  • Join us as we take the plunge into the old days for us and show newcomers the easiest way to take their ready to run cars and get into doors at their local track!
    We spent a total of $150 in week 7 adding a set of Yokomo SBBS Big Bore dampers with all the fixings! The ride quality, stability and overall feel between these dampers and stock is more than noticeable. Out on the wide line and making snap transitions while riding max angle is my favorite benefit from this upgrade! The lineup of Mods harmonize well and really leaves us with one last needed feature... TIME FOR A NEW POWER PLANT!
    Drop us a comment below if you're excited to install some high end schtuff with us next week!!
    Stay tuned for more to come from Project Get DOORS.

    Gens Ace Redline 130C 4000mAh or Reve D 2s LiPo Battery 100C 3700mAh... If you could only have one pack or the other which would you rock?
    PS: I can't get enough of your content! Thank you for showing your build, it's been a lot of fun following, I look forward to mirroring your mods on my rig whenever it arrives!

      I’d take the redline all day. $20 cheaper, 5 grams lighter, 30 more C rating and 300 more Mah rating. It’s a no brainer over the reve-D.

    A trick we do on Tekno 8th scale cars is cut the spring collar oring in half and just use half of it. Perfect middle ground between easy to adjust and confidence in consistency of your settings. They all but don’t turn when you use the whole oring on Teknos so it’s necessary with them.

    • @ScaleScience
      @ScaleScience  Před rokem +2

      Great tip! I worried about the collars moving without the oring installed after coming from a heavier off road background myself. Drifting seems to be such a low impact type of driving that I have yet to see any of my damper collars move even under the harshest drifting conditions. Might have to try the middle ground with a half oring

    So my kit came with gold springs for the rear. I think I will grab a reve d spring pack to play with a bit. I see others have mentioned that being a ton of spring load. Wish I had paid closer attention to the piston details and I'm also curious still about the different o rings and pink vs grey diaphragms on these shocks. Next time I rebuild maybe

    • @ScaleScience
      @ScaleScience  Před 2 lety

      The Orings are just more hard or more slippery. Colors change from manufacturers etc but essentially the are al doing the same thing.
      Diaphragm or bladder changes will alter the rebound characteristics of the damper to have more or less.

    • @odomandr
      @odomandr Před 2 lety

      @@ScaleScience sounds good. Is the grey more rebound than the pink? Is there another diaphragm? I always replace o rings when rebuilding due to swelling and such but if they are all about the same I won't worry as much

    • @RealJawnes
      @RealJawnes Před 2 lety +1

      I’m not too sure about the esc but I run the motor, and it’s on the quieter side compared to a absolute1 and the dx1, but it is very smooth

    • @ScaleScience
      @ScaleScience  Před 2 lety +2

      Smooth and buttery! The Hobbywing is pretty smooth too honestly however with our 4pm radio, we can control and tune the XX esc from our radio and not have to pull off for a program card. It makes tuning easier IMO but without the radio, stick with a Hobbywing setup for ease.

    That seems like an insane amount of preload front and rear. Why not switch to R-tune springs; soft in front, med in rear

    • @ScaleScience

    One thing, from a newb, that would be helpful is WHY are you doing the mods? I think it is clear that the radio was a big issue with the low sampling rate. What was the deficit with the gyro, setup, etc.? :) REALLY enjoying the series, I am building a drift track in our 14x24 shed and my RMX 2.0 S15 will be delivered today cheers!

      So it’s hard to explain without the feel side of things present. The driving videos in each segment are kind of the showcase of the best of its abilities and if you notice how the car is driving with other vehicles and it’s line specifically it’s in essence the why to the what. Definetly will try to explain the mods better in the future thank you!

    ever tried putting just 1-2 drop of oil in the dampener instead of flling them full? saw a guy do that in a vid and hed been rc drifting for 30 years alongside some pros.

    • @ScaleScience
      @ScaleScience  Před rokem

      I have and while I have felt it could be beneficial, generally dampers requiring no oil are usually just in a state of poor performance and in switching them out for a higher grade of damper, I’ve gotten the suspension action I desired and could use the oil to its full potential.

    • @ScaleScience
      @ScaleScience  Před rokem

      @@MrKillerHobbes Afro is a legend and definetly knows what he is doing. Keep in mind the dampers will have essentially no dampening and if they do, that would indicate their is stiction within the stroke (up and down of the piston) usually associated with the Orings, guides or the plunger. Once those things are sorted, you’ll need oil or you’ll pogo stick bounce away haha

    What shortcomings are these shocks going to fix on this car? Im coming from the oval and offroad racing scene. I have run some on road touring cars too. Just trying to get some perspective on what big bores could enhance on a drift car over the stock ones. Just trying to learn. Looking forward to getting into this. I may get a kit though. I LOVE building the cars almost more than driving them lol

    • @ScaleScience
      @ScaleScience  Před rokem +1

      Mostly down for adjustability as the Yokomo dampers have every factory part available including shafts, guides, bladders, low friction Orings and they are silicon based rather then mineral based so tuning options for fluid viscosity is limitless.
