Tethering is a great way to up your photo game. Have you tried it?
So well explained!! Thanks!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much! I was looking for a step-by-step process on how to connect and I got it working! I am sooo excited! Subscribed! THANK YOU!!!
this is great! Good to have you!
Great video! Thanks
Anytime :)
Thank you ! it helped me
Great!
Thank you so much!!!
yep :)
Thanks for the info👌🏾Was there a cover on your water container? I got nervous just seeing your Mac and camera gear next to a possible open water container😁🫣
well kinda, it has an open mouth piece so it would spill if it fell... lol I had a drink one time fall all over my computer. crazy that nothing happened. cleaned it up and computer works perfectly.
Something to note about cables and connectors: There are all kinds of jankety products on the market with varying levels of USB functionality. Be sure to get "full service" devices, USB 3.1 Gen 2 or better (or Thunderbolt) to be certain of fully functional connections. All links in the chain must be at that capability.
ooooh very good point! thank you!
Thank you - simple and to the point. Just hopes it works with the R6
check out the list of cameras that it works with. I linked it in description of video.
Hi there, do you know how to 'save' the presets you use during your tethered shoot so that the effects are on the photo files when you view them after the shoot? I've got excited with the results during the shoot and then the resulting files are just plain... Any advice gratefully received!
the edits you make during the shoot should automatically save, if they dont, you should be able to "save as preset" just like you do to create a preset then reapply the preset if it doesnt save
Got it.. Damn cool thing
nice!
Can you see live mode while tethered, to be able to make adjustments instead of just taking a picture and then seeing if it's right?
I pretty sure you can.
Thank you.
You’re welcome 😄
I use translation because my English is not very good, so I apologize in advance. Thank you very much for explaining it in such detail. I could not see this detail in any CZcams video, and I could never find "Turkish" content in my own language. I found you completely by chance and I can say that you saved my life. I'm very new to photography and they never explained to me how that cable was set up or gave me the details of whether I should use lightroom classic. That's why I always thought I was making a mistake somewhere. Thank you very much for your video.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💯
I love it! Thank you so much for the comment! Glad to be of help!

Hi Will! It seems I bought for me on Amazon the same structure...but please tell me: what kind of photographic backdrop did you buy?!? It seems perfet to use: simple, straight ( I have a cotton one, nice but you need to iron it..), long enough to have full body portrait, easy to attach via the hooks...)
Here's my whole studio set up: czcams.com/video/zIe_4CRmLBI/video.htmlsi=t3nafj4ygM_1fDcj
@@willsimpsonphoto thanks!
Do you ever have any problems with your external hard dives being corrupted? What do you recommend for external hard drives. Thank you
Luckily never had a problem. Here’s what I use: czcams.com/video/6UX1Qb43zt4/video.htmlsi=oQMYS3GID8Odj4Hz
They’re also linked in description in my gear list.
I tethered with LR when I first got my R5 and it worked perfect for like a year and then randomly didn't connect my camera anymore. I called canon and adobe and they're telling me my camera may not be supported anymore but I see you've just posted this video months ago and I still have no luck getting my R5 to tether to LR again. I just started using Cascable though and its a great alternative for tethering just have to use an iPad or mobile device and doesnt save to LR automatically, which was the main reason I tethered.
that's super weird. not sure why that would happen unless there was a firmware update. maybe try a different cable or switching the cable around?
This is excellent. Can one use Canon 6d mark ii with this setting?
as of right now i dont believe so. the link to the link of cameras that work is in description.
Tether Capture is now showing up in my lightroom
That’s good!
Hi! Thanks for the video!
Do you know if currently the tethering works on canon eos r6 mark 2?
i linked the cameras that tethering works with in description, unfortunately I dont believe its updated for the R6m2 yet.
Is there a way to save files on the hard drive AND a memory card in the camera as well at the same time using this method? :) Thanks!
i believe as long as you set it up to write the photos on the hard drive this will occur. the photos will still save to the memory card, at least they do on mine, and they write to my external hard drive as I save the folder to it when I set up the tether.
I got a new Canon R8 together with the MacBook pro M2 and Lightroom classic, but when I start tethering it tells me no camera found. Worked fine with the R5 in the R6 which I don’t have anymore. I have no idea what’s happening do you have a clue? Thanks great video 👌
it looks like the R8 isn't supported for tethering yet. If you look in the description of this video, theres a link that says "List of Cameras". These are the supported cameras
@@willsimpsonphoto seriously … one year on the market and still not supported …? 😵💫 that’s weird but thanks for the very quick answer 👍
How do you get the imported photo ( taken sideways in portrait mode) to rotate or I guess to NOT rotate to landscape? I know I've gotten it to work before but now I can't. Argh.
in Lightroom Classic i just use command/control + [ ] (left or right brackets)
Hey where do you fnd your background? can you share the amazon product please?
Here ya go: amzn.to/3Z9QoG0
hello and hi,
Am using canon 6D for product shoot, i have a doubt. how can we shoot in manual mode with 2 sides flash softbox and also i need to shoot that in remote shoot via PC is that possible?
im not sure I fully understand, but you would need to use a transmitter on camera to fire the flashes, and as long as you're tethered properly you can fire the camera via the computer through Lightroom. Just make sure that the 6D is compatible for tethering
Where it says "live" I have Interactive. The camera takes the picture but does not save to the computer nor it shows in LR. Any advise? Thanks!
when you set it up, are you selecting a folder to save the photos in?
then, is it possible that I automatically apply the preset values and save the photos directly to my C drive immediately after taking a picture?
Pretty sure. Just need to set it to save there and I believe you can auto apply presets. Just gotta adjust the settings you want
Will the photos also save on the SD card in the camera while tethered?
they do for me when i shoot
Hello. I am trying to connect my Canon EOS RP with Lightroom - everything goes well, just one thing doesnt work: images are not saved to computer and I cannot see them in Develop mode or Library mode. What is wrong? The images are saved on a card, but not in computer. The folder T created for tethered photos is still empty... Live view also works but in live view i cannot edit photos instantly. I tried different app - EOS Utility and this app can save images to computer which means something wrong is in Lightroom. Do you guys have any idea please? I would be so thankful if someone can help. Thank you, Pavla
in the description of the video is a link that says "List of cameras" and it doesnt look like the RP is on that list which is why you might be having the problems and only getting some workability.
For camera with USB C connection you dont need tethering cable. Any good USB C cable its work perfect. I work with capture one without special tethering cable
nice! I've heard Capture One Tether is a little ahead of Lightroom in the tether game. Lightroom is a little touchy lol
I tethered my 5D Mark iv to my Mac laptop. Everything worked fine except I could get my strobes to fire??? What didn't I do? Thanks..
tethering shouldnt have anything to do with the strobe. That would be related to the transmitter you're using and making sure camera, transmitter and strobe are properly connected with right channels, groups and IDs.
The reason you have had cable connection issues is that you bought the wrong cable for your basic need. The orange tether tools cable you bought is the extension cable for USB C to USB C cables, and that is why you needed to use the shorter black USB C cable. What you should have gotten was the Tether Tools USB C to USB C cable instead.
Good to know! 😂😂 either way, got it working lol.
I've done all the things...it detects then disconnects. any idea why? (Canon r5, LR classic, orange tether cord)
sounds like the connection isnt solid. the little black cord I use sometimes gets loose it disconnects. check that first
I wonder if the Canon R5C is able to tether, thanks
This video goes over the recent update and has a list of cameras that work with it in description: czcams.com/video/pblX71Gs2iM/video.htmlsi=H16LpVD_a3uwbRoB
So how do you save your photos to your external hard drive and not your computer
I showed in the video. You select that drive to save the photos too.
Came across an HDMI cable, standard to mini HDMI, think it'll work?
i havent tried that, but it might work
@@willsimpsonphoto Tested it, didn't work. 😭😅
@@anthonymichael5846 yeah was pretty sure it needs to be specific cable. But good to know for sure now
The tether works fine with the Canon R6 but if I include my lights and use a remote control via wifi the lights do not flash. Any solution?
im not sure why that would happen. theres no reason if the flashes are connected properly they shouldn't fire. maybe try wiping off the contacts. Making sure the strobes are firing prior to setting up the tether to make sure its all good. If works prior to tethering then stops working after, you know thats where the problem is.
@@willsimpsonphoto I disassembled everything, added each function one by one. It all worked fine until I tried the tether. The strobes work with the trigger but not when I add the tether cord.
@@Jude2408 that’s really weird. I have no idea why that would be. Sounds like it might be an issue with the communication between camera and tether. So maybe it’s not supported but if that’s a problem with canon software or Adobe software is uncertain.
I’m going to dig out some old remote triggers. I’m determined to make it work. I’ll let you know .
can i use 2 sec delay button shutter ?
Oh that’s a good question, I haven’t tried but I don’t see why not. I’ll try next time I tether.
My god you are loaded. You paid 50bucks for a 10-12$ cable. Enjoy the good things in life my friend, happy for you 😊
lol not quite, it’s just the one I found worked.
is there a live view option?
I use an R5 and have live view on my camera screen but not on the computer that I have seen or been able to figure out.
When I tried to tether to LR years ago, it was super glitchy. So, I ended up getting Capture 1 just for tethering. I hope that LR has improved the tethering ability.
So far it’s been pretty decent. But the cameras it allows are limited unfortunately
Hi, what App are you using?
Not an app. I’m using Adobe Lightroom Classic
@@willsimpsonphoto Thank you. I appreciate it, and I will look into it.
can I tather with lightroom classic CC?
I was using Lightroom Classic. You cannot tether with Lightroom CC.
0:36 smh
Mine doesn’t automatically pop up. Nikon Z7
it might not be supported. Lightroom seems to have a very limited amount of supported cameras. did you check the website?
Real video start @2:45
Good to know 😂
you paid 50 bucks for a USB extension cable? That's crazy! :)
lol
Sadly Lightroom support is pretty poort, Canon 90D is not supported and it's from 2019
Yeah it seems a little lacking in that department for sure.
@@willsimpsonphoto yes still I tried with LRC 12.5 and worked fine, thank you for this tutorial it was super useful and I got it working 👌
To date, tethershooting does not work with an R6 Mark II. This is also soon 1 year old. I am really pissed at Adobe because Canon has been sending the information data to Adobe for months. My R6 Mark 1 does work, but again the images are transferred very sporadically via the laptop to my Samsung SSD. Not all images are transferred, it has to be constantly re-paired. The camera settings popup window is constantly in the middle of the screen instead of you placing the window somewhere on the edge. You have to constantly move this window around. I use a high quality orange tether cable like they do that goes directly into the laptop. It's really annoying with this Lightroom software. Adobe really needs to pull their finger out of their butt.
Oh yeah that’s super annoying. I was wondering if it was just me or an issue with the companies. Hopefully they do fix it.
I am a R6 shooter and jumped to Capture One due to tethering issues with LRC.
This I could not get to work reliably. I wasted three days. No go. Sony A7RIV + Macbook Air M1 and M2 -zero result.
I got a Tethering Cable from Tethering Tools. No use.
Is the sony A7Riv supported for tethering? Unfortunately Adobe has a limited amount of cameras that are supported.
You'll need Smart Shooter to tether Sony to Lightroom
Not if you have a newer Canon once again proving Canon is failing.
not sure if its Canon or Adobe because I tether with a Canon R5 and it works fine. but the compatible cameras are for sure limited. I linked the list in the description.
