any better than the Bayverse films? Its a McGuffin hunt to stop Unicron... feel like there's a Bayverse film that has that story...
Optimus is characterised the almost the exact same as he is in the Bayverse: he cares but more often than not, he's just a raging killing machine.
Bayverse is 600 times better than this new universe
Not a bad movie but completely feel like it’s a kids movie now, like the new marvel movies, I feel like Michael bay’s transformers (at least the first 3) was the equivalent to the old marvel, even tho the movies had their flaws, there were a lot of absolute badass moments, plus great music, great moves, great cars, great cgi, it felt “adult” and real instead of a kids movie like it does now. It’s like comparing the original Spider-Man Trilogy to the new spider man movies, it’s definitely not the same level of excitement. Even Optimus feels bland af now and feels like a random robot unlike the badass he was in Michael bay’s take.
I agree with a lot of your points. When you take a look at the praise heaped on ROTB, a lot of it boils down to people saying "compared to the Bay films, this was so good!" They can only compliment it in contrast to something many magnitudes worse. People are so starved for decent stories set in this franchise that any film with even a sliver of actual heart seems outstanding by comparison. A decade of bayverse has skewed the fanbase's perception of what makes a "good" story, since for years the bar has been so appallingly low.
The story was pretty nice, but you want a transformers story with a REALLY good story? The Cybertron games, Transformers Prime, Beast Wars, Transformers Animated, and IDW's MTMTE comics

Everyone shit on him, but in the end, he was the one who put the most heart when it came to detail and an immersive experience. He may not be the greatest story teller, but he knows what he's doing. Much like a person can tell a story on a canvas, Bay knew what the hell he was doing.
This movie felt like i was watching a generic superhero movie. I can't think of a better way to put it
I think it's a pretty good movie, better characters than any we have seen from Bay and I really don't think it looks bad. You can actually follow the action compared to alot of what you see from bay. I am a long time fan of the property though and definitely have a bias
I dont think i can agree with better characters as its basically the same just with primal and air razor added. Most of michael bays action in the first 3 movies were easy to follow
@@Bigmanwaffle yeah....no only HALF of the battles in the bayverse as a whole were easy to follow, especially when some of the fights focused too much on the humans, had too many cutaways and shaky camera movements. You don't get that in most of the action scenes in bumblebee/rotb.
The characters are better represented here, even if some don't get alot on screentime and only serve as background characters, it's not to the same extent as what the bayverse did
@@Kaiju-bm4ts what characters are better represented. When i talk about bayverse i mean 1-3. In 1 you can easily tell whats happening in the action. In 2 its a little harder but when it matters you can tell as well(the forest fight, the fight at the beginning, and bumble bee vs rampage). In 3 same thing applies all the 1 on 1 fights are clear and the scenes where it matters its quite easy to make things out
@@Bigmanwaffle and guess what? Tf1-tf3 still have the issues tf4-5 had so what difference does it make?. Saying in tf2 "it's a little harder" isn't a good point to make when it shouldn't be harder PERIOD to follow the fights. Using bumblebee vs rampage isn't even a good example when that fight has unnecessary shaky camera angles and too many cutaways for what was essentially a short fast paced fight. Do I even have to bring up most of bee vs barricade in tf1 happens offscreen and the most we get is the car chase?. That's more than tf5 obviously but not by much.
Realistically only tf1 and tf3 had the closest to nearly all their fights being well to follow but that doesn't excuse introducing characters just for most of them to serve as background characters or optimus acting out of character and megatron being sidelined TWICE. Plus we gonna ignore how the writer's strike affected the story of tf2? And even bay called it crap?. Tf prime was inspired by the bayverse and yet did what the bayverse couldn't half (if not most) of the time
what does the writers strike gotta do with a fight? I never said tf 2 was a good movie. In tf3 megatron was sick of fighting and only wanted to go home and be in charge so it makes sense he was sidelined. Guess what my guy most characters introduced in rotb were sidelined as well. Tfp was a show spanning several seasons its not fair to compare it to 2 movies. Also please tell me when prime acted out of character besides maybe the beginning and end of tf2. Bee vs barricade being offscreen was simply to save budget. Optimus vs megatron and the autobots vs brawl i believe are better examples
Exactly my words brother. The Michael bay movies had some style. This one is just bland. Action is bleh. Writing is just lines that we've heard hundreds of times before, exept for maybe 2-3 moments.
For me it was the STAKES in the movie. It felt way was too safe. Yeah, two maximals died, I didn’t CARE about at all or even remember. Bumblee’s death/resurrection didn’t look convincing compared to how prime died/resurrected in rotf, so I wasn’t surprised when bee came back. (Not to mention they revealed it all in the trailers which was stupid) the final battle felt too safe, mirage survives at the end, And the fact that It didn’t feel like there were many consequences. Everyone’s has a Victory at the end and it just felt so bland and unsatisfactory. Even the humans can win fights against spider cybertronians with no effort. Scourge was felt like a genuine threat until the middle of the movie. The next movie, they need to bring some serious consequences and stakes to the table. (No pun intended)
2007 & DOTM captured the high stakes and serious threats perfectly. You actually felt like everyone was in real danger. Like it was near the end of a series….It had more of a sad and dark tone to it
I think we don’t realize how much we’ve damaged summer blockbusters when we complained about the destruction in Man Of Steel.
Now every final battle takes place in an empty backdrop which is as far away from civilization as possible
That's like when Star Wars sequels started coming out and everyone began appreciating prequels.
I must be in the minority where i’ve always been able to tell which transformer is which in the bayformer movies. Maybe it’s cuz I play games and can handle the sensory overload, but idk
I dont care what anyone says but in my opinion even before watching rise of the beasts i dont think any director will ever top michael bay in creating the most spectacular movies the only director who could be at par is steven speilberg but he is retired
Michael Bay is the king of action but simply falls very short when it comes to writing and storytelling.
I cannot judge base on story, because all Transformers's story so far has their own charms (to me at least). But what makes Bayverse transformers set apart is the mechanical feel (except the nano-decepticon transformers) when these robots transforms. I don't get the same feel with the non-bayverse transformers.
I don't understand why people think the Bumblebee movie was so good when it really wasn't. It was a largely plotless film with nothing for the characters to do that made any sense.

Dark of the Moon is one of the best action movies of the past 15 years. The best use of IMAX 3D next to Cameron's Avatar, phenomenal score, and absolutely brazenly incredible action. The opening action scene in Chernobyl in Dark of the Moon tops anything in Rise of the Beasts.
Thank you, you get it
Too bad the Autobots don't get to do anything because we have to focus on Sam getting a job and goofy jokes with Ken Jeong. I actually disagree with you on the Chernobyl bit. Shockwave does NOTHING. There wasn't a fight. It was the drill worm appearing for 30 seconds. And the next time we see Shockwave, he gets taken out(blinded) by humans and a parachute. The action of building falling may be neat, but the transformers themselves did nothing and barely even spoke. They weren't characters.

Bay co-signed on all of this. He was cool with the bleaker tone of the action shots. He wanted the film to feel different from its predecessors. I think the reviews and score also lay this out. I like Rise Of The Beasts but this movie is the definition of a mid movie 🤷
It's also how it's the second movie of the reboot-verse and we're already getting into Thanos-level threats like Unicron and his Heralds.
Like, shit man these studio execs gotta stop shooting their load too early. Where the hell are the regular decepticons? Why are we crossing over with Beast Wars when we've barely established the regular autobots as characters?
I remember the initial rumors around this movie were that Megatron would be the villain of this movie but in rise of the beasts they use the biggest bad guy of G1 and they introduce the maximals without the predecons,
You could separate all three of these ideas into four movies at minimum,
You could have made 2 decepticon focused movies
A unicron movie and
A beast wars movie,
Do the decepticons even get referenced in rise of the beasts?
So, earlier I made a comment that outlined how the franchise could essentially erase this movie from existence and put it in their rear view, but after watch a couple different video essays on the subject and discovering the deleted scenes, I realize I was wrong. I think this movie has good bones, but lackluster execution (kinda like quantumania). That being said, they need to do what they should’ve done with bumblebee. Add the deleted scenes that truly drive the plot and character development, smooth out the G1-esque designs (lookin at you wheeljack) and switch that awful hidden toy commercial plug ending with the original one from the test screening. And for the love of God, leave DiBoneventura out of these films.
Man I’m tired of all the people complaining about the Bay designs. They’re aliens, and there’s sort of an incomprehensible Lovecraftian feel to them with how their designs and proportions are and that’s exactly what I love about them.
I’m a concept artist and illustrator so maybe it’s just me, but I can comprehend the designs just fine and lick out who is who in an action sequence. I feel like all the complaints about the designs are just people parroting each other at this point.
But I agree with the complaints of the actions. Most didn’t feel impactful or interesting to watch. I still like ROTB but it’s got issues like every TF film.
Also Beewun isn’t really that good either. On paper it’s good, but the execution is severely lacking imo. ROTB was still more entertaining for me.
You're kidding right? Rise of the beasts is the only Transformers movie where the Transformers have more screen time than the humans.. and the human characters were actually done well and relatable. The Transformer designs were also retro and accurate. This movie also had proper action where I could actually see what was going on instead of the regular human POV that Bay did. Optimus Prime for once actually felt like a main character rather than an occasional side character. You're really just speaking out of nostalgia.
You do know that transformers is a multiverse and us in no way bound by the 61 designs bays originals and near on any other version look superior to g1
And if your talking about accuracy bay was accurate as for the most part the series is from the perspective of humans and aliens optimus isnt the main character he can be the main focus
I watched movie and i can say what i DIDN'T enjoy it not because of my nostalgia, but because of the plot and scenario.
Movie really did GOOD with characters! People are very likable and autobots IS CHARACTERS with their own personality.
But... WTF is happening here? We are in multiverse or what? How did Primal know about Optimus when they in other galaxies (or verses)? Why did Decepticons do? Why they don't hunt Autobots? Why Optimus is talking about return to Cybetron when Optimus in previous film sayed what they have lost a war. WTF is Unicron? Where the heck are we?! Movie is misses SO MUCH CONTEXT. I literally feel what 1 HOUR OR EVEH A HALF of the movie was just deleted. I have so many questions what movie just doesn't even try to answer. How did Bumblbee and Mirage survived DEATHS? Movie just don't answer to anything, it's really misess a lot of scenes.
And why the hell is movie so fast? Characters are grown and it's a very good thing! Just why it's so fast, what i can't believe it?

Bay's films might have been grand in spectacle, but what they lacked actual focus on the Transformers and their story arcs, which made them feel like background characters more than anything. Aside from the first and fourth movie which did a good job making the Autobots and Decepticons stand out, the rest of the Bay films prioritized the humans and what they were doing instead of giving what the fans want, which is why they feel empty and hollow at the end of the day. I feel like Rise Of The Beasts took these complaints and made an excellent movie that corrects the mistakes Bay made in his movies, while also putting the franchise in a great direction that feels more like the cartoon instead of Bay movies with robots thrown in them. Overall, I'm not in agreement that the franchise needs Bay back at all, and I'm glad we're on the path to moving on to bigger and better things with this franchise moving forward.
Michael bay hasn’t gone anywhere, if anything he still has a large share of power, paramount ceo Brian robbins said Michael bay still has veto power over the transformers and every major decision in regards to the film have to be approved by bay before making the Final Cut, the gi Joe scene was initially not gunna be in because Michael bay said no but robbins had to convince him other and I quote “ I had to ring him 50 times and I did not let up but eventually we managed to get bay to sign” every story decision you see that is huge yeah Michael bay played a part in that happening

Bumblebee was the only movie with the perfect balance.

@@jeff3221that’s what I’m confused about with fans of this movie. This movie still sidelines the robots. I don’t care about the human characters in this one very much. Their stories feel too generic and uninteresting. Everything that people say they hate about Bayformers is also present in this movie. This movie has the same macguffin plot as all the other movies except it’s less interesting than the moon landing conspiracy in DOTM. The robots still don’t get that much screen time to build up their characters. It’s pretty much exclusively Mirage and Optimus that get development. Arcee is just there even though she was a great character in Transformers Prime. They don’t do anything with Wheeljack except make a joke about his accent (again I’m not seeing people complain about him either when people complained about Jazz in TF1). Not to mention, that is definitely not how Wheeljack was portrayed previously. Stratosphere is just a plot device and not an actual character. At least Jetfire was pivotal to the plot in ROTF. The Maximals are just as sidelined as the Wreckers and the Dinobots were. I feel like Optimus’s anger is less justified in ROTB. In Bay’s movies, Cybertron is destroyed and he’s trying to stop the same thing from happening to his new home. The Decepticons kill his friends and millions of people. His mentor betrayed him. The humans he protected eventually turn on him. These are valid reasons to be jaded and to cross the line into pissed off territory. In ROTB, he is feeling the pressures of leadership and returning home, but I don’t think that is a good enough reason for him to be a dick to humans and his friends for that matter. And you don’t even get the practical effects and impressive filmmaking that comes with Michael Bay in ROTB. There’s no standout action moment in ROTB. It doesn’t feel real even in comparison to the all CGI Cybertron scene in Bumblebee.
@jeff3221 Yes and no, human characters in rotb have basic development, and it knows where to end, unlike Bay, who constantly filled his human scenes with awkward joked at times, all over the place acting, and constant wanks of the military to the point of them beinf more powerful than the Autobots
4 was actually good, if you ask me. Even though I dislike Prime's robot and vehicular redesign almost as much as the ROTB version, the knight thing was stupid, and the girl was annoying as hell. It was still enjoyable. Prime's voice was beautiful as usual, and Drift, Crosshairs, and Hound became instant favorites. I'd love to see those three, with their Bayverse voices and designs, in other media. Lockdown was also a good villain. The adventure was surprisingly fun, and the secondary humans were actually somewhat interesting.
Bro, I lost you when you said they should relate it to capitalism. Stop injecting and projecting through film it’s gross and annoying
He's a damn liberal. What did you expect?
Stop? Get a hold of yourself 😂😂😂
You think Movie cant got any Moral Values???
The battle of chicago made me bust.
Bay knows how to make shit go boom
I actually think the designs were a pretty solid design. What I miss the most is the actual transforming of the TRANSFORMERS. Think they only do it 3 ish times
i really loved this movie (i just wished the cgi was better but guess more bots screen time and better cgi was kinda har to do)
Man, the GI Joe twist...was annoying. I really did think it was gonna be Sector 7. Heck, we had Sector 7 and future Agent Simmons both appear in *Bumblebee*. It just made sense for it to be them because we know that they already know about them from meeting Bumblebee and the Decepticons.
This film feels more like a transformers project more than the micheal bay films.
First you people said Michael Bay ruined transformers, now all of a sudden you people want him back? I swear the transformers fandom is becoming the star wars fandom.
@@monstersandmachinesnot me
I actually do miss Michael Bay
Same here. He did great in transformers.
Why did he stop? I bet he made tons of money from it
@@user_28373because the box design enjoyers cried when they didn’t get there ugly designs
This film tried to be Michael Bay without being bay, instead of doing it's own thing like Bumblebee, I'm sorry I usually a person that doesn't judge people but how the hell can you defend this film and call yourself a Transformers fan? Thes comments hurt my eyes. Optimus was a racist that hated humans, the beasts didn't have any personality nor screen time, the final battle was a boring mess, Peter didn't put interest in voicing Scourge. The last Knight was horrible but I will still watch that mess before this because that mess made me feel something, this film just didn't. I don't want to blame the director because he is a good director I'm sure the studio pressured him. But this isn't only a bad Transformer film, it is bad cinema. And after watching the new Godzilla film I realised I didn't stop enjoying films, the simple thing is that i don't like bad movies. So as a Transformers fan, and a theater lover. I want good films so stop giving money to these types of films.
Agreed, it wasn't that great. The people calling it the greatest transformers are watching it with rose tinted glasses and were brainwashed into thinking the Bay films were horrible and that this new (probably) rebooted universe is amazing and saving transformers.
Yeah. I forgot this movie the moment I saw it.
Optimus Prime is the most out of character he was in Rise of the Beasts, and yet people complained about Bayverse yet he's been pretty chill for the movies and all his Decepticon kills were very justified
The movie was decent, i just wish they had more epic fights (like prime vs driller)
