My very own portable observatory

- I finally have my own observatory! This one might not have all the fancy bells and whistles of the one at battle point, but it easily packs along with the rest of my Astro kit when I want to image out in remote locations. I purchased the 6x10x6-ft model.

Being able to leave the telescopes set up and polar aligned is such a time saver and allows one to take advantage of those times when the sky may be clear for a few hours and still be able to observe! Great video of an interesting product.
nice job
Nice for a light block, but a good breeze and its going sailing.
It has a full set of ropes and stakes. I just didn’t use them in this demonstration because I didn’t have the space. I think it would do fine in winds up to 45 mph if not more.
That is a good design. PS: Your cats are cute.
Nice design. I suggest anchoring everything to the ground as well.
Nice
Nice idea, specially the portability of it. Now how is that LX50 coming along? I am about to start deforking mine and set it up with an EQ6R Pro and I am very excited for what I’ll be able to see with it.
Would love to see a follow up video about the LX.
It’s been dormant for quite a while! Specifically because I haven’t gotten around to AF for it. Just curious, do you have a solution for autofocus? I was just looking through it visually the other night and it was great.
Just so you know, it’s owned by the observatory so I’m not spending my own money on upgrading it. That’s another reason why it’s been hanging out instead of imaging.
very cool.
Thanks cem!
I don't see the link posted in the description. Would love to get in contact with the builder!
Thanks Cole!
I’m waiting for him to get back to me on how he wants to be tagged in the video, but his name on CN is CCD-Freak. You can send him a DM on there and he will get back to you.
All his info has been added to the video description!
@ColeRees John (CCD-Freak) is a great guy and I bought one of his Skyboxes a few weeks ago. It will get its first workout at the Okie-Tex Star Party in September.
Nice! You’re going to absolutely love it. And I totally agree, John is the best! The Astro community is blessed to have someone like him
like the portable so you can demonstrate remote operation of telescope
How safe is it in higher winds? I would like to set something like this up on my roof, but I'm worried about it blowing away.
Realistically you shouldn’t set something like this up on your roof because vibrations in the house will translate up through to the roof and reduce your image quality. And safety, wind, etc. I would recommend a pier and dome if you want something on your roof.
@@ColeRees are there any specific ones you recommend or no
@@samk2407 ash domes are really nice but also $$$. That’s the only one I would recommend putting on a roof.
@@ColeRees oh jeez yeah really expensive 😭😭
