That top handle looks like it’d be awesome...Need me one of those!!
I do like the addition of the camera in the back too!
Btw...Your mom’s comment cracked me up! 😂
The small details hahaha
Yeah my mom is the biggest troll - she has non stop harassed me about the small rig multi tool 😂
Just what I needed is a good explanation on how to get smooth video with a rig. I bought the cage, top handle and single side grip, plus a 5 inch monitor. (I don't always use the monitor, just on some video). Thanks for your excellent tips!!
Thank you for this! Have to also compliment on the set: the lighting is amazing! Some may say it's just dark, but no, everything is actually neurally warm and it keeps you in the focus without blowing highlights. And surely the background needs less work for item placement etc, which is good, especially at home... with toddlers and all...
I find that just simply using a weighty camcorder gives the best results, due to how it is held. It's quite natural with few contortions required compared to a regular camera body.
Extra steady shots can be done when using the viewfinder,:
- cup both hands around the camcorder body
- pull elbows into torso
- and the viewfinder at the eye adds a third point of contact
But I also use a top handle occasionally, just like in this video.
All good points and tips. Thanks!
Great tips! Thank you. I need to be using this downtime to practice! On to your new video lol!
Honestly this has been my go to this week. Top handle rigged up. Such a solid stable set up.
Love this! My biggest challenge is as smooth as possible hand held footage. I'm the one with a fully rigged up camera, even hand held I'll have it in the cage with 3 handles and the monitor attached to it. Back breaking but the weight certainly helps to keep it slightly steadier. Smooth hand held footage is a skill and it takes long time to master #smoothcriminal
It really is a skill. I even found it extremely difficult to get the examples to not be shaky and it was the most controlled environment. Re filmed them 3 times.
Also i wish i was not afraid of getting sued... i pretty sang the entirely smooth criminal song and had to cut it 😂
Oh hello NC 👋🏾
Thanks for these tips. Now subscribing!
Fellow Carolinian? No problem, thanks for watching!
Love the tips thank you !
Is there a handle you recommend if you were to shoot vertical ? Or is a cage required ?
Cage would probably be required for vertical
Shooting like this. And then mount a screw on top handle to the cage
I just came by to recommend a U-Rig over the top handle, as the hot shoe mount on top of most DSLR’s are prone to breaking.
this was fire.
Thank you kindly!
I love this! Great video man. I enjoyed your subtle humor :)
Some solid tips!
Thanks! Glad they could help!
GREAT VIDEO! Your hat placement was much better. BORROW SOMEONES TODDLER?!? My, Son...(sigh!). I love you, mom
Thank you for your feedback and concern! Love you mom!
Really helpful video brother! Thank you!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching ✌🏻
These are awesome tips! For filmmaking and for toddlers!
Thank you for the tips. Like and Subscribed.
Thanks! I’m glad it helped. And welcome to the channel!
Be POSITIVE start your videos with a positive statement
👍🏻
Really Loved your vídeo!!!
Can we shoot a vídeo with clips with different frame rates? Let's say I want to do some slow-mo but not the entire vídeo, so I shoot 60 or 120fps and slow them in post, but the parts of the vídeo I want in a "normal" speed, I prefer the look of the 24fps instead of the look of the 60or 120fps without slowing it down in post. Can I shoot, let's say one clip at 24, one at 60 and the other at 120fps, and mix it all in Davinci Resolve (the one I'm planning to use bcz it's free)? I ask because I watched a couple of vídeos and I understood that at the beginning of a project, I have to decide what frame rate I want to export... I really don't understand... The reason I ask is bcz I have had a sony a7iii for a year and a half, I do photography, mainly portraits and I just realized I never tried vídeo... what a waste.. so now I'm trying to figure out settings, and how to shoot and the basic editing! Thank you so much in advance!
Well, I'm also wondering the answer of this question.
great video as always!
Why is your handle on backwards?
Preference for comfortability
Amazing video! Would you recommend this curved type of top handle, versus the the not curved “L” shaped top handle? I want to buy a top handle but don’t know which one to buy!
Much Appreciated! 🙏
The looks of your videos are amazing my friend. Minimal distraction, colors always on point, softness, everything. Anyway, for the third point of contact if you need the camera to be at a lower height I think something like a gorilla pod might help, bent to rest on the torso, get those vertical angles, what do you think?
Btw I used to live in RTP, got to love the rain.
I enjoyed this
great video! thanks for all the knowledge!
Absolutely!
@@Ansonandco Also love seeing other NC people doing well on CZcams!
Also, can I just use my stock Sony strap that the camera came with? Or need a specialized one?
I like curved top handles personally. It contours a little better to your hand. And for the strap any strap will work
Anson & Co. thanks! When filming, what is more stable when holding the top handle- do you aim the handle towards you or the subject you’re recording?
@@41vids whatever is more comfortable and balanced
Does the top handle damage the hot shoe of the camera?
Not in my experience of using it
Hey new to your channel! Great info. Subbed
Thanks so much! And welcome
What about electronic stabilization? Is that just utter taboo in video?
Ibis and electronic stabilization are absolutely ok to use
I just made this video with a camera that doesn’t offer any stabilization
Can it be same as gimble? or gimble is just easier?
I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of gimbals, that said it will not be gimbal steady. But it will be steady handheld.
Handheld and gimbal are just two different vibes
Can i use the rig with top or side handle and do the walking shots without jitter or gimbal are still the preferred way for walking video? I want to buy the rig so i dont have to use gimbal on the run and gun shot.
@@TravelingLensMan So I bought the gimble... I personally hate the gimble. I've made several videos with the gimble czcams.com/video/YW0--Jld3nw/video.html my most recent one and you can see the damn shake even if the set up is as much as possible; the gimble is not smooth as butter if you are not that type to make the video look gay and princessy type of shit if you want it edgy well it's going to be a bit of work time effort because the gimble just doesn't not shake it's not steady 100% you gotta set it up hold it move with it bla bla bla i hate itlooking for alternative
@@TravelingLensMan btw the 1st shot of the river is handheld lol it's so much smoother then the gimble ever would be LAMOE
What part of North Carolina you are in?
Raleigh Durham area!
You digitally stabilised your demo shots.
Did I? It’s been forever since I made this video. But in fairness, these are still solid methods to use to get your footage within a steady range to be able to use stabilization in post. I still use these methods today and still use stabilization in post 🤷🏼♀️
@@Ansonandco I just thought it kind of defeats the point of a demo if you digitally stabilise after, that's all.
Hey man it’s been a while I’m getting one of these handles I will use ur link
What’s up man! It has definitely been a while! Dope dude I’m still rocking this top handle definitely a good one.
Toddlers run the house. brb gonna clean a spill.
As a North Carolinian... every day is nasty until the fall or winter
Why would you want smooth handheld footage?
Maybe a better wording would be “how to not have shaky ass footage”😂
"if you don't have a toddler, just go to the park and chase any kids you see with your camera."
Lol not my words… please no one be a creeper 😂
@@Ansonandco Lolol. But it has quotes around it. If the internet says it, it's true. Hahaha
@@XtianApi 😂😂
Try a dog with manual focus... And wide open aperture.
Stop saying it’s a nasty day because is raining. Rain is blessings from God to refresh Earth and grow plants, fruits. Without rain it would be nasty.
Sorry?
I am so happy that G*D has blessed this comment section with your input, BRILHO. Rain is nothing in comparison to your immense wisdom.
I feel like originality is lost on youtube nowadays. Every youtuber has the same exact dark background and soft box lighting setup. To me it's starting to look like a clichè. There's gotta be other ways to record your youtube videos without making them all look the same. There are so many ways to light a scene and everyone is doing the same lighting.
I know I’m not the first but damn people have been using this lighting more lately. When I started doing it bright backgrounds was the trend. But it is what it is
Hey man I get it, it's the trend and people still like it. Keep doing your thing, I just see things a little differently and like to think ahead and usually don't like following trends but unfortunately most people do like trends and right now, this is it. So you do you man, and keep it up, great video.
You lost me at the negative intro.
