- Today we cover the man with the snacks that is Takuto Maruki from Persona 5 Royal. Following the events of the Kamoshida incident, Shujin needed a way to save the school’s reputation so they brought in the good doctor with the juicebox. With that here are my reasons why Dr. Maruki is Snacks Material.

I just came back here to pay respects for Billy Kametz, Dr. Maruki's English VA. RIP Doc, we will miss you.
I also knew him from Monkey Kid. Real bummed out that he passed.
Shoot man, I didn't know Kametz voiced Maruki. I mainly knew him as the voice for that one Jojo with the crappy hair
Throughout the game of Persona 5.
All bosses had selfish desires, willing to kill and rob people for their own selfish gain, failing meant you'd be killed and lose your reason to rebel, both through letting time run out or accepting the bad endings.
Maruki had desires to give everyone their desires and dreams, logical ones and impossible ones, failing meant you'd gain your desires without actually earning them, thus the bad ending counters all your journey throughout Persona 5 and inner strength and rebellion.

Maruki was a great character. He really made you think and his ideals juxtaposed against your own made you realize that different paths are not evil by default.
Not really. He did make me think but not in a fun way. More like the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Which isn't an old concept in SMT games. Hell Nocturne explores the premise Maruki goes for somewhat with the Reason of Musubi - a reason that would have devolved into Maruki's "Happiness for everyone" plan.
I still think he was pretty twisted... He was evil, just not on an egotistical manner like Shido or Yaldabaoth, but still, evil nonetheless
The way I saw it, he was willing to "kill" Sumire or replace her essence with Kasumi's, to ease Sumkre's pain, and that didn't work at all because that's nlt how any of that works
He was likeable and you coul empathize with him easily, but no one crowns himself king of a new reality without crushing countless others
I would have like the game to dwell more on thi gs like people being written out of existence because their parents didn't love them, familkes being disintegrated because the "hapiness" of a thkrd person depended on that,, criminals getting out of jail because their parents believe their kids to be innocent,
Maruki's plan would have f*cked a lot of lives along the way, or it would have collapsed on itself with all the contradicting wishes and desires people hold on their hearts

I understand why, it depends of people and experience of each one. For exemple, if I was as Joker, I'd probably choose his reality, because things happened in my life that i'd give everything to change it. It's exactly why it's depends of each one.

Maruki is simply one of the best Persona characters to ever be created. He makes me want more persona 5 spin offs just so there’s a chance that he’ll appear more. I absolutely love Maruki.

Honestly I'm hoping one day he does come back so he can join the Phantom thieves as one himself because everything we know about him I think he'd make a perfect addition to the team.

@@TyTeaStrings you do have a point but it could still mean something else. What Atlas did back for persona 4 they might not do for persona 5 that plus the fact I just don't think of fighting game fits with persona 5's thief aesthetic.

Maruki's storyline was already tragic, but having the context of knowing what happened to Billy Kametz makes it worse in a way.
RIP Billy Kametz.
Obviously it’s all acting in the game and could be coincidence, but the irl events really paints his performance in the final gameplay section in a completely different light. It’s so painful in that context and I absolutely hate it.

Does the form of happiness matter when you genuinely think it’s satisfying in the end. Imo probably not. Of course covering something up with lies will bother some part of your subconscious which is what P4 is about anyways. And in Maruki’s the happiness will probably be short term, unless Maruki also includes overcoming obstacles in his reality for you. So unless it’s the latter, I think I’d live in his reality as well if I didn’t know and it doesn’t get boring quick.
Literally every scene you showed of him resulted in me putting a hand in my heart and saying how much I love him.
One of the best antagonists I’ve ever seen in a video game. His motivation, backstory and execution of his plans are written really well.
I disagree, He is the most creepy. The whole offering of snacks was creepy AF. I was expecting him to pull up to a school in a van trying to get kids in his van. Why does his music during these therapy sessions sound like porn music? He isn't a good antagonist he is just a straight up predator.

During my playthrough of royal, when he ask the group of they wanted snacks to go for counseling, I wished they had given me an option to say ' you had me at snacks' for a response to his counseling offer

Even though he's the antagonist honestly I wish he would join the Phantom thieves. Cuz we all know those traumatized beans need another father figure don't get me wrong I think Zenkichi as a father figure is good but having markie as one especially a father figure who can help you talk you through your problems would be even better and he has snacks. I also see him as a viable candidate to be a phantom thief because of everything we already know about him. I'm really hoping one day he comes back and joins the team.

I’m not sure if he was given the title of “villain” but he’s one of my favorite characters regardless, and for some reason, I sympathize with him and what he believed to be an ideal reality, but sadly, it isn’t like that, but that doesn’t stop me from trying to get though each and every day, especially with most of the bs that’s going on

Maruki is very interesting.
Would i accept his reality? No, because it would actually create its OWN set of problems. Like, he'd be able to bring people/pets back from the dead, causing overpopulation problems. That, and it's not right for someone to have that kind of power over your life.
He is a god, he could solve overpopulation simply by spawning more food or something. That and not all the dead are revived (makoto's mom was still dead lmao) so he probably selects who gets revived and stuff like that

The only bad thing with Maruki's reality was the situation when he passes away from aging; what happens to the world then?

The entire point of that ending is to show that it’s just a beautiful lie. Sumire’s development is undone and she reverts back to “Kasumi”, Akechi’s fake personality becomes his real one.

Scramble and Royal have so many similarities and complete differences, Sophia and Kasumi being parallels in some ways, while Maruki and Ichinose are like opposites in a way, of course I don't want to spoil things, but Scramble just gave me Royal 2.0 vibes, doesn't help that there's a false awakening and also another thing becoming godlike and controlling everyone, but its also just as subtle as Maruki's method, maybe moreso due to the phones acting as a soft spot to one's sense of security
Honestly I'm hoping we get another spin-off or sequel cuz I want to see more of those characters that plus the fact I want Maruki and Zenkichi to meet and interact.

@@adrianarballo179 There was hope, emphasis on was, because Persona 4 Golden is canon and the enhanced game was kept as the canon timeline in the other spin-offs, but it seems Atlus didn't plan very well for Persona 5's timeline, while its cool to think about the possibilities, Atlus is just wanting to do things for money now.

Now the question is; which voice is better suited for Takuto Maruki? EN or JP or both? I mean Royal gives you the option to change your language voiceover for ✨𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓮✨ instead of making it be a purchasable DLC in vanilla (I think). All opinions, all respect. Personally, I’m thinking both voice actors did an incredible job voicing Maruki and his sorrows.

Damn bro, i really missed out on joker finally throwing down hands with no persona?
When I played royal I had already played the original persona and I went in with high expectations of Sumi and low expectations for maruki and at first I loved both of them but then sumi just kept disappearing for long amounts of time and the reappearing and wasn’t even useable until the last palace so I ended up not liking her at all and she started becoming annoying whilst maruki was always fun and because he had a mostly normal confidant I had more fun with him and was more entertained with his character and his interactions with the other phantom thieves and during his palace I loved him even more since he was such a satisfying final palace and boss and everything that happens with his perfectly builds up to his palace and his final boss fight
Just a theory. The reason Rumi forgot who Maruki is because Rumi most have forced the image of Maruki’s face on her parent’s killer due to the trauma.

While i didn’t like Yoshizawa much, Maruki and the revamped Akechi really sold Royal as the definitive version of Persona 5 (along with the quality of life and gameplay changes ofc). Maruki is the perfect way to end Persona 5, i just feel bad for the people who skipped his confidant and missed out on the third semester.
When i was playing the ending of royal the first time i really imagine the fist fight with Maruki with the ost of MGS4 in the final fist fight, thanks to make it real.

TL;DR Maruki is a great character but a terrible person in my eyes. He limits everybody to either conform to his society or be forced to change to fit it.
I struggle to find Maruki even REMOTELY correct. On the surface level, everything is fine, but when you remember things like that one hardass teacher suddenly becoming like "a second Buddha" as Ryuji puts it, it made me wonder. Did HE wanna change? I doubt it, and as such, is the original personality lost in his head, unsure of what thoughts lead to what decisions, living like he's dreaming with the illusion of control? Or is he a prisoner in his own head, forced to watch his body be puppeted around by another personality? Or, the kindest of the possibilities I thought of, that the original personality has been overwritten completely, the original person is effectively dead, and all that's left is Maruki's meat puppet.
As a villain, he is fantastic and it's good that he is so charismatic so as to convince the characters and many players that he may actually be right. I was uncertain what to decide, but as I went through the Palace, I realized the fallacies latent throughout his philosophy and the true selfish intentions behind it.
The Palace makes it pretty clear that he's distracting himself from his own past shortcomings with his delusions of grandeur as a hero, all so he can hide from his failure to protect Rumi or her parents. He's a coward who can't face himself, and in response anybody who doesn't conform to his world view is made to learn it by force.
Eh, but what do you care? He speaks gently and has a nice smile.
No, he has a kind heart, but a wounded soul. He just a misguided lad who wants the best for everyone, but doesn't know how to cope with his own pain.

A non-canon ending that you practically have to TRY to get, and I have to practically ignore that it exists, or I'll develop a seething hatred for him as a character. What kind of a monster would doom someone to sleep until they die? Forever cut off from his friends, his family, everything he knew and loved. And not just ANY someone, but JOKER, the kid that pulled himself back up after having his life destroyed, saved Tokyo and possibly the world from endless apathy and no free will by fighting a GOD, and Maruki dooms hi. To a slow death, wasting away in bed, his body to be forever isolated and never found (not that anyone would look for him because he's been forgotten too...) Lost in an endless void with only spiders to witness his death. I freaking HATE the sleep ending and wish it had never been added.
