    I'm 42 years old. I had 2 kids, one at 24 and one at 32. My husband and I tried for 5 1/2 years to conceive another child, with no success. Even considered IVF but it's too expensive. We decided to stop trying and accept that it just wouldn't happen. 6 months after we "actively stopped trying", I got pregnant. I didn't know until I was 19 weeks along because medication I was taking covered up all my pregnancy symptoms. I'm proud to report my son is 7 months old and very healthy 😊

    The video didn't mention the most important thing of all:
    A kid wont make your relationship better. If you're currently not happy in your relationship, dont even think about having a child. A child needs a stable and caring home. That means enough income, a healthy relationship of the parents and understanding the difficulties that a child brings.
    Screw the age question, this is endlessly more important. Enough single parents as it is

      Meme Queen I have to disagree with you for certain situations. Sometimes people break up for good reasons that their kids shouldn't experience. My parents had me when they were 18 but they broke up before I was born. My dad didn't want to be in my life, but my mom really wanted me to have a dad. So eventually he did decided to be in my life but he's treated me like crap the entire time. He's as emotionally abusive to me as he was to my mom. We would have been better off if she had chosen to be a single parent.

      If the decision to have children is looked upon broadly enough with a rational lens, humanity might just go extinct lol. Given 50% of all pregnancies in the US are unintended, even if we assume 50% of those pregnancies don't go to full-term (pretty agressive), it still means that *1/3rd* of all births in the US are unintended, if we get rid of all of those (through more rational thought on having kids), the US is gonna start looking like Japan demographics wise real soon...

      Monsecko Depression is the absence/low dopamine levels (and other factors of course) and genetics can alter these levels. Although the tests are in their early stages it is being shown that if a parent or sibling has depression then their offspring or sibling is 3-4 times more likely to have it as well. So technically the research is showing that it’s possible that depression is genetic. The research is in its early stages but the evidence is there with supporting the thought that there is a genetic association with depression in some people

      Rome totally Agree, unfortunatelly most young people in the age 20-29 dont see it that way and saying that they should "enjoy the life more" (note: getting wasted etc).. which in my opinion is not the real meaning of life. Im 21, married (i married this year) with nice career and much more ahead and most important thing happened to me 4 days ago when my daughter was born. The feeling and the responsibility i felt was incredible.

    • @TheAIKnowledgeHub
      @TheAIKnowledgeHub Před 6 lety +21

      Rome I don't agree. You're basically calling anyone who is super poor at 25 years old retarded. You know how stupid that sounds?
      You're basically saying the person should figure out the work place, get started with maybe a $20k-$50k job, and on top of that figure out how to be a parent at the same time. Keep in mind, many are just getting out of college by 25-28. Some even later.
      The fact is, there is plenty of people that are having kids in their mid to late 30's and giving a higher quality of life to the kid. To the outside it might seem abnormal, but most parents on the outside don't care about their kids all that much. Most parents use their kids as tools or free labor 99% of the time. And while waiting doesn't give a 100% that things will be more stable. The far majority isn't going to be stable during the age group you listed.
      Now if someone did somehow become one of the very few that grown up in a stable life and transfer that, or started their career at a very young age. Then I can see where your argument on the optimal age being 25-29. But the majority isn't going to have that life. It's just a simple fact.
      And sadly, by my logic the majority wouldn't have kids because the majority will never become stable. But it's 10 fold when you have kids. Keep in mind, you can move around and do some stuff with your career you simply can't do while you have kids. Even more so if you're single. So this alone automatically increases your chances of having a stable life by a huge amount.
      I think the cut off is around 45-50 years old. Some even down in the lower 40's. Depending on how well someone takes care of themselves, someone looks ahead, and so on. This might push the age one way or another. But I think after that point the quality of life for the kid quickly goes down hill towards the later years of the kids life. In fact, most women can't have kids anyways at such a age.
      @Andrej Hornak
      You're 21. What does the fish in the river know about the ocean? You're way too young to be making such a call on saying it's stupid to have kids after 29. Give it about 10 years and travel around your country (I'm assuming you're in the USA), and then you can come back with your new experience. You might be OK, but the far far far majority aren't.
      I agree most in this age group is trying to "enjoy" life by getting high or drunk. Most are more worried about today than several years in the future. Most make bad choices, have no real goals in life, and doesn't care about their responsibilities. Most never had to be responsible for themselves let alone someone else, so it makes sense.
      I have a saying that I made. "One doesn't reflect the many, and many doesn't reflect the one." So as you move on, don't compare yourself to others and note how everyone has their own story.

    • @jane5777
      @jane5777 Před 6 lety +2

      I'm a childfree person, but I have to push back on what you just said. That's a tautological statement. You can't consent to existence because you don't exist. But you can't do anything when you don't exist.
      Also, people do have a right to do things without the consent of other people. What they don't have a right to do is violate a person's boundaries (consent is a means of communicating and affirming personal boundaries), which basically boils down to not threatening the safety of the person. When a person violates the boundaries of another person (an existing person, to get back to the tautology form early, as existing as a person is a prerequisite condition for any of this to make sense) they are doing one of two things - they are doing things which actively reduce the person's safety or they are creating a conditional threat to reduce the person's safety (if you do X, then I will do Y).
      You can argue about what is a real or perceived reduction of safety and get into some weeds there, but I think if you frame it this way, it's at least useful. But yeah, you have to exist as a born person who has reached the level of communicating their wishes to others in SOME way before consent is possible.
      I agree that for humans procreating is necessarily selfish though, and I think it's helpful to argue that, as the narrative around parenting is super distorted and claims not having children is "selfish" without an ounce of thought behind what the hell that even is supposed to mean. So that part was cool, imho.

    • @jane5777
      @jane5777 Před 6 lety +1

      That doesn't make sense. Pain helps us navigate the world successfully, it's how we learn to keep our organism out of danger as best we can. We don't like pain because that's the whole point of pain. It motivates us to avoid things that hurt or kill us. That is not related to morality.

    • @jane5777
      @jane5777 Před 6 lety

      It's the same mechanism. So is fear, danger, threat. Look into the neurology of it.
      Those are just circumstances where you might be in more pain/fear. But...that's really normal to our organism. And again, the only reason you feel that way is your organism wants you to try to solve something. Solving problems and pattern matching mitigates that danger/threat system that leads to pain.
      So, if you're trying to make a moral argument (it doesn't make sense though) you can argue back on yourself and say you would be depriving "them" of the experience of joy that is basically little more than relief/present safety from pain/fear/danger. Our brain rewards us for achieving safety (also met via having good pattern matching/recognition skills and working on those skills) because that is again a mechanism that helped us survive.
      It's an amoral feature of our organism.

      To make an argument,
      i believe living in a world without any conflict would be very boring, and make me depressed. Just imagin every film, book and stories in general without any conflict for the protagonist, going through life without anything bad happening to them. Would you like this story?
      I also think that only having upsides would make your life very unstable (talking about your "character development"), because when you finally stumble on a rock, your whole life would be ruined.

    Great. I’m still fairly young, and my fiancé is quite a bit older. So our children will have the best of both worlds.They will have my youthful energy, as well as his wisdom, security, and stability that comes with age.Some more gems of advice: don’t put off having kids or never having children at all because you think you can’t “afford it “. Keep in mind that our great grandparents raised large families with next to nothing, and no luxuries of any kind. Just provide the basics of life like food, and plenty of love. You don’t need to provide braces, cars, and a college fund for every child. Give them siblings instead, and they will have built in best friends for life (hopefully).

    Here's my answer to this question. Just make sure you have your shit together. Make sure you have everything mental taken care of, you have a stable job, and you have the money to take care of a child. I really recommend getting married to you partner and being married for a couple of years before you have children with them because no kid wants divorced parents or not even knowing one of their parents. Make sure you truly love your partner.
