I've wanted to make this video for a while... vegan chicken is finally there.. 100% mimicked in my opinion.. but any test I did would be looked at as my opinion and I didn't want that, so I invited some friends and neighbors, some you might know to get their opinion.. BUT anytime you tell someone they are eating "vegan food" there is a stigma, So I wanted to remove that by telling them we were doing a test between real chicken and fake chicken. I wanted to see which vegan chicken tastes more like regular chicken... and it worked.

Legend has it, JP has never washed his hands
This is very true... I don't recall his hands being washed before this video
LOL!!
i love you both, great channels combine, creates great content, please keep it up like this! low profile
@@SauceStache That explains the "something off with the taste" part
@@SauceStache real chicken would have traces of fecal matter also, so it adds to the flavor if he didn't wash his hands first 😂
LOVE THIS VIDEO for so many reasons! JP's enthusiasm is unmatched! I can't believe you took all the breading off hahah! I do the spoon pour like that so people can see the ingredient a bit more lol
hahahaha oh no I hope I didnt call you out with the spoon flip hahaha everyone does it! I mean I do it too hahah
Both of you guys are awesome and I've made amazing meals because of you two!
Is just egg vegan tho
@@milkonpizza1229 Yes it is
I really love the fact you didn't just make a taste test but also showed us an amazing way to pimp up ANY store-bought chicken with some homemade sauces! Plus, you made this experiment very fair for each brand even though you had to spend nearly 3 years in the kitchen to do so :D But at the end of the day, I am just glad you had such a great time at that party!
.
Anyways, sending you lots and lots of love!
Have a great weekend!
Margaret!! Thank you so much! This was fun... and yeah a TON OF WORK hahah but Im hoping its a cool way to show that people can enjoy these vegan chicken nuggets without sacrificing taste and texture!
Have a great weekend! Lots of love back as always! You're the best
Honestly know which brand I’m going to buy thanks to this taste test
Thank you!!! And thanks for all the help with this video!! Super awesome!!
Love watching both of u guys!
Which brand ?
Impossible?
@@SauceStache Wow , thanks for all the work on this vid .
I don't normally eat meat but did start eating a little bit of chicken very rarely in the past few months .
I'd love to know what in the world it is my neighbor gave me before she moved that I put in my freezer and thawed out .
She said it was chicken and it's these long skinny rectangular pieces that felt spongy after they thaw out and they tasted so -so , nothing great after I cooked them .
Clue , it reminded me of the same crappy chicken they used about 11 years ago at Subway when I used to eat there and that felt spongy also .
Any ideas what that was ?
Just want those that have been asking how I'm doing to know that my cancer has NOT spread!!!! Thank you for all of you prayers and helpful ideas. Thank you so much!!! So chemo is next week!!!! Thank you Mark and monica for some great recipes that I truly believe have helped me!!! Thank you!
Sending all the prayers and good vibes your way and sending all the vibes for a quick recovery!! Thank you for the kind comments!
Best wishes to you Lisa ❤️

@One Thank you
Great way of seeing what people actually think of these vegan products. Such a sense of fun and togetherness too, nice to see supportive friends helping you two out. This really suits your channel.
Ahh thank you!! Thank you so much! IT was really a good time and Ive wanted to do this for a while!
Placebo gets us every time
interestingly, Quorn have been making meat analogues from fungal protein since the 80s, and has been pretty popular in the UK for decades. I'm not sure why it never took off in the US, but it's funny to hear it being talked about as the "future"
I love quorn
I love it too although the taste IS very unique. They've stopped selling it in Germany though, unfortunately
Quorn isn't in the US?
Yes. I like quorn.
That's my favorite nugget here in the US
This was a lot of fun to watch. I do personally feel that a lot of companies put the flavors into the breading so even though I was initially surprised that all breading was removed for the experiment, it makes complete sense. I’m glad it was really fun for everyone
I don't mind red meat and chicken in their vegan versions, but the one thing I just can't stop having is fish and anything from the sea. I'd love you to keep trying to make the perfect salmon!
fish was the last thing I gave up before truly going vegan, although it was totally worth boycotting, fish and crab is definitely the only animal products I'd say I prob miss the most and would love to see replicated better
@@garden.of.thistles yeah definitely!
@@garden.of.thistles I went backwards as fish was the first meat I gave up after watching a doco say tuna will be extinct by 2040
Some 15? years ago, Morningstar has a veggie salmon. The taste was so authentic that I had a difficult time eating it for probably the first 6-8 times I tried it (I used to love salmon). Sadly it's been discontinued. One thing they did which probably gave it both that fishy ocean flavor and look, was to put seaweed/nori on the bottom, giving it that crisp fish skin look when cooked. Maybe give that a try?
@@DarkandStormyNight01 Here in Argentina there is nothing close to that. We pretty much don't have any fish replacements
The 'Honey' mustard recipe I use is 2tbsp vegan mayo, 1tbsp Dijon mustard, 2tsp molasses (or brown sugar, 1tsp soy sauce.
Ohhhh thats interesting!!! I need to try that!!
This is just one of those things that shows you that when you tell people it’s vegan or if they go in knowing it’s vegan they already made up their mind that it’s nothing like it. But when they don’t know they don’t really know (most times).
That said, it’s probably good you all know if anyone has a specific food allergy before tricking people into eating something lol
It’s like the episode of the Simpsons when Lisa is pressured to eat meat and she runs into the Kwik-E-Mart, chomps down on a hotdog and then Apu tells her he switched them to tofu dogs and no one knew the difference.
I think when it comes to processed meat foods like burgers, hotdogs, chicken tenders, faux meat does a good job. It’s the whole cuts that companies like Meati are working on getting good enough that people will choose without feeling like they have to “sacrifice” flavor, etc.
So the food allergies reason is the reason why I didnt trick people into eating fake meat. They new going into the test that they would be trying fake meats and knew what was in everything before had. The only trick was that I told them one of them was real, which none of them were
You said that KFC uses buttermilk and egg for breading the chicken. I worked for KFC for two years as a chef and we never did that... just chicken and secret recipe flour.
Or is this all dehydrated into the flour itself?
Btw, props on the amazing audio on this video. Too many channels focus on the video and forget completely about the audio aspect.
Thank you for not tricking people into eating something. As someone with food allergies, it really bothers me when people do that. ❤️
Been waiting for this for days! So excited to see how you came up with this. I feel like chicken is the funkiest faux meat. Always smells weird, looks weird, or has a funky texture. This look amazing!
Thank you!!! So stoked!
this is one of your best videos!! really enjoyed the concept, format, and execution
Love this format! Please do more videos like this if possible.
You are so underrated. I'm vegan 6 years now and I just love how you prove how awesome and innovative it is and can be. Thank you! I can't wait til you reach a million, you deserve it.
I loved the guy that said he had a zero chance of knowing. 🤣
Loved this type of content. So much fun to watch! You did so much work taking off all the breading, smh, I could never. Great job!
I really enjoyed the concept of this video! ❤ GOOD JOB ❤
I really like when you and Monica taste test. I feel like you two give good insights even when you don't agree, which is so true with all food and drink. I was hoping you two had a separate review of the offerings. 🙏
What you've done here is absolutely amazing!
So much work and effort to get this done with scientific precision.
This is priceless!
I don’t think I could tire of your videos! You are always so creative!
Wow!! So much effort for the great video! Appreciate it! ❤
Very cool style of social video :) I bet that took a lot of film and editing work! Amazing!
Great video and title choice! :) very thoughtful and well done :)
Thank you very much!
Its so satisfying and relaxing watching sauce stache sit on a couch looking comfy and relaxing. Makes me happy ❤
I adore this channel! Mark and Monica are so much fun. Gorgeous backyard.
Thank you so very much!!!
This was a really fun video and you put alot of work into it.
Amazing video! I appreciate all the effort you put into this! Not surprised by the impossible win that stuff is dank. Love the sponsor too that furniture is pretty. Wanted to know where you got the kind of bamboo privacy stuff we need something like that. Love u guys!!
I love how much effort you put into this video. Definitely deserves a like and comment for the algorithm
yeah. perfecting the new presentation style. great recipe of course as well. your radio voice is really shining! such a superior fluidity.
Thank you so much!
What a fun video! I was smiling the whole time. I needed that during finals. Thanks 😊 I will forever love the gardein chickn strips
ahhhh thank you!!! Thank you
This was a super fun video! Thank you so much for your incredible work and including your friends!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!!!
So glad you shouted out Meati! I got some of those too and they were awesome!!! Vegan Reddit was amazed. Lol
So let's just say that this was an epic endeavor that is better than anything any test kitchen ever did. The idea of throwing a party to do it made it really authentic and the trouble you went through to pull it off was outstanding. Your backyard is beautiful. You and Monica are adorable and she was really dressed cute for the party. It's crazy that you don't have over a million subs yet. I'm sure it's bound to come soon since your channel is so professional yet not pretentious in the least. ☮️❤️
What an awesome experiment! I love this! And what awesome friends you have! Xx
What a cool video idea!! I really enjoyed watching this!
I love how you narrate your own videos. Like watching movies with their intros. Cracks me up - in a good way.
Wow! You always amaze me with your cooking experiments!
Now I’m craving some impossible chick’n. That looked like a lot of work!
Ton of work hahah but worth it! This was fun
I'm also very interested about the mycelium one : I hope it's the best one 👌
It's good that you tell people there's vegan chicken on the table (I assume your friends would know nonetheless) as, some people can have strange and unique allergies...
I've read some threads on reddit about things going sour because people were *literally* tricked into eating a vegan meat and they couldn't handle one of the ingredients (I think it was the seitan) which ended up for them at the hospital.
Yes, almost no chance or slim to none it happens but, it's always better to know it's a thing
oh gosh - what if the person was celiac and had seitan, which is basically just gluten? I'm all for introducing vegan options to people but just not down with tricking people.
Yah exactly and yet its extremely rare to be allergic to chicken because its literally an unprocessed natural food. Seitan which is gluten is extremely allergenic to most people regardless if you have celiac or not. These processed vegan foods are extremely toxic and the fact there is such enthusiasm to eating such trash is just insane. If you crave chicken EAT CHICKEN. If it's for moral reasons more animals die from plant harvesters look it up.
@@electron-Volt I had a friend who got horribly sick from impossible burgers because he was tricked into it. He literally has multiple autoimmune issues and only eats beef without seasoning because it's so bad for him. Vegans need to stop tricking people because you dont know who you are hurting.
@@electron-Volt, nobody with celiac disease should participate in a test like this, especially because the breading was wheat flour based.
Absolutely realistic! Really looks like a real chicken breast
It really does!! Its so wild to me
I'm a bit curious about Meati, but slightly wary as I'm wondering how close it is to Quorn (which is the only product, veggie or not, that has ever given me a splitting migraine I think because it's somehow distantly related to amoxacillin). I adore the Gardein products though. Whenever I'm getting those fast food type cravings, I'll go and grab a bag of that from the store, and it knocks them right out.
Update: I emailed Meati and they confirmed that the ingredients for their products and the strain of mycelium they use is different from Quorn
Quorn is fungus related, so if you have a mold allergy I would highly recommend you stay away from Quorn.
Which is sad....because I've had the Quorn Meatless Patties and Meatless cutlets and I'll be damned if they weren't the closest I've ever gotten to real chicken. Slap them on a bun with some mayo and pickle slices and I could NOT tell the difference.
Good to know since I'm allergic to amoxacillin. :(
hm im horribly allergic to amoxicillin and i had no idea! i love quorn, their vegan turkey is probably the best vegan product ive ever had.
@@barphh I could very well be wrong! I just know I got the same horrible splitting migraine after eating Quorn that I did with amoxicillin, and one site on the interwebz mentioned something related. Either way, no Quorn for me 😅
@@barphh Didn't know there was a meatless turkey product, it's not on our stores over here. Just meatless chicken and Beef.
The beef is not so great, but the chicken products are hands down the closest thing to chicken that I've had.
When I used to live in Taiwan, I used to buy fresh made vegan meat products at fresh market every morning or afternoon with a very reasonable price, now I move to Malaysia, vegan products, including tempeh and tofu is not that cheap and mostly are not real ingredients, and to buy many of those vegan ready meat is ridiculously expensive and none actually taste that good, always too dry.
What you did with the new breading really help to make it better, it is a hard work but it's worth it.
I'm now making my own vegan meat too, thanks to many of your video, I learned so much how to make it tasty.
Apple jelly (I've only had homemade, might be different bought) makes a great honey substitute for those who can't/don't want to eat honey.
that sounds like a great idea, the fruitiness would be really nice.
@@lilly_koii when used with fries or some other savory thing you typically eat honey with, it has more of a nutty taste to me but still has the sweetness of being a fruit jelly.
Great project! An impressive amount of work went into this thing and the results speak for themselves. I’ve never bought vegan chickun nuggets but I know what brands to look for now! Thanks!
cool video idea, and also video production is over the top! 👌

For my own entertainment at my being weird, I decided to wave. And it was exactly at the same time. LMSBO! 🤣
Your videos are a great anti-depressant! :) you make my brain and my week so much happier! :)
Wow thank you so much!!! Thank you
Its So cool that you did this fun experiment !!
What a fun video! I would love to see a review on the mushroom mycelium one - sounds very interesting!
My favourite of your videos so far!
Love this video. Great job!
You such a good 👍 guy coz you made earlier all the recipe...I love it.
Wow this was a really well done video, good job Mark. Hope you guys had a great time
Thanks so much!
Wow!
You did an amazing job. Love your channel.
Thank you!!( and your lovely wife). And your friends too!!
Thank you so much!
Holy crap -- you took the breading off?!?!? I've always been impressed by your dedication and thoroughness, but I think you've bested yourself here (along with your fantastic helping hands). I was tired after watching all this. You and your crew did so much work! Really enjoyed the results -- and I'd love it if you could post the final results (please).
I think this would also be fun with something else, like cheese.
Side note -- how are you not at 1M yet?! You deserve so much more love. You're seriously so talented, real & fun. And I love how Monica's in every vid. She's the Stan Lee of your videos :P
Interesting experiment and good video. I’ll subscribe!
Old school gardein is still my favorite 🙌🏻 especially with waffles 🤤
Parece que se divirtieron mucho haciendo esa comparación, felicidades!!!
Si gracias!!!
I really thought Annie's jackfruit would win. My wife and I absolutely love their brand. I was also wondering how Meati would be as well. Mark what did you personally think of Meati?
So personally I thought Meati was incredible... just incredible! Its taste and texture were so spot on to me that I was shocked it didnt win. The big comparison here is that it was a whole cut vs the nugget which is what I think gave it away along with some of the taste. BUT I've cooked it a few times since then, just simply pan seared and its amazing!
@@SauceStache that's awesome. I want to try some now. Thanks Mark.
I never heard of Annie's jackfruit .... is that the actual name of it ?
I'm going to have to check that out
Looks like fun and yum were had by all! I personally love the Beyond Chicken!!
Nice looking garden mate!
Ahh!!! You and JP!!! Amazing!!
That was an amazing experience and test result. I usually stick with impossible chicken. Very genius chef Mark.
That was funny and fun to watch, thanks! I’ll have to try the Impossible chikun 😋
Fun video! Great camera work!
I hate to say the Raised and Rooted was amazing, like mcd, when they added egg whites. I didn't realize it had eggs until mid bag. After buying the actual vegan ones they just weren't as good. The breading is off. Surely there's a sub for egg whites for that 🤔 I'm glad they took the eggs out but it needed a replacement!
Anyhow, I haven't bought them since.
For the honey mustard I use brown rice syrup. It’s thick like honey, sweet and the malted flavor mimics honey well in sauces.
really enjoyed this video
This was SO fun! Loved it.
Fun video! I have to admit I was rooting for the mycelium chickun the whole time and disappointed when it didn’t win this one. I’m definitely hopeful you’ll use it again for a future video
Me tooo!!! I thought for sure that was going to be the winner
I’m going to use it again! For sure
Just started using agave sweetener. It's really good. Light Life chkn tenders were excellent. Best texture I've found.
the ultimate gardein is my personal favorite mostly because of the breading, those nuggies airfried and tossed in buffalo sauce is my go-to lazy meal
This is one of my favorite videos!
Loved this! I love seeing if people who eat meat can tell the difference! 😊 Btw, I have question.. What is the mushroom seasoning that you use again? I've been looking back through your videos trying to find a link or the actual name of it, but am having a hard time finding it.... Also, which black vinegar is the one you like or use? Thank you! 😊
Haven't tried the Jack and Annie's nuggets, but their hot dogs are pretty good! Of all the rest, I like the incogmeato and the gardein ultimate best
I am literally dying at watching you run :D
That's just absolutely unreal. I love what Meati is doing these days. Their steak looks awesome too! Vegan food science is pure magic these days!
Its so so wild
You're not a chef, you're a magician.
Wow! thank you hahaha
Thank you for showing Jack and Annie’s and a couple others because a lot of companies use Fava beans and I’m G6PD deficient and can’t have fava beans
You know, could you do some sauce videos? I mean, I know you just did, but it really makes the difference for my family. I just did a stirfry with peanut sauce, and even though they knew I made fake chicken, they really enjoyed it, esp as leftovers (which doesn't always happen with my seitan). Thank you for all your videos👍👍👍
I'm going to start trying to add more sauces and side recipes to every video!!
@@SauceStache Super cool; thanks! I'm realizing this is part of the magic👍👍👍😋
Great idea man, top job 🙏💚🧙♂️
Loved the video, very interesting. However, I kept thinking, did you eat the scraped-off breading or did you throw it away...?
Oh my goodness 😊 That is a lot of nugget peeling 😂 You guys are awesome 👏
Great video, but I need to see the RANKINGS! Okay, so Impossible won, but where did Beyond stack up? Lightlife? Would've loved to get a more detailed breakdown of how people perceived ALL the brands. Here in Canada we have access to some of these, but not all, so it would've been great to see how they all compared.
Its at the end of the video!!
Did you watch the video?
@@SauceStache the percent was a bit confusing. Rate from 1-5 would of been clearer.
I don’t comment here very often, but your videos are always so interesting to watch. Have you ever considered trying to tackle the world of food alternatives for people who are gluten free? Or lactose intolerant? It’d be cool to see your takes on different recipes since your vegan ones are so good. 🤔
Aren’t vegan foods automaticity lactose free because they are free of milk derivatives??
Seeing you add BBQ sauce to the mustard made me wonder, have you tried the Carolina gold BBQ sauce? It's mustard based which I've never seen anywhere else but it's wonderful
Wow amazing video honestly amazing. Keep it up
Thank you so much!
This was inasane. In a very good way, obviously. Thank you for your hard work, Mark. ;-)
Wow! It really does look like the real thing! Bravo
I love this so much!
Took a look at your other videos and saw it's all vegan meats! That makes me heart happy and my stomach (eventually) full! Can't wait to learn from you
I use the Gardein teriyaki strips without the sauce. I steam the strips with potatoes and broccoli florets. I season the strips with salt, pepper, and vegan mayo. Tastes like a simple deconstructed chicken salad.
Gotta try marinating that mushroom chicken in the chickun broth seasoning
love this concept
you should do it with ice cream!
Honey cultivation doesn't harm bees, I don't get the fuss over honey. (beekeeping has other environmental concerns, but that's a whole other topic)
Agave isn't very sustainable. I wish folks would just use honey, or something like date syrup (my personal preference) I don't know how much more sustainable it is so maybe try something else.
At first i was scared cause i thought you didnt disclose there was vegan chicken also….. this is very clever and a very fair competition bravo
Such an awesome idea!
