- In this video I show you how to grill with Charcoal for beginners so you can start your backyard BBQ career today! Grill with charcoal is very simple and if you do it the same way you can get started faster and enjoy real BBQ favor instead of just a gas flame heating up your meat. In my neighborhood a gas flame has one purpose to light your charcoal chimney a little faster.
So if you enjoy our content subscribe to the channel and I promise you I am here to help teach you a few things about backyard BBQ and add a little of my humor to keep you entertained.. Thanks for watching and enjoy the video!

Great video Rice! Learned a lot and I’m going to try to apply that advice this weekend when I make my steaks! Looking forward to the next video you make!
Awesome Jake and I am glad to have helped you out! Next video I am cooking Ribeye Steaks on the Weber Kettle. This one should be a fun cook---cooking Ponderosa style! Again thanks for watching!
*Bought for my son. We have had one for years, works great. Can cook indirect and smoke meat. Done chicken, ribs, turkey, and the regular **MyBest.Kitchen** hot dogs and sausages. Excellent grill*
Lol funny guy thanks for your help
This is my first charcoal grill after a lifetime of gas. czcams.com/users/postUgkxBPjh-m7-eaAjTEt8BOZRSRRxXqxiI90W The food in it turns out great. Also, the ash remover makes it easy to clean. The base is sturdy and it has ample space inside.I use a chimney to get it started, and it seems pretty efficient. One chimney is enough to cook a whole lot of meat and still keeps burning. If you close the vents it cools down well making it so the coals remaining are still usable as supporting cast members (you still need fresh coals to get them going.I was going to get something bigger, but realized with coal, bigger is just more wasteful and harder to cook with.
Ricer, I'm subbed to roughly 160 channels and I do my very best to watch a video from each one and comment. I do have a top 10 list that I absolutely get to first. You sir just hit the top 5 ! Great video sir, thanks for sharing.
Dang bro I am very honored to be even considered in the top 100!!! Thanks for watching Mr Noob!
Thank you so much for this, this was the most useful starter guide for charcoal grilling I’ve seen on CZcams.
Awesome! Glad I could help you out bro! Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for this video, it was super informative and helpful! Just ordered my first Weber Performer Deluxe yesterday. Will be my first time cooking on a grill and I couldn’t be more excited. Liked and subscribed!
Awesome and have fun with that Performer!! Very nice grill for sure! Thanks for leaving a comment and subscribing to the channel!! Have a great weekend!
This is outstanding. Only "dabbled" my way through grilling, and to be honest, I have always been shooting in the dark. This is superb. Thanks for taking the time to explain!
You bet and I am glad that I could help Kirky! With a little practice you will easily get this down pat!! Thanks for watching and have a great week!
This was so much fun seeing one of your old videos. And i believe anyone who does a bbq channel needs to have a beginners video of how to grill using a Webber kettle. And Ricer this was the best and most informative video i have seen. And boy howdy I've watched a great many. The fact it included you reading one of Dash's comments was priceless. Hope you had a great Memorial day, the meat was hot and the beverages were cold. Take care.😊
Great, video man! Really straight ahead and informative. I like how you present options and don’t push products. Keep up the great content!
Thanks you Michael!! I always try to show something I use to help people to see things that might make their bbq adventures more fun or easier! I appreciate you watching bro!!
Keep killing it man, this video was the best out of all the ones I looked up 🙌 Subscrubed 👌
Thanks Alan!! Glad it helped you out!! Thanks for watching and hope you are having a great weekend!
Liked and subscribed. Best video I’ve seen for starting out on a charcoal grill and I’ve watched a few this weekend. This is the last one I’ll need though. I’ve got it now. Ready to start looking like I know what I’m doing.:)
Thanks.
Awesome and welcome to the Dead Broke Family!! I appreciate the feedback and glad you are ready to burn some coal!! Good luck and have fun!! Thanks for watching!!
My dad always used gas grills growing up, but there's something about the flavor when using charcoal. Thanks for the vid. Learned a lot!
I agree completely Chris! Glad I could help and have a great week!!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Is it the delicious carbon monoxide from the low-oxygen burn?
@@Thalanox yep hahaha
Taste the meat not the heat
@@adams2771 oh but that little extra smidge that charcoal leaves is a bonus flavor burst!! Thanks for watching!
Thanks, I've only cooked on gas and now i want to get a charcoal grill. This video showed me how to start, and it sold me on the Weber grill.
Thanks for watching Jared! Yep once you get the taste of charcoal grilled food you might never use that gas burner again?!?! I have owned a gas charcoal combo for 2 years now and I still haven’t hung a tank on it!! Ha ha glad this video helped you out!! Thanks for watching and you won’t be disappointed in a Weber kettle!
Thank you so much!!
This really helped me out, I was gifted a grill and now feel confident enough to host a cookout!!😁😁
Awesome Alesha!! Start out with some simple things like hamburgers and chicken wings! Next thing you know you will be doing some 2 inch ribeyes and lobster tails!! Good luck and I am glad I was able to help!! Have a great weekend and I appreciate you watching!!
Thank you, just bought my first charcoal grill and your video really helped me.
Awesome!! Have fun and glad I was able to help you out! Nothing better than some good grilled BBQ over a bed of coals! Thanks for watching and be safe!
So helpful and thorough, but quick and to the point. Awesome!
Thank you and I appreciate you watching!
Awesome video! Very helpful. I want to start grilling for my family and this video makes it seem WAY less intimidating. Thank you!!
Only way we get better at something is by practicing! I always say start with chicken, it is cheaper and honestly it can still taste good even if it is slightly over cooked! Just google the cooking temperature of what you are grilling and give it a try! Nothing better than some good charcoal flavored grilling!! Let me know how it goes and soon I am doing steaks for beginners and that is always a hit for the family!! Thanks for watching!!
I really needed to know about the vents..thanks.this is the best so far
Glad I could help and thanks for stopping in, I really appreciate it! Happy grilling!
Love the video Ricer! This was the one for me. I am a “nube” and always either burn the food or give my family salmonella. I am definitely buying a meat thermometer! Can’t wait for the next video.
I am so glad to help William! Yes the meat thermometer is a priority for anyone that cooks food! Thanks for watching!!
Hey man i absolutely love your channel brother. You inspire me to do my own videos. Get ready cuz your channel is going to blow up
First off, thank you so much for the awesome confidence builder and kind words!! Second-all I can say is keep do it!! I procrastinated for over a year before I even did a video! I was told by SDSBBQ it isn’t rocket science and then I said get going Ricer! I see you stated and good job!! You have 78 subs plus 1 now!! Keep grinding them videos out bro and have fun!! Thanks for watching!!!
Dude this was a great video. Thanks. Always like to double check my process thanks for being cool enough to take the time to share it.
Glad you enjoyed it Adam!! I am not cool but very nice of you to say that!!! hahaha Thanks for watching bro and tomorrow afternoon the weekend starts!!!! Have a great weekend brother!
Just started charcoal grilling/smoking and needed some hints on how to get my charcoal going.
Absolutely gonna need to get one of those charcoal chimneys.
Thanks for the tips.
Awesome, charcoal grilling gives so much more flavor! Yes a chimney is the number 1 accessory needed for a charcoal grill. I own 3 of them??!!?? Hahahaha good luck and have fun!!
I enjoyed your video. This will be my first time grilling on my own and I look forward to using your techniques. I thank you in advance.
Awesome and just have fun Linda!! Few times around some live fire and you will be a pro!! Just remember practice makes perfect!! Thanks for leaving a comment and have a great weekend!!
never cross-contaminate, im glad you mentioned the tongs part

That's why I put the food on with my hands

Thank you AJ! I hope you are having a wonderful summer of bbq!!
I have a portable weber grill. It's 14". I'm a little nervous to use a chimney but you made it look so easy with the newspaper. I feel like I won't see as much fire. I'm new to grilling on my own. I pray I don't start a fire! Thanks for this video!
You got this! The chimney is a great tool and I don’t t lite charcoal when I am grilling without it. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!!
Cheers for the advice John
This video was so very helpful for me. Thank you very much!
Glad I could help!! Have fun and as you grill you just want to do it more! Thanks for watching and bbq season is here!

Awesome Dan and glad I could help!! Thanks for watching!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial for us "beginner grillers". I'm getting my food ready right now to put on my brand new grill and needed these tips to help me out.
Awesome Tray! Hope everything went good and remember grilling is like everything the more you do it the better you get!! Glad I could help and main things is that you are cooking for yourself and that always tastes better!! Thanks for leaving a comment, I really appreciate it!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ all went well, your tips helped out a lot. Thank you.
This was amazing, thank you for the tips!
Thanks and glad I was able to help!! Good luck grilling and stay safe!!
Thanks for the news on trying to clean with the wire brush. Never thought about it getting in the food
You’re welcome. It is rare but if you search it up you will be amazed at how horrible it can be if it happens to you. Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it bro!
Your charisma is contagious, you earn a new subscriber :D
I really enjoyed your tips as I'm trying to learn how to use a charcoal grill more efficiently.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the video!!!
That was a very helpful video and keep making videos they are great
You bet Kirill and thanks for watching!
i'm a newbie. Bought my first Weber kettle grill today and chimney starter today...looking forward to learning The Right Way to BBQ.
Awesome brother! You got this man!! Like I tell everyone start with chicken because usually it is cheap but right now Clucker is out of control! So just grill some brats and hamburgers. Learn how the temp runs and learn your temp windows and how long you should cook direct or indirect. Congratulations and have fun!! Things only get better with practice!!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ thanks for your time and tips. Very much appreciated.
You bet dude! More charcoal cooks coming soon but I am going to be cheating in them. I got a new BBQ Guru UltraQ coming next week so no temp control needed!! I can mow the lawn while I am smoking something on the Weber now!! ha ha
Great video some good helpful hints. I do like the 2 zones of heat. Where putting all your charcoal one one side and keeping the other side as safe place for your meat if u get a flare up! It’s genius in its simplicity. Should of thought of it but never did. Keep up the good work Ricer! I’d like to see u do like salmon sometime
Great idea Heath! I can most certainly do a salmon video someday for you! It is on the list but maybe I can push it up a few rows?!?! Thanks for watching!
I took a couple thing from your video wis on point i love it!!
Awesome Brian!! I am so glad I could help brother and thanks for watching!!
Great video!! I'll be using these tips in Liverpool (UK) tomorrow!!
Awesome and I hope everything goes smooth for you brother! Let me know how it goes tomorrow and thanks for jumping across the pond and checking out my video!!
Thanks for the video! I'm trying to learn how to be a better charcoal griller and this helps a great deal. I'm a new subscriber for more tips!
Glad I could help out!!! Have fun and the more you do it the easier it gets! Thanks for watching!
I am new to this game, thanks for the awesome video ! I don’t know where I would be with you and this video ! You do need a Bro n Sear for your kettle! Your killing it Ricer !
I am sure glad to have helped!! Ha ha ya one of these days I am going to make a bro n sear!! Classic dude!! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment Kent!!
Thank you! Your video was great for a 'newbie' like me!
Awesome and I am glad I could help! Just have fun and the more you do it the easier it gets!
Great tips Ricer! Weather is the same here give it five minutes the weather will change!
Ha ha ya we always say if you don't like the weather just wait a day!!! hahah Thanks Mags for watching and leaving a comment brother!!! Have a great week dude!!
I learned quite a bit from this video! Nice cameo from Jake!
Thanks for watching Amber! Now you can sit and hit the pause button so Jake can keep up with the tutorial! I talk a little fast! haha
Hey Ricer. Good video...I found your channel thru Dash at SDSBBQ. Keep up the great work
Hi Steve! I will send a message to Dash thanking him!! Thanks for watching! I appreciate you stopping in and saying hello!
Thank you, my father in law just gifted us a gas grill for our new home. We just bought our first bag of charcoal 🙌 and my husband's building the grill rn. So excited to use what you taught us this weekend!!
Well I am glad I could help and have fun!!! Charcoal just tastes better!! Stick around I try to post every week!! Thanks for watching!!
Um....gas grill? Gas grills don't use charcoal.
Is there a guide to tell how to change the briquettes or know when to change them during cooking
Great video, just what I was looking for thanks!
Awesome and glad I could help you out! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment bro!!
I've watched loads of BBQ videos on youtube, BUT you sir give so much info in a 10-minute clip that's unbelievable, no messing about you get right to the point, love your videos, sir, I salute you. 👍

i'm about to light up my charcoal grill tomorrow! Got a bench top grill 2 years ago for my birthday. Been hiding in the garage ever since, but she's coming out tomorrow!!
Now that is awesome Atkins!!!! Good luck and with a little practice you will be crushing protein and that grill will never be put away!! Hope you are having a great week!
Great video been a long time since I used charcoal very helpful thanks
Glad I was able to help! Thanks for subscribing and leaving a comment!! Have a great week and keep on grilling!!
Watched your video last week and last night successfully grilled chicken cordon bleu foil packets all on my own. Thanks so much! Next on the agenda steaks!!
Fantastic!!! Very proud of you Laurel!!! Can't wait to hear how the steaks go!! Good luck but you got this!!! Have a great weekend!!
I like your tips on the gadgets, especially the coal rake. But come on, we all know that grilling in the winter is fun too!
Oh ya I grill year around but it was funny I filmed that video and the next day we got 12 inches of snow and in March it is always fun to see the snow go away for a while!! Ha ha thanks for watching!!
One word... Lifesaver. Thank you 💯
Glad I could help!!!!
New subscriber, you’re fun to watch and going back to charcoal from many years of gas. Bought a Weber 22” Master Touch, can hardly wait to get at it. Would love a video of beer can chicken. Thank you.
Welcome back Peter!! Ya one of these days I will do a drunk chicken!! Thanks for watching!
Thanks man. First time watcher, new subscriber. Today will be my first time using charcoal.
Awesome KJ!!! Welcome to the world of FLAVOR brother!! Let me know how it goes today!! Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ well today was a successful. We only did hotdogs and hamburgers. However, the charcoal chimney worked great and the food was delicious. Thanks again for the video and tips.
Awesome KJ! Glad I could help! Just keep grilling brother and next thing you will be smoking a brisket! Glad your first cook was a success, congrats!
Just finished The 4th of July cookout and since it's a cool 100degrees I get a little kanky, especially when someone tells me that IAM doing it all wrong, I just show him your channel and forget about it. Thanks dude😜
Ha ha awesome Jeff! Glad I was able to help and thanks for sharing the channel!! Hope you had a successful cook!!
Just stumbled across your video and I’ve gotta say your video is so helpful!!! I was using lighter fluid and my food tasted of lighter fluid😭 but thank you for the heads up!
Great vid
Awesome Leon! I did the math buying 1 charcoal chimney or or many bottle of lighter fluid for years----The chimney won hands down!! If you let the lighter fluid burn off for a long time that taste will go away but it is always a pain to wait for that! Thanks for watching!!
Loved the vid! I am now a subscriber!
Awesome and thank you for joining the Dead Broke BBQ family!! Have a great week!!
Thank you i am a rookie to charcoal grilling. Your video has inspired me. I hit the subscribe button to🤝
Awesome and welcome to the Dead Broke BBQ Family!! Take it slow and have fun!! I hope you enjoy the 4th of July!!
I Love your barbecue tips.Thank you...
Glad I can help!! Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Thanks.😉
Great video and super tips! Something I wanted to mention, recently I couldn't get my grill to sustain a hot temp very long. It was from 2 things, I used lump charcoal and an off brand chimney starter. While the chimney starter did the job, it was quite a bit smaller then the Weber one. This combined with irregular chunks of lump charcoal, I just didn't get enough fuel in the kettle. It's all a learning experience but I know what to correct next time. Thanks again for the video!
Never hurts to put some unlit in the grill and pour the chimney on top. The more fire management you do, the easier it gets. Thanks for watching!!
Best video on this topic
Thank you very much Khalid!! Glad I was able to help! ! Thanks for watching and I hope you have a wonderful Sunday!!
Hey awesome me and my grandson will head to Walmart and start our summer. Thanks Tarra from va beach

Thank you Bruce! I really appreciate you stopping in and watching bro!!
Very good video, better than a lot of others . Explained it very well but I already have a bbq grill and its a small rectangular one. I don't have the weber one.
Square, round, and oval doesn't matter as long as you have a 2 zone cooking area and you pay attention you can cook anything!! With practice it gets easier every time!! Thanks for watching!!
Excellent video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it and you are very welcome! Have fun grilling!!
I’ve never used a BBQ before...I’m a 75 year old woman, found a cast iron hibachi and want to know how to grill on it. I know you may have never grilled on a hibachi, but I’ll bet you could help me. Thanks so much, Ricer, loved your BBQ for beginners.
Thank you very much!! Is it a Lodge? You just use less charcoal and they are fun little grills. Like every grill the airflow controls the heat temperature. Start with easy things like chicken and work to steak. Have fun and it is awesome that you are starting to BBQ!! Have a great weekend and I appreciate you leaving a comment!!
Dude, I ALWAYS get shit wrong at the BBQ and when I do it's more luck... but I followed your steps and BOOM BBQ legend txs great vid, liked and subbed
